Book Synopsis Computational Physics by : Konstantinos N. Anagnostopoulos
Download or read book Computational Physics written by Konstantinos N. Anagnostopoulos and published by Konstantinos Anagnostopoulos. This book was released on 2014-07-27 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to the computational methods used in physics and other scientific fields. It is addressed to an audience that has already been exposed to the introductory level of college physics, usually taught during the first two years of an undergraduate program in science and engineering. The book starts with very simple problems in particle motion and ends with an in-depth discussion of advanced techniques used in Monte Carlo simulations in statistical mechanics. The level of instruction rises slowly, while discussing problems like the diffusion equation, electrostatics on the plane, quantum mechanics and random walks. The book aims to provide the students with the background and the experience needed in order to advance to high performance computing projects in science and engineering. But it also tries to keep the students motivated by considering interesting applications in physics, like chaos, quantum mechanics, special relativity and the physics of phase transitions. The book and the accompanying software is available for free in electronic form at http://goo.gl/SGUEkM (www.physics.ntua.gr/%7Ekonstant/ComputationalPhysics) and a printed copy can be purchased from lulu.com at http://goo.gl/Pg1zHc (vol I) and http://goo.gl/XsSBdP (vol II)
Book Synopsis Photography, Electro-Ophthalmology and Echo-Ophthalmology in Ophthalmic Practice by : Harold E. Henkes
Download or read book Photography, Electro-Ophthalmology and Echo-Ophthalmology in Ophthalmic Practice written by Harold E. Henkes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1973 - postgraduate courses in ophthalmology held under the auspices of the Netherlands Ophthalmological Society, mark the 25th anniversary of the rebuilt Rotterdam Eye Clinic. The themes set for these courses: 'Ophthalmic Photography', 'Electro ophthalmology' and 'Echo-ophthalmology', have been chosen from a multitude of rapid developments in ophthalmology during this period. The aim was to provide the clinician with a lead in a bewildering field of apparatus and techniques and to help him in selecting methods that provide useful results without too much specialised knowledge. However, sophisticated techniques and discussion of results have been added now and then, so that the more advanced reader still finds sufficiently inter esting material in this report. This holds e.g. for the section on fluorescence-angiography which section has been extended on the base of the probability that the clinician in general practice too, has been or will be confronted with this rapidly expanding and fascinating field. The reason to bring together two methods of objective examination of visual functions i.e. electro-ophthalmology and echo-ophthalmology, is clearly due to the intimate connection between the two. In many ways these methods complement each other in providing the final diagnosis. This report does not intend to replace text books, nor to outdate treatises on superspecialised ophthalmic subjects; it simply tends to provide the clinician with a basic information on selected techniques, stimulating the reader to start using them in daily practice.

Book Synopsis Urban and Regional Planning Education by : Ashok Kumar
Download or read book Urban and Regional Planning Education written by Ashok Kumar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-27 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first volume exclusively dedicated to planning education, with a focus on India and learning from global experiences for India. Prior to the 1990s, planning education in India was largely confined to national and local economic concerns. Within a globalized scenario, such pedagogies and theories have become outmoded. With new concerns emerging in planning, new pedagogical tools and theorizations need to be developed within planning curricula to provide today’s planners with the wherewithal to adapt to changing and globalizing cities and regions in India. Therefore, the eminent contributors to this volume deal exclusively and comprehensively with planning education in a globalized context. Divided into four thematic sections, this volume provides a comprehensive view of planning education in India, with focus on: • The trajectory of planning education in India.• The kinds of knowledge used for teaching in Indian planning schools, and whether some sort of integration of diverse knowledges is achieved. • The ethical foundations of urban and regional planning in Indian planning schools. • The role of international planning perspectives in providing new insights for Indian planning education. Comprehensive and topical, this volume is of interest to academics and researchers from planning institutes, urban and regional planners and policy makers, as well as architects, social geographers and economists.
