First, to show that the Midland Railway is the natural and proper outlet of that huge volume of travel which the Baltimore & Ohio and the Pennsylvania Railroads pour into Washington City. Second, to demonstrate (as the schedules appended to this volume prove) that it is the Short Line, par excellence, of travel traffic from North to South, and vice versa. Third, to establish beyond dispute, that no other route to the great watering places of Virginia and the sublime scenery of Western North Carolina can compete with the Virginia Midland Railway.
