Book Synopsis Entrepreneurial Theorizing by : Dean A. Shepherd
Download or read book Entrepreneurial Theorizing written by Dean A. Shepherd and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-09 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book investigates an entrepreneurial approach to building new theories. It provides a rich understanding of how specific tools facilitate aspects of the theorizing process and offers a clearer big picture of the process of building important new entrepreneurship theories. The authors show that anthropomorphizing has been a critically important tool for developing influential entrepreneurship theories. They reveal how scholars build on their rich and highly accessible understanding of humans (i.e., the self and others) to make guesses and sense of entrepreneurial anomalies, articulate theoretical mechanisms to build more robust entrepreneurship theories, and create plausible stories that facilitate sensegiving. Further, they offer a framework that guides entrepreneurship scholars in finding a balance to maximize their contributions and guides reviewers and editors in managing the revise-and-resubmit process to advance the entrepreneurship field. Finally, they present lean scholarship as an approach to developing a portfolio of high-quality, high-impact papers. Lean scholarship starts with an entrepreneurial mindset and involves creating a minimum viable paper, exploring its validity, adding a plausible paper to one’s portfolio, and managing the portfolio by periodically deciding whether to persevere, pivot, or terminate each paper. This seminal work will appeal to entrepreneurship researchers, both those new to the field as well as seasoned veterans, who want to learn more about the tools that can be used to generate new knowledge about new ventures and other entrepreneurship topics.

Book Synopsis Contextualizing Entrepreneurship Theory by : Ted Baker
Download or read book Contextualizing Entrepreneurship Theory written by Ted Baker and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-02-13 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the breadth and empirical diversity of entrepreneurship research have increased rapidly during the last decade, the quest to find a "one-size-fits-all" general theory of entrepreneurship has given way to a growing appreciation for the importance of contexts. This promises to improve both the practical relevance and the theoretical rigor of research in this field. Entrepreneurship means different things to different people at different times and in different places and both its causes and its consequences likewise vary. For example, for some people entrepreneurship can be a glorious path to emancipation, while for others it can represent the yoke tethering them to the burdens of overwork and drudgery. For some communities it can drive renaissance and vibrancy while for others it allows only bare survival. In this book, we assess and attempt to push forward contemporary conceptualizations of contexts that matter for entrepreneurship, pointing in particular to opportunities generating new insights by attending to contexts in novel or underexplored ways. This book shows that the ongoing contextualization of entrepreneurship research should not simply generate a proliferation of unique theories – one for every context – but can instead result in better theory construction, testing and understanding of boundary conditions, thereby leading us to richer and more profound understanding of entrepreneurship across its many forms. Contextualizing Entrepreneurship Theory will critically review the current debate and existing literature on contexts and entrepreneurship and use this to synthesize new theoretical and methodological frameworks that point to important directions for future research.

Book Synopsis Entrepreneurship As Practice by : Neil Aaron Thompson
Download or read book Entrepreneurship As Practice written by Neil Aaron Thompson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-08-19 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This innovative book takes seriously the ordinary activities of entrepreneurship and maps out new pathways for scholars to understand the nature, properties, and implications of studying practices for entrepreneurship studies. Entrepreneurship is neither an art nor a science, but a bundle of practices, as Peter Drucker once observed. Curiously however, academic research on entrepreneurship mostly abstracts away from practical activity. In contrast, Entrepreneurship As Practice takes ordinary activities of entrepreneurship seriously by mapping out new pathways for scholars to consider the everyday practices through which entrepreneurship occurs. Each chapter draws on contemporary theories of practice to illuminate the nature, properties, and implications of studying the practices of entrepreneurship. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of the journal Entrepreneurship & Regional Development.

Book Synopsis The Oxford Handbook of Entrepreneurship and Collaboration by : Jeffrey J. Reuer
Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Entrepreneurship and Collaboration written by Jeffrey J. Reuer and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-08-08 with total page 752 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizational collaboration has played an important role in the field of strategic management in recent decades, including influential works on joint ventures, networks, and social capital. Likewise, the field of entrepreneurship has long recognized the value of collaboration, since young ventures often don't have the latitude to own or control all of the resources they need. Rather, the conditions of uncertainty and resource scarcity inherent in entrepreneurship push these ventures to creatively access resources, often through partnerships and collaborations that vary in formality. Though the importance of collaboration to entrepreneurship might seem apparent, research on it is distributed across multiple contexts, theoretical perspectives, and units of analysis. The Oxford Handbook of Entrepreneurship and Collaboration is a comprehensive volume that addresses the most important topics related to collaboration and connects them to unique challenges and opportunities related to entrepreneurship. Bringing together leading scholars from both areas, the volume takes stock of the current literature and aims to advance this body of research by highlighting the role that collaboration plays in value creation, resource acquisition, and the development of entrepreneurial ventures.
Book Synopsis Heidegger and Entrepreneurship by : Håvard Åsvoll
Download or read book Heidegger and Entrepreneurship written by Håvard Åsvoll and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-26 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book proposes that entrepreneurial practice is often considered an "applicable" paradigm. An "applicable" paradigm - which focus too much on planned, analytical, calculable, tool-based and ready-to-hand modes of decision making action. Hence, the equally important "theory of Nothing" has not received the attention it deserves. With reference to Heidegger’s existence oriented philosophy, Heidegger and Entrepreneurship: A Phenomenological Approach indicates how nothing can be a condition for an entrepreneurial applicable paradigm. It is suggested that the "theory of Nothing" bears the possibility of further development and can re-create the entrepreneurial paradigm of applying and decision making. This may also indicate a structure for understanding the new possibilities in entrepreneurship practice, such as entrepreneurial education and research. The book will be of value to students, researchers, and academics with an interest in entrepreneurship, management, and innovation.

Revisiting classic works in anthropology from a new angle, this book provides an exciting introduction to diverse conceptual framings of economic agency. The author also examines a wide range of 21st century ethnographies from the Global South, alongside his own research from across Europe. Book Synopsis Organizing Entrepreneurial Judgment by : Nicolai J. Foss
Download or read book Organizing Entrepreneurial Judgment written by Nicolai J. Foss and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-03-01 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Entrepreneurship, long neglected by economists and management scholars, has made a dramatic comeback in the last two decades, not only among academic economists and management scholars, but also among policymakers, educators and practitioners. Likewise, the economic theory of the firm, building on Ronald Coase's (1937) seminal analysis, has become an increasingly important field in economics and management. Despite this resurgence, there is still little connection between the entrepreneurship literature and the literature on the firm, both in academia and in management practice. This book fills this gap by proposing and developing an entrepreneurial theory of the firm that focuses on the connections between entrepreneurship and management. Drawing on insights from Austrian economics, it describes entrepreneurship as judgmental decision made under uncertainty, showing how judgment is the driving force of the market economy and the key to understanding firm performance and organization.

Download or read book The Entrepreneur in Microeconomic Theory written by Humberto Barreto and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-04-03 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the history of economic thought, the entrepreneur a wide variety of roles. Once cast as a fundamental agent in production, distribution and growth theories, he has now surprisingly disappeared from economic theory. This volume accounts for this disappearance, exploring how and why such a fundamental explanatory variable disappeared from economic theory. Barreto provides a concise review and classification of the many entrepreneurial theories put forward throughout the history of economic thought. The author illustrates that the decline of the entrepreneur in economic theory coincides with the rise of "the firm" as an organizing principle and considers how the replacement of the human element with a mechanistic one has led to disenchantment with microeconomic theory. This fascinating book will interest economists from a range of disciplines including the history of economic thought, microeconomics and entrepreneurship.
