Book Synopsis Public Policy Analysis by : Wil A. H. Thissen
Download or read book Public Policy Analysis written by Wil A. H. Thissen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-05 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditional policy analysis approaches are characterized by a focus on system modeling and choosing among policy alternatives. While successful in many cases, this approach has been increasingly criticized for being technocratic and ignoring the behavioral and political dimensions of most policy processes. In recent decades, increased awareness of the multi-actor, multiple perspective, and poly-centric character of many policy processes has led to the development of a variety of different perspectives on the styles and roles of policy analysis, and to new analytical tools and approaches – for example, argumentative approaches, participative policy analysis, and negotiation support. As a result, the field has become multi-faceted and somewhat fragmented. Public Policy Analysis: New Developments acknowledges the variety of approaches and provides a synthesis of the traditional and new approaches to policy analysis. It provides an overview and typology of different types of policy analytic activities, characterizing them according to differences in character and leading values, and linking them to a variety of theoretical notions on policymaking. Thereby, it provides assistance to both end users and analysts in choosing an appropriate approach given a specific policy situation. By broadening the traditional approach and methods to include the analysis of actors and actor networks related to the policy issue at hand, it deepens the state of the art in certain areas. While the main focus of the book is on the cognitive dimensions of policy analysis, it also links the policy analysis process to the policymaking process, showing how to identify and involve all relevant stakeholders in the process, and how to create favorable conditions for use of the results of policy analytic efforts by the policy actors. The book has as its major objective to describe the state-of-the-art and the latest developments in ex-ante policy analysis. It is divided into two parts. Part I explores and structures policy analysis developments, the development and description of approaches to diagnose policy situations, design policy analytic efforts, and policy process conditions. Part II focuses on recent developments regarding models and modeling for policy analysis, placing modeling approaches in the context of the variety of conditions and approaches elaborated in Part I.

Book excerpt: For mainstream Political Science, ‘popular culture’ is still no longer considered worthy of serious investigation. Similarly, the concept of the use of films as a pedagogical device has remained on the margins. This paper identifies four wonderful ways of using movies as a teaching tool: the first approach uses movie to portray historical events along with the Cold War, and the second makes use of movie to debate unique problems in worldwide politics which includes terrorism or genocide.
Download or read book Using Story written by Jennifer A. Moon and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-06-28 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Story is everywhere in human lives and cultures and it features strongly in the processes of teaching and learning. Story can be called narrative, case study, critical incident, life history, anecdote, scenario, illustration or example, creative writing, storytelling; it is a unit of communication, it is in the products of the media industries, in therapy and in our daily acts of reflecting. Stories are 'told' in many ways - they are spoken, written, filmed, mimed or acted, presented as cartoons and in new media formats and through all these, they are associated with both teaching and learning processes but in different ways and at different levels. As a result of growing interest and simultaneous confusion about story, it is timely to untangle the various meanings of story so that we can draw out and extend its value and use. Using Story aims to clarify what we mean by story, to seek out where story occurs in education and life and to explore the processes by which we learn from story. In this way the book intends to ‘bring story into the open’ and improve its use. Building on her wealth of experience in the field, Jenny Moon explores the theory of story and demonstrates both its current uses and new ways in which to enrich and enliven teaching, learning and research processes. Ideal for anyone involved in education, personal or professional development or with a more general interest in story, the book begins by considering the range of what is meant by story, and then considers the theory behind the meanings. In the large final part of the book, Jenny provides a rich patchwork of different uses of story in education that cut across forms of story, story activities, disciplines and applications all of which will aid the use of story.
Book Synopsis The Palgrave Handbook of Cross-Cultural Business Negotiation by : Mohammad Ayub Khan
Download or read book The Palgrave Handbook of Cross-Cultural Business Negotiation written by Mohammad Ayub Khan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-13 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global business management issues and concerns are complex, diverse, changing, and often intractable. Industry actors and policy makers alike rely upon partnerships and alliances for developing and growing sustainable business organizations and ventures. As a result, global business leaders must be well-versed in managing and leading multidimensional human relationships and business networks – requiring skill and expertise in conducting the negotiation processes that these entail. After laying out a foundation justifying the importance of studying negotiation in a global context, this book will detail conventional and contemporary theories regarding international engagement, culture, cultural difference, and cross-cultural interaction, with particular focus on their influence on negotiation. Building on these elements, the book will provide a broad array of country-specific chapters, each describing and analyzing the negotiation culture of businesspeople in a different country around the world. Finally, the book will look ahead, with an eye towards identifying and anticipating new trends and developments in the field of global negotiation. This text will appeal to scholars and researchers in international business, cross-cultural studies, and conflict management who seek to understand the challenges of intercultural communication and negotiation. It will provide trainers and consultants with the insights they need to prepare their clients for intercultural negotiation. Finally, the text will appeal to businesspeople who find themselves heading out to engage with counterparts in another country, or operating in other multinational environments on a regular basis.

Download or read book Teamwork written by Gordon Jones and published by Inter-Varsity Press. This book was released on 2011-07-11 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can I improve the quality of my relationships? Be a better communicator? Resolve conflict more effectively? Use both my skills and my unique individuality for the benefit of those around me? The healthy marriage, the smooth-running office, the caring church, the harmonious mission team, the committed friendship group...good teamwork is a vital ingredient of so many of the interactive situations of daily life. And it's a concept central to the Christian message. In Christ, God was reconciling us to him and to each other. So it's hardly surprising that biblical principles have so much relevance to the challenge of creative teambuilding. Reading this book will stimulate you to think about why teams are so important, how you can build an effective team and ways of learning to communicate better. This book doesn't confine itself to conventional ideas of teams, but takes a much broader look at teamwork and working together. Readers will find the contents applicable to many areas of life including marriage and family life, friendships, school, university, the workplace, and the local church. It would also be particularly relevant to people involved with overseas mission teams.
