Book excerpt: Excerpt from English Army Lists and Commission Registers, 1661 1714, Vol. 3: 1689 1694 The present volume, which takes in the English, Scots, and Irish military establishments, covers the eventful period from 13 February 1689 to 23 April 1694 - a time of uninterrupted war with France and Of internal rebel lion, for the first two and a half years, in Scotland and Ireland. These five years of war with France did not redound to the glory of British arms on the Continent. The important fortresses of Mons and N amur were taken by the French - the former in 1691, and the latter in 1692.
