Book excerpt: Analysis of Manufacturing Enterprises presents a unified and systematic treatment of manufacturing enterprises. These enterprises are networks of companies working in partnership. Such networks are a common occurrence in auto, grocery, apparel, computer and other industries; and competition is among enterprises rather than between individual companies. Thus, for these enterprises (global or local) to succeed, there is a need for systematically designing the enterprise-wide value delivery processes such as the order-to-delivery process, supply chain process, and new product development process. This calls for developing systematic analysis methodologies for evaluating the performance of value delivering processes. Analysis of Manufacturing Enterprises fills this vital need. The first part of the book focuses on foundations of manufacturing enterprises: the generic value delivery process, their performance measures and redesign to meet specifications on lead time and defect levels. The second part provides a clear and comprehensive discussion on new product development, order to delivery, and supply chain processes, which are core processes of a manufacturing enterprise. Analysis of Manufacturing Enterprises is an excellent resource for researchers and professionals in the field of manufacturing engineering.

To successfully outsource today, you need to gain a core competency in outsourcing, avoid setbacks, and understand how to keep the outsourcing relationship robust. Most organizations do not have outsourcing as a core competency, and this is why so many outsourcing relationships fail. Altogether, the four authors of this book have nearly 100 years of solid experience in logistics and manufacturing outsourcing. They have seen outsourcing from all angles'either as providers, consultants, clients, attorneys or expert witnesses'and it is not always a pretty picture. This expertise makes the authors uniquely qualified to teach companies how to harness the real power behind outsourcing.

Book excerpt: The COVID-19 pandemic has provided a unique opportunity to examine our understanding of the opportunities and challenges that ICTs offer to support the functioning of all aspects of education. The closure of educational institutions has forced a radical change in the practices of teachers and societies regarding the use of ICT to support teaching, learning, social relations and work in many sectors. In the training of digital skills, the instrumental mastery of ICT continues to outweigh the preparation of citizens to make constructive and safe use of technologies. After two decades of educational policies, we continue to reduce digital literacy to instrumental skills. That is, you do not learn why to use educational technologies and how, or to be critical of their use. Education 4.0 seeks to develop and enhance the digital skills of students and teachers in digital teaching environments, through the creation of a line of academic training programs for undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education. This article collection welcomes contributions to improve training policies and practices in Educational Digital Transformation for educational development (strategies, activities, proposals for assessment and certification of skills).
