Book Synopsis Institutions, Equilibria and Efficiency by : Christian Schultz
Download or read book Institutions, Equilibria and Efficiency written by Christian Schultz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-22 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Competition and efficiency is at the core of economic theory. This volume collects papers of leading scholars, which extend the conventional general equilibrium model in important ways: Efficiency and price regulation are studied when markets are incomplete and existence of equilibria in such settings is proven under very general preference assumptions. The model is extended to include geographical location choice, a commodity space incorporating manufacturing imprecision and preferences for club-membership, schools and firms. Inefficiencies arising from household externalities or group membership are evaluated. Core equivalence is shown for bargaining economies. The theory of risk aversion is extended and the relation between risk taking and wealth is experimentally investigated. Other topics include determinacy in OLG with cash-in-advance constraints, income distribution and democracy in OLG, learning in OLG and in games, optimal pricing of derivative securities, the impact of heterogeneity at the individual level for aggregate consumption, and adaptive contracting in view of uncertainty.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: General Equilibrium Theory: An Introduction presents the mathematical economic theory of price determination and resource allocation from elementary to advanced levels, suitable for advanced undergraduates and graduate students of economics. This Arrow–Debreu model (known for two of its most prominent founders, both Nobel Laureates) is the basis of modern price theory and of a wide range of applications. The new edition updates discussion throughout and expands the number and variety of exercises. It offers a revised and extended treatment of core convergence, including the case of non-convex preferences, and introduces the investigation of approximate equilibrium with U-shaped curves and non-convex preferences.

Book Synopsis Notes and Problems in Applied General Equilibrium Economics by : K.R. Pearson
Download or read book Notes and Problems in Applied General Equilibrium Economics written by K.R. Pearson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "General-equilibrium" refers to an analytical approach which looks at the economy as a complete system of inter-dependent components (industries, households, investors, governments, importers and exporters). "Applied" means that the primary interest is in systems that can be used to provide quantitative analysis of economic policy problems in particular countries. Reflecting the authors' belief in the models as vehicles for practical policy analysis, a considerable amount of material on data and solution techniques as well as on theoretical structures has been included. The sequence of chapters follows what is seen as the historical development of the subject. The book is directed at graduate students and professional economists who may have an interest in constructing or applying general equilibrium models. The exercises and readings in the book provide a comprehensive introduction to applied general equilibrium modeling. To enable the reader to acquire hands-on experience with computer implementations of the models which are described in the book, a companion set of diskettes is available.

Book Synopsis General Equilibrium, Growth, and Trade by : Jerry R. Green
Download or read book General Equilibrium, Growth, and Trade written by Jerry R. Green and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: General Equilibrium, Growth, and Trade: Essays in Honor of Lionel McKenzie provides information pertinent to the three main areas of Professor McKenzie's scientific research, namely, international trade, economic growth, and general equilibrium theory. This book highlights the main aspects of McKenzie's work. Organized into three parts encompassing 21 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the regularizing effects of aggregation over nonregular microrelations. This text then examines the theory of a multiperiod monopolist incurring nonseparable labor adjustment costs, which is developed when investment is irreversible. Other chapters consider the behavior of a price-maker in a competitive market as a preliminary step to a more complete analysis of pure competition. This book discusses as well the effects of uncertainty on optimal decisions, which constitutes an increasingly essential area of economic research. The final chapter deals with the general equilibrium macroeconomic model. This book is a valuable resource for economists and economic theorists.
Download or read book General Equilibrium written by Frank Hahn and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years certain leading figures in the world of economics have called the usefulness of general equilibrium theory into question. This superb new book brings together leading economic theorists with important contributions to the ongoing debate. General equilibrium theorists including Michio Morishima, Michael Magill and Martine Quinzii debate strengths, weaknesses and possible futures with leading thinkers such as Herb Gintis, Pierangelo Garegnani and Duncan Foley, who seek to explain the rejection of general equilibrium. Uniquely, none of the contributors portray general equilibrium theory as the perfect guide to market economies actual behaviour, but rather illustrate that there is insufficient acquaintance with existing alternatives and that general equilibrium theory is often used as an ideal 'benchmark'.
