Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Culled from the pages of CRC's highly successful, best-selling The Circuits and Filters Handbook, Second Edition, Circuit Analysis and Feedback Amplifier Theory presents a sharply focused, comprehensive review of the fundamental theory behind professional applications of circuits and feedback amplifiers. It supplies a concise, convenient reference to the key concepts, models, and equations necessary to analyze, design, and predict the behavior of large-scale circuits and feedback amplifiers, illustrated by frequent examples. Edited by a distinguished authority, this book emphasizes the theoretical concepts underlying the processes, behavior, and operation of these devices. It includes guidance on the design of multiple-loop feedback amplifiers. More than 350 figures and tables illustrate the concepts, and where necessary, the theories, principles, and mathematics of some subjects are reviewed. Expert contributors discuss analysis in the time and frequency domains, symbolic analysis, state-variable techniques, feedback amplifier configurations, general feedback theory, and network functions and feedback, among many other topics. Circuit Analysis and Feedback Amplifier Theory builds a strong theoretical foundation for the design and analysis of advanced circuits and feedback amplifiers while serving as a handy reference for experienced engineers, making it a must-have for both beginners and seasoned experts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was performed to determine which of two basic feedback-amplifier design procedures, the Bode method or the root-locus technique, would result in the better amplifier in terms of the amplifier's gain, bandwidth and desensitivity. Five amplifiers were considered, two using the Bode procedure and three using the root-locus techniques. Each represented a prominent variation within the Bode or root-locus method. The modifications were performed to give a ''best-versus-best'' comparison of the design methods. To obtain an equitable comparison the same requirements of over-all gain and bandwidth were applied in each design, and the same transistors and transistor model were used for all calculations. In each case the amplifier was designed and constructed, and its performance was evaluated. The results of the experimental work show that the best amplifiers designed using the root-locus technique give a better performance than the best amplifier designed by the Bode method. Qualitatively as well as quantitatively, the root locus produced the better amplifier because of the versatility of the design procedure with respect to the various types of requirements it can accommodate. Book excerpt: Improving the performance of the power amplifier is the most pressing problem facing designers of modern radio-frequency (RF) transceivers. Linearity and power efficiency of the transmit path are of utmost importance, and the power amplifier has proven to be the bottleneck for both. High linearity enables transmission at the highest data rates for a given channel bandwidth, and power efficiency prolongs battery lifetime in portable units and reduces heat dissipation in high-power transmitters. Cartesian feedback is a power amplifier linearization technique that acts to soften the tradeoff between power efficiency and linearity in power amplifiers. Despite its compelling, fundamental advantages, the technique has not enjoyed widespread acceptance because of certain implementation difficulties. Feedback Linearization of RF Power Amplifiers introduces new techniques for overcoming the challenges faced by the designer of a Cartesian feedback system. The theory of the new techniques are described and analyzed in detail. The book culminates with the results of the first known fully integrated Cartesian feedback power amplifier system, whose design was enabled by the techniques described. Feedback Linearization of RF Power Amplifiers is a valuable reference work for engineers in the telecommunications industry, industry researchers, academic researchers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Feedback circuits in general, and op. amp. applications which embody feedback principles in particular, playa central role in modern electronic engineering. This importance is reflected in the undergraduate curriculum where it is common practice for first-year undergraduates to be taught the principles of these subjects. It is right therefore that one of the tutorial guides in electronic engineering be devoted to feedback circuits and op. amps. Often general feedback circuit principles are taught before passing on to op. amps., and the order of the chapters reflects this. It is equally valid to teach op. amps. first. A feature of the guide is that it has been written to allow this approach to be followed, by deferring the study of Chapters 2, 4 and 5 until the end. A second feature of the guide is the treatment of loading effects in feedback circuits contained in Chapter 5. Loading effects are significant in many feedback circuits and yet they are not dealt with fully in many texts. Prerequisite knowledge for a successful use of the guide has been kept to a minimum. A knowledge of elementary circuit theory is assumed, and an under standing of basic transistor circuits would be useful for some of the feedback circuit examples.

Book excerpt: The operational amplifier ("op amp") is the most versatile and widely used type of analog IC, used in audio and voltage amplifiers, signal conditioners, signal converters, oscillators, and analog computing systems. Almost every electronic device uses at least one op amp. This book is Texas Instruments' complete professional-level tutorial and reference to operational amplifier theory and applications. Among the topics covered are basic op amp physics (including reviews of current and voltage division, Thevenin's theorem, and transistor models), idealized op amp operation and configuration, feedback theory and methods, single and dual supply operation, understanding op amp parameters, minimizing noise in op amp circuits, and practical applications such as instrumentation amplifiers, signal conditioning, oscillators, active filters, load and level conversions, and analog computing. There is also extensive coverage of circuit construction techniques, including circuit board design, grounding, input and output isolation, using decoupling capacitors, and frequency characteristics of passive components. The material in this book is applicable to all op amp ICs from all manufacturers, not just TI. Unlike textbook treatments of op amp theory that tend to focus on idealized op amp models and configuration, this title uses idealized models only when necessary to explain op amp theory. The bulk of this book is on real-world op amps and their applications; considerations such as thermal effects, circuit noise, circuit buffering, selection of appropriate op amps for a given application, and unexpected effects in passive components are all discussed in detail. *Published in conjunction with Texas Instruments *A single volume, professional-level guide to op amp theory and applications *Covers circuit board layout techniques for manufacturing op amp circuits.

Book excerpt: The object of this handbook is to assemble a set of design methods for crystal oscillators in the frequency range of 1 KC to 200 MC with the aim of facilitating design, eliminating crystal unit misapplications, and reducing design costs. The handbook is not directed at the design of ultra-stable crystal oscillators, but rather at the non-temperature controlled, medium frequency stability oscillator commonly in use in many types of communications equipment. The handbook contains discussions of: (1) The electrical characteristics of crystal units, condition of usage, and methods of measurement. (2) Characteristics of tube and transistor amplifiers. (3) Characteristics of impedance transforming networks. (4) Detailed design information on series resonance and anti-resonance oscillators. (5) Design examples together with experimental evaluation data covering most of the 1 KC to 200 MC range. (Author).
