This book was released on 2012-10-30 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “This book looks to cover the differences the new professional will encounter as he takes on his new position overseas”. The book not only covers the basic technical translations of the items likely to be encountered during your work, but also covers what I would call the “unspoken word” These are cultural differences, such as technical phrases, modern work concepts terminology, standard practices. The book takes the student through all stages of construction and explains in detail the principal phases that the student is expected to understand & know in the new Hi tech and fast changing environment. It will be a good reference book which will enable the student to rapidly adapt to their new environment by helping them understand the basic principles, working practices, descriptions etc which some countries will take for granted. A great aid for the aspiring foreign professional, I only wish it was available when I first came to Spain some 23 years ago! Peter Wilkey FCIOB CIOB Ambassador for Spain & Gibraltar …
Book Synopsis Image, Text, Stone by : Nikolaus Dietrich
Download or read book Image, Text, Stone written by Nikolaus Dietrich and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2022-07-18 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume explores the intermediality of image and text in Graeco-Roman sculpture. Through its choice of authors, disciplinary backgrounds are deliberately merged in order to bridge the traditional gap between archaeologists, epigraphists and philologists, who for a long time studied statues, material inscriptions and literary epigrams within the closely confined borders of their individual disciplines. Through its choice of objects, privileging works of which there are significant material remains, through its inclusion of all kinds of figural-cum-inscriptional designs, ranging from grand sculpture to reliefs and ‘decorative’ marble-objects, and through its methodological emphasis on ‘close viewing’ (and reading!) of individual objects, this volume focuses on the materiality of both sculpture and inscription. This perspective is enriched by two comparative chapters on inscribing Greek vases and Roman walls (graffiti). The intermediality of image and inscription is envisaged from various thematic angles, including the intricacies of combining image and epigram (both materially and in literary projection), the original production and reception of inscribed sculpture in its ‘long life’, the viewing and ‘reading’ of sculpture in a space of movement, the issue of (re-)naming statues, and the image and inscription in its social and gender-historical context.
Book Synopsis Construction and Building Research by : Carmen Llinares-Millán
Download or read book Construction and Building Research written by Carmen Llinares-Millán and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-01-31 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many areas of knowledge converge in the building industry and therefore research in this field necessarily involves an interdisciplinary approach. Effective research requires strong relation between a broad variety of scientific and technological domains and more conventional construction or craft processes, while also considering advanced management processes, where all the main actors permanently interact. This publication takes an interdisciplinary approach grouping various studies on the building industry chosen from among the works presented for the 2nd International Conference on Construction and Building Research. The papers examine aspects of materials and building systems; construction technology; energy and sustainability; construction management; heritage, refurbishment and conservation. The information contained within these pages may be of interest to researchers and practitioners in construction and building activities from the academic sphere, as well as public and private sectors.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: UNCHARTED / New Landscapes of Tourism has a two-fold objective: to explore new avenues of thought in design teaching, and to do so through research that deals with new architectural landscapes that are linked to tourism. Publishing the Undergraduate Final Projects from IE University’s Undergraduate Architecture program responds to the desire to highlight the importance of design strategies in the process of reformulating the tourist offering within the framework of an open debate about new models for development. The infrastructural nature of architectural design imbues the architect’s creative capacity with the healthy ambition of transforming the territory into new landscapes for touristic opportunities. These new landscapes have been categorized here as productive, urban, industrial, extreme and reversible. UNCHARTED includes additional contributions on architecture, tourism and teaching by José Miguel Iribas, Elia Zenghelis and Eleni Gigantes.
