Book Synopsis Design, Generation and Tooth Contact Analysis (TCA) of Asymmetric Face Gear Drive With Modified Geometry by :
Download or read book Design, Generation and Tooth Contact Analysis (TCA) of Asymmetric Face Gear Drive With Modified Geometry written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new type of face gear drive for application in transmissions, particularly in helicopters, has been developed. The new geometty differs from the existing geometry by application of asymmetric profiles and double-crowned pinion of the face gear mesh. The paper describes the computerized design, simulation of meshing and contact, and stress analysis by finite element method. Special purpose computer codes have been developed to conduct the analysis. The analysis of this new type of face gear is illustrated with a numerical example.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper is a review of some of the research work of the NASA Lewis Research Center Mechanical Components Branch. It includes a brief review of the NASA Lewis Research Center and the Mechanical Components Branch. The research topics discussed are crack propagation of gear teeth, gear noise of spiral bevel and other gears, design optimization methods, methods we have investigated for transmission diagnostics, the analytical and experimental study of gear thermal conditions, the analytical and experimental study of split torque systems, the evaluation of several new advanced gear steels and transmission lubricants and the evaluation of various aircraft transmissions. The area of research needs for gearing and transmissions is also discussed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some 90 papers cover gears, gearboxes, and geared systems; mechanisms, couplings, and linkages; mechanical transmissions including continuous variable transmission, belt drives, chain drives, and other transmissions; tribology, mechanical systems such as robots, hydraulic systems, and machinery; virtual reality; Internet-based technology; system integration; artificial intelligence; and advanced computer- aided design, manufacturing, engineering. Each has been reviewed by at least three peers. Among the topics are the terminology and classification of facial toothed joints and gearings, a web-based agile system for designing rolling bearings, the control of vibration characteristics of a metal pushing belt-planetary gear continuously variable transmission, optimizing pumping units performances with fiberglass sucker rod strings, and research on architecture for autonomous interface agents. Book Synopsis Evaluation of Carburized and Ground Face Gears by :
Download or read book Evaluation of Carburized and Ground Face Gears written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental durability tests were performed on carburized and ground AISI 9310 steel face gears. The tests were in support of a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Technology Reinvestment Program (TRP) to enhance face-gear technology. The tests were conducted in the NASA Glenn spiral-bevel-gear/face-gear test facility. Tests were run at 2300 rpm face gear speed and at loads of 64, 76, 88, 100, and 112-percent of the design torque of 377 N-m (3340 in-lb). The carburized and ground face gears demonstrated the required durability when run for ten-million cycles at each of the applied loads. Proper installation was critical for the successful operation of the spur pinions and face gears. A large amount of backlash produced tooth contact patterns that approached the inner-diameter edge of the face-gear tooth. Low backlash produced tooth contact patterns that approached the outer-diameter edge of the face-gear tooth. Measured backlashes in the range of 0.178 to 0.254 mm (0.007 to 0.010 in) produced acceptable tooth contact patterns.
