Les avantages de la SI-FOP sont sa simplicité d'utilisation, sa connexion facile, l'installation à la portée de tous et sa longueur d'onde d'utilisation. Dans ce mémoire, nous déterminons un modèle mathématique réaliste de la SI-FOP dans un système à modulation d'intensité et détection directe (IM/DD) utilisant la modulation Discrete Multi Tone (DMT). Les caractéristiques du canal sont évaluées en déterminant la capacité théorique au sens de Shannon et la capacité pratique DMT avec les algorithmes d'allocation de bits (« rate adaptive bit loading ») comme le water-filling, les algorithmes de Chow et de Levin-Campello. Cette évolution permet d'offrir aux utilisateurs de nouveaux services, tel que la vidéo à la demande, la vidéo-conférence, la télévision à haute définition etc. Le problème de la confidentialité des donnés transférées par fibre optique à haut débit peut se poser, dans certains cas, pour l'acheminement d'information à caractère sensible ou à but commercial, parce que le canal optique peut être espionné sans que l'émetteur et/ou récepteur ne s'en aperçoivent. Les méthodes classiques de cryptographie ne sont pas toujours applicables en raison du grand volume de données à coder. Il faut trouver un moyen physique pour sécuriser le transfert de données à haut débit en affectant le moins possible l'équipement de ligne. Ce travail de thèse a porté sur la conception et la modélisation d'un système optique de brouillage de phase pour sécuriser la transmission de données à haut débit dans des liaisons point à point WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) sans affecter les équipements de ligne et la gestion des canaux. Pour ce faire, on a utilisé un système en espace libre de façonnage. On a particulièrement pris en compte la conception d'un système de brouillage ayant un impact réduit sur l'architecture des systèmes de transmission, notamment avec une grande tolérance par rapport à l'ensemble des effets de propagation dans une fibre. D'autre part, pour garantir la confidentialité des données, il est nécessaire de renouveler la clé de brouillage, parce qu'il est possible que l'intrus la récupère, par exemple, en utilisant la technique de l'échantillonnage linéaire optique. C'est-à-dire, qu'il faut partager la clé entre l'émetteur et le récepteur. C'est pourquoi, nous avons concentré, dans une deuxième partie, notre effort sur la modélisation numérique d'une méthode QKD (Quantum Key Distribution) qui pourrait être utilisée pour véhiculer la clé, sur une ligne de transmission commerciale. Ce modèle nous a permis par là même d'étudier l'impact (l'intrusion) sur la méthode QKD dans une liaison point à point WDM classique, sous l'influence des effets de propagation standard dans une fibre et pour une certaine distance.

Le train de pulses optique nécessaire au système a été généré par modulation externe d’une source optique continue, avec une modulateur d’intensité. Les simulations ont été concluantes quant à la faisabilité du système étudié. Une étude théorique a permis de résoudre le problème lié aux interférences cohérentes dues à la nature de la source utilisée. Les performances du système de multiplexage expérimental ont été comparées pour deux sources optiques différentes. Le démultiplexage est réalisé avec un modulateur à électroabsorption (EAM). Des valeurs de TEB inférieures à 10-10 ont été obtenues experimentalement sur chaque canal extrait. Le système est adapté pour une combinaison avec la technique de multiplexage en longueur d’onde (WDM).
