Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experts provide a unique and broad perspective of the theoretical tools available today to analyze protein structure and function. Topics at the frontier of computational biophysics, such as dynamics and thermodynamics of proteins, reaction path studies, optimization techniques, analytical theories of protein folding, sequence alignment algorithms and electrostatics of proteins are discussed in a pedagogical and complete way. Those entering the field will find the book to be a useful introduction. It will also serve as a complementary text to existing ones that focus on just one of the above subjects.
Book Synopsis Wavelets in Chemistry by : Beata Walczak
Download or read book Wavelets in Chemistry written by Beata Walczak and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-05-10 with total page 571 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wavelets seem to be the most efficient tool in signal denoising and compression. They can be used in an unlimited number of applications in all fields of chemistry where the instrumental signals are the source of information about the studied chemical systems or phenomena, and in all cases where these signals have to be archived. The quality of the instrumental signals determines the quality of answer to the basic analytical questions: how many components are in the studied systems, what are these components like and what are their concentrations? Efficient compression of the signal sets can drastically speed up further processing such as data visualization, modelling (calibration and pattern recognition) and library search. Exploration of the possible applications of wavelets in analytical chemistry has just started and this book will significantly speed up the process. The first part, concentrating on theoretical aspects, is written in a tutorial-like manner, with simple numerical examples. For the reader's convenience, all basic terms are explained in detail and all unique properties of wavelets are pinpointed and compared with the other types of basis function. The second part presents applications of wavelets from many branches of chemistry which will stimulate chemists to further exploration of this exciting subject.
Book Synopsis Advances in Chemical Physics, Volume 159 by : Paul Brumer
Download or read book Advances in Chemical Physics, Volume 159 written by Paul Brumer and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-04-18 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of Advances in Chemical Physics is dedicated, by the contributors, to Moshe Shapiro, formerly Canada Research Chair in Quantum Control in the Department of Chemistry at the University of British Columbia and Jacques Mimran Professor of Chemical Physics at the Weizmann Institute, who passed away on December 3, 2013. It focuses primarily on the interaction of light with molecules, one of Moshe's longstanding scientific loves. However, the wide range of topics covered in this volume constitutes but a small part of Moshe's vast range of scientific interests, which are well documented in over 300 research publications and two books.
Book Synopsis Physics and Chemistry of Finite Systems: From Clusters to Crystals by : Peru Jena
Download or read book Physics and Chemistry of Finite Systems: From Clusters to Crystals written by Peru Jena and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 1414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent innovations in experimental techniques such as molecular and cluster beam epitaxy, supersonic jet expansion, matrix isolation and chemical synthesis are increasingly enabling researchers to produce materials by design and with atomic dimension. These materials constrained by sire, shape, and symmetry range from clusters containing as few as two atoms to nanoscale materials consisting of thousands of atoms. They possess unique structuraI, electronic, magnetic and optical properties that depend strongly on their size and geometry. The availability of these materials raises many fundamental questions as weIl as technological possibilities. From the academic viewpoint, the most pertinent question concerns the evolution of the atomic and electronic structure of the system as it grows from micro clusters to crystals. At what stage, for example, does the cluster look as if it is a fragment of the corresponding crystal. How do electrons forming bonds in micro-clusters transform to bands in solids? How do the size dependent properties change from discrete quantum conditions, as in clusters, to boundary constrained bulk conditions, as in nanoscale materials, to bulk conditions insensitive to boundaries? How do the criteria of classification have to be changed as one goes from one size domain to another? Potential for high technological applications also seem to be endless. Clusters of otherwise non-magnetic materials exhibit magnetic behavior when constrained by size, shape, and dimension. NanoscaIe metal particles exhibit non-linear opticaI properties and increased mechanical strength. SimiIarly, materials made from nanoscale ceramic particIes possess plastic behavior.
Book Synopsis Microscale Energy Transfer by : Chan L. Tien
Download or read book Microscale Energy Transfer written by Chan L. Tien and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1997-11-01 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text explores the field of microscale heat transfer in mechanical engineering. Experts from a wide range of science and engineering disciplines present topics that are built from simple macroscopic concepts and gradually lead into microscopic concepts. The book begins with an introductory chapter which discusses the history and the future directions of microscale heat transfer. It is then divided into two sections: the Fundamentals and the Applications.

Book Synopsis Mode Selective Chemistry by : Joshua Jortner
Download or read book Mode Selective Chemistry written by Joshua Jortner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Twenty Fourth Jerusalem Symposium reflected the high standards of these distinguished scientific meetings, which convene once a year at the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Jerusalem to discuss a specific topic in the broad area of quantum chemistry and biochemistry. The topic at this year's Jerusalem Symposium was mode selective chemistry, which constitutes a truly interdisciplinary subject of central interest in the areas of chemical physics, photochemistry and photobiology. The main theme of the Symposium was built around the exploration of the possibility and conditions for non-statistical reaction dynamics in molecules, van der Waals molecules, clusters and condensed phases. The main issues addressed photoselective and coherent excitation modes, bottlenecks for intramolecular vibrational energy redistribution, the consequences of the internal structure of many-atom systems and of rotational vibrational level structure for intramolecular dynamics, bond selective photodissociation, ultrafast chemical clocks for energy disposal, coherent control of photochemical reactions and nonstatistical unimolecular reaction dynamics. The interdisciplinary nature of this research area was deliberated by intensive and extensive interactions between theory and experiment. This volume provides a record of the invited lectures at the Symposium.
