The goal of this report is to provide potential users and purchasers of the PEM? system with information they need to make more informed decisions regarding the performance of PEM? as an equivalent or alternative to incineration for treating hazardous waste.
Book Synopsis Evaluation of Weigh-in-motion Systems by : Benjamin H. Cottrell
Download or read book Evaluation of Weigh-in-motion Systems written by Benjamin H. Cottrell and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this research was to evaluate low cost weigh-in-motion systems. The three systems evaluated were (1) a capacitance weigh mat system, (2) a bridge weighing system, and (3) a piezoelectric cable sensor system. All three systems have a two-lane capability. An evaluation was made of (1) the quality of the data, (2) the performance of the equipment, (3) the applications of the equipment and its ease ofuse, and (4) the format of the data and its usefulness. Although objective data were used when possible, the majority of the evaluation is subjective. The quality of the data from each of the three systems is about the same. The piezoelectric cable system provides slightly lower quality data than the other two systems. The equipment of the capacitance weigh mat performed well; that of the bridge system was adequate; and there was concern about the durability of the piezoelectric cable system. Because of the tradeoffs between the capacitance weigh mat system and the bridge system, it is difficult to rank them. The piezoelectric cable system's sensors are permanently installed; therefore, it is not as portable as the other two systems. With regard to the format of the data and its usefulness (which are dependent mostly on the software and not the sensors), the capacitance weigh mat system is flexible and provides individual truck records in two formats, the bridge system provides the most comprehensive tables, and the piezoelectric cable system is limited and depends on other software to generate additional tables. Suggestions are made about how to use the systems and how to improve their performance.

Book excerpt: A comprehensive, state-of-the-art guide to pavement design and materials With innovations ranging from the advent of SuperpaveTM, the data generated by the Long Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) project, to the recent release of the Mechanistic-Empirical pavement design guide developed under NCHRP Study 1-37A, the field of pavement engineering is experiencing significant development. Pavement Design and Materials is a practical reference for both students and practicing engineers that explores all the aspects of pavement engineering, including materials, analysis, design, evaluation, and economic analysis. Historically, numerous techniques have been applied by a multitude of jurisdictions dealing with roadway pavements. This book focuses on the best-established, currently applicable techniques available. Pavement Design and Materials offers complete coverage of: The characterization of traffic input The characterization of pavement bases/subgrades and aggregates Asphalt binder and asphalt concrete characterization Portland cement and concrete characterization Analysis of flexible and rigid pavements Pavement evaluation Environmental effects on pavements The design of flexible and rigid pavements Pavement rehabilitation Economic analysis of alternative pavement designs The coverage is accompanied by suggestions for software for implementing various analytical techniques described in these chapters. These tools are easily accessible through the book’s companion Web site, which is constantly updated to ensure that the reader finds the most up-to-date software available.

This book was released on 2009-03-21 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical sensors are in high demand for applications as varied as water pollution detection, medical diagnostics, and battlefield air analysis. Designing the next generation of sensors requires an interdisciplinary approach. The book provides a critical analysis of new opportunities in sensor materials research that have been opened up with the use of combinatorial and high-throughput technologies, with emphasis on experimental techniques. For a view of component selection with a more computational perspective, readers may refer to the complementary volume of Integrated Analytical Systems edited by M. Ryan et al., entitled “Computational Methods for Sensor Material Selection”.
Book Synopsis Transport in Nonstoichiometric Compounds by : George Simkovich
Download or read book Transport in Nonstoichiometric Compounds written by George Simkovich and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prior to the 9th International Conference on Reactivity Solids in Krakow, Poland a group of about 25 international scientists held a special conference entitled "Transport in Nonstoichiometric Compounds" in late Aug. 1980 in Mogilany, Poland (near Krakow). This conference was well received in view of the interaction between the participants, as well as the resulting publication of the proceedings (Elsevier Scientific Publishing Company, 1982, edited by J. Nowotny). At this first conference the participants decided that it would be desirable to organize similar conferences at about two year intervals. Thus, a second meeting was held in late June, early July at Alenya, Pyrenees Orientales, France. This conference had a larger number of participants, about 50, but still managed to promote excellent interaction between all the participants. These proceedings, with editors G. Petot-Ervas, Hj. Matzke and C. Monty, have also been published by Elsevier as a special edition of the journal, Solid State lonics, Vol. 12 (1984). In view of the success of the initial two conferences, a third meeting was organized and held at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA., 16802, U.S.A. from 11 June 84 to 15 June 84. The proceedings of this conference are presented in the following text.

Book Synopsis Industrial High Pressure Applications by : Rudolf Eggers
Download or read book Industrial High Pressure Applications written by Rudolf Eggers and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-07-11 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Industrial high pressure processes open the door to many reactions that are not possible under 'normal' conditions. These are to be found in such different areas as polymerization, catalytic reactions, separations, oil and gas recovery, food processing, biocatalysis and more. The most famous high pressure process is the so-called Haber-Bosch process used for fertilizers and which was awarded a Nobel prize. Following an introduction on historical development, the current state, and future trends, this timely and comprehensive publication goes on to describe different industrial processes, including methanol and other catalytic syntheses, polymerization and renewable energy processes, before covering safety and equipment issues. With its excellent choice of industrial contributions, this handbook offers high quality information not found elsewhere, making it invaluable reading for a broad and interdisciplinary audience.
Book Synopsis High-Speed Digital System Design by : Anatoly Belous
Download or read book High-Speed Digital System Design written by Anatoly Belous and published by Springer. This book was released on 2020-11-29 with total page 933 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes for readers the entire, interconnected complex of theoretical and practical aspects of designing and organizing the production of various electronic devices, the general and main distinguishing feature of which is the high speed of processing and transmitting of digital signals. The authors discuss all the main stages of design - from the upper system level of the hierarchy (telecommunications system, 5G mobile communications) to the lower level of basic semiconductor elements, printed circuit boards. Since the developers of these devices in practice deal with distorted digital signals that are transmitted against a background of interference, the authors not only explain the physical nature of such effects, but also offer specific solutions as to how to avoid such parasitic effects, even at the design stage of high-speed devices.
