Book Synopsis Advanced Modal Analysis by : Giuseppe Conciauro
Download or read book Advanced Modal Analysis written by Giuseppe Conciauro and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2000-02-03 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Single mode equivalent network representations have been a key tool for the industrial design and development of a large variety of microwave systems. The reduced dimensions and increased complexity of modern microwave equipment, however, makes the inclusion of the higher order mode interactions essential for the correct industrial design and optimization of all microwave hardware. In this context, the analytical techniques originally exploited to develop single mode networks have recently been extended to produce multi-mode algorithms that can form the basis of fast and accurate Computer Aided Design tools. Furthermore, alternative multi-modal techniques, involving resonant rather than guided modes, have recently been developed for the design of waveguide components of arbitrary shape. This book describes in detail a number of modern multi-modal techniques for the analysis and design of passive microwave components. The authors comprehensively cover modal analysis of waveguides and cavities; discuss several multi-mode procedures for the study of both basic and arbitrarily shaped waveguide junctions and, finally, describe specific applications such as inductively coupled filters, waveguide couplers, metal insert and dual-mode filters. The book will be of interest to professional engineers and researchers in the microwave engineering field as well as students engaged in research at an advanced level. Distinctive features of this book include: * detailed explanation of several multi-mode analysis techniques for the analysis of waveguide components based on both canonical and arbitrary waveguide profiles * measured versus simulated results for a number of specific application examples * accompanying software that allows the reader to input their own data thereby demonstrating how the techniques described can be effectively used to develop fast and accurate CAD tools.
Book Synopsis Nanotechnology: Principles and Practices by : Sulabha K. Kulkarni
Download or read book Nanotechnology: Principles and Practices written by Sulabha K. Kulkarni and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-03 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given the rapid advances in the field, this book offers an up-to-date introduction to nanomaterials and nanotechnology. Though condensed into a relatively small volume, it spans the whole range of multidisciplinary topics related to nanotechnology. Starting with the basic concepts of quantum mechanics and solid state physics, it presents both physical and chemical synthetic methods, as well as analytical techniques for studying nanostructures. The size-specific properties of nanomaterials, such as their thermal, mechanical, optical and magnetic characteristics, are discussed in detail. The book goes on to illustrate the various applications of nanomaterials in electronics, optoelectronics, cosmetics, energy, textiles and the medical field and discusses the environmental impact of these technologies. Many new areas, materials and effects are then introduced, including spintronics, soft lithography, metamaterials, the lotus effect, the Gecko effect and graphene. The book also explains the functional principles of essential techniques, such as scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning near field optical microscopy (SNOM), Raman spectroscopy and photoelectron microscopy. In closing, Chapter 14, ‘Practicals’, provides a helpful guide to setting up and conducting inexpensive nanotechnology experiments in teaching laboratories.

Download or read book Nanochemistry written by Geoffrey A Ozin and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2015-10-09 with total page 840 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International interest in nanoscience research has flourished in recent years, as it becomes an integral part in the development of future technologies. The diverse, interdisciplinary nature of nanoscience means effective communication between disciplines is pivotal in the successful utilization of the science. Nanochemistry: A Chemical Approach to Nanomaterials is the first textbook for teaching nanochemistry and adopts an interdisciplinary and comprehensive approach to the subject. It presents a basic chemical strategy for making nanomaterials and describes some of the principles of materials self-assembly over 'all' scales. It demonstrates how nanometre and micrometre scale building blocks (with a wide range of shapes, compositions and surface functionalities) can be coerced through chemistry to organize spontaneously into unprecedented structures, which can serve as tailored functional materials. Suggestions of new ways to tackle research problems and speculations on how to think about assembling the future of nanotechnology are given. Primarily designed for teaching, this book will appeal to graduate and advanced undergraduate students. It is well illustrated with graphical representations of the structure and form of nanomaterials and contains problem sets as well as other pedagogical features such as further reading, case studies and a comprehensive bibliography.

Book Synopsis The Art & Science of Learning Design by : Marcelo Maina
Download or read book The Art & Science of Learning Design written by Marcelo Maina and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-21 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in an era defined by a wealth of open and readily available information, and the accelerated evolution of social, mobile and creative technologies. The provision of knowledge, once a primary role of educators, is now devolved to an immense web of free and readily accessible sources. Consequently, educators need to redefine their role not just “from sage on the stage to guide on the side” but, as more and more voices insist, as “designers for learning”. The call for such a repositioning of educators is heard from leaders in the field of technology-enhanced learning (TEL) and resonates well with the growing culture of design-based research in Education. However, it is still struggling to find a foothold in educational practice. We contend that the root causes of this discrepancy are the lack of articulation of design practices and methods, along with a shortage of tools and representations to support such practices, a lack of a culture of teacher-as-designer among practitioners, and insufficient theoretical development. The Art and Science of Learning Design (ASLD) explores the frameworks, methods, and tools available for teachers, technologists and researchers interested in designing for learning Learning Design theories arising from findings of research are explored, drawing upon research and practitioner experiences. It then surveys current trends in the practices, methods, and methodologies of Learning Design. Highlighting the translation of theory into practice, this book showcases some of the latest tools that support the learning design process itself.
