Book Synopsis Recent Advances in Natural Language Processing III by : Nicolas Nicolov
Download or read book Recent Advances in Natural Language Processing III written by Nicolas Nicolov and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings together revised versions of a selection of papers presented at the 2003 International Conference on "Recent Advances in Natural Language Processing". A wide range of topics is covered in the volume: semantics, dialog, summarization, anaphora resolution, shallow parsing, morphology, part-of-speech tagging, named entity, question answering, word sense disambiguation, information extraction. Various 'state-of-the-art' techniques are explored: finite state processing, machine learning (support vector machines, maximum entropy, decision trees, memory-based learning, inductive logic programming, transformation-based learning, perceptions), latent semantic analysis, constraint programming. The papers address different languages (Arabic, English, German, Slavic languages) and use different linguistic frameworks (HPSG, LFG, constraint-based DCG). This book will be of interest to those who work in computational linguistics, corpus linguistics, human language technology, translation studies, cognitive science, psycholinguistics, artificial intelligence, and informatics.
Book Synopsis Multilingual Processing in Eastern and Southern EU Languages by : Cristina Vertan
Download or read book Multilingual Processing in Eastern and Southern EU Languages written by Cristina Vertan and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2012-04-25 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume draws attention to many specific challenges of multilingual processing within the European Union, especially after the recent successive enlargement. Most of the languages considered herein are not only ‘less resourced’ in terms of processing tools and training data, but also have features which are different from the well known international language pairs. The 16 contributions address specific problems and solutions for languages from south-eastern and central Europe in the context of multilingual communication, translation and information retrieval.
Book Synopsis A Machine Translation Approach to Cross Language Text Retrieval by : María Gabriela Fernandez-Diaz
Download or read book A Machine Translation Approach to Cross Language Text Retrieval written by María Gabriela Fernandez-Diaz and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2005-03 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cross Language Text Retrieval (CLTR) has been defined as the retrieval of documents in a language different from that of the original query. To make this possible some kind of mechanism has to be applied in order to translate the information contained in the source sentence. Many different approaches have been carried out with the purpose of transferring the information from the source language query to the target language one. Though all these methods deal with a way of translating as much information as possible from the source query, little research has been conducted in relation to the field of Machine Translation (MT). The purpose of this research work is to determine the feasibility of using MT techniques for CLTR. Specifically, I will describe how a MT system has been adapted without much effort to translate Spanish queries of a specific domain, i.e. Finance and Economics, into English in order to retrieve documents related to that field. The results of this process will then be compared with the results obtained from the retrieval of the original English queries. Thus, I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using MT for CLTR.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information infrastructures are integrated solutions based on the fusion of information and communication technologies. They are characterized by the large amount of data that must be managed accordingly. An information infrastructure requires an efficient and effective information retrieval system to provide access to the items stored in the infrastructure. Terminological Ontologies: Design, Management and Practical Applications presents the main problems that affect the discovery systems of information infrastructures to manage terminological models, and introduces a combination of research tools and applications in Semantic Web technologies. This book specifically analyzes the need to create, relate, and integrate the models required for an infrastructure by elaborating on the problem of accessing these models in an efficient manner via interoperable services and components. Terminological Ontologies: Design, Management and Practical Applications is geared toward information management systems and semantic web professionals working as project managers, application developers, government workers and more. Advanced undergraduate and graduate level students, professors and researchers focusing on computer science will also find this book valuable as a secondary text or reference book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Business information systems is a rapidly developing domain. There are many topicsthatdeserveattentionbuthavenotyetfoundaplaceincanonicalresearch. Workshops give researchers the possibility to share preliminary ideas, ?rst - perimental results, or to discuss research hypotheses. Discussions held during presentations strengthen the paper and prepare it for publication. From our - perience, workshops are a perfect instrument with which to create a community aroundvery speci?c researchtopics, thus o?ering the opportunity to promote it. Topics that do not ?nd critical feedback at the main International Conference on Business Information Systems (BIS) may experience fruitful discussion when confronted with a well-focused audience. Over the last few decades, business informationsystems have been one of the most important factors of the transition toward a knowledge-based economy. At the same time they have been subject to continuous rapid development and innovation driven both by industry and by academia. For the last 12 years these innovations were carefully observed but also shaped by researchers attending BIS yearly.

Book Synopsis Africa and France by : Dominic Thomas
Download or read book Africa and France written by Dominic Thomas and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2013-03-20 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An “excellent [and] incisive” look at identity, immigration, and culture in postcolonial France (Journal of West African History). This stimulating and insightful book reveals how increased control over immigration has changed cultural and social production in theater, literature, and even museum construction. Dominic Thomas’s analysis unravels the complex cultural and political realities of long-standing mobility between Africa and Europe. Thomas questions the attempt to place strict limits on what it means to be French or European and offers a sense of what must happen to bring about a renewed sense of integration and global Frenchness. “Essential reading for anyone investigating the debates surrounding contemporary French identity and the ever-changing relationship between France and her former colonial possessions.” —African Studies Bulletin
