Book excerpt: Major Lewis Cayce will need to use every weapon in his arsenal to keep his stranded men alive on a deadly alternate Earth in this gripping new adventure set in the world of the New York Times bestselling Destroyermen series. It is 1847, and almost a full year after being shipwrecked on another, far stranger and more dangerous Earth on their way to fight Santa Anna in the Mexican-American War, Lewis Cayce and his small group of artillerymen, infantrymen, and dragoons have made friends in the Yucatán, helped build an army, and repulsed the first efforts of the blood-drenched Holy Dominion to wipe their new friends out. As an even more radical cult of Blood Priests arises and begins to pursue its own path to power, the Dominion can’t let its defeat stand. It must crush the heretics and expel them from the land it has claimed. Fortunately, Lewis Cayce is a professional. He understands defense can only result in a stalemate at best, and a stalemate with the more populous Dominion will only lead to defeat in the end. The lucky few will be enslaved. The rest will be sacrificed in the most horrific way imaginable. The only hope his new allies have is to win—and to do that, his little army must attack the most powerful and diabolical enemy on the planet in its own territory. Achieving victory will take all Lewis’s imagination, the courage and trust of his soldiers—and all the round shot and canister his tiny band of artillerymen can slam out.

Book Synopsis The History of the Royal Artillery (Crimean Period) by : Julian Robert John Jocelyn
Download or read book The History of the Royal Artillery (Crimean Period) written by Julian Robert John Jocelyn and published by Naval & Military Press. This book was released on 1911 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the doomed attempt to seize the Russian guns by the Light Brigade at Balaclava, to the Siege of Sebastopol itself, artillery played a major part in the Crimean War. This official history of the Royal Artillery Regiment in the conflict is therefore indispensible to a full picture of the war. Colonel Jocelyn's detailed account of operations opens with a description of the Regiment's organisation on the eve of the war, and discusses the changes brought about by the experience. Part II of the book deals with the military operations themseves, opening with the Battle of the Alma, the start of the protracted Siege of Sebastopol, the chaotic Battle of Balaclava and the bloody Battle of Inkerman. Although an official history, the author is unsparing in his criticism of errors when they occur. Each section of the book is accompanied by appendixes listing the forces, guns and officers present at each encounter. In addition there are 71 tables, 41 engravings, and ten maps."...Essential reading for a general view of the war as well as the details of the key part played by the artillery" Major Colin Robins

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The exploits of outstanding artillerymen This book begins with the activities and equipment of the gunners during the War of Austrian Succession and the Seven Years War as it was fought across the globe. Although campaigns and actions are considered generally the exploits of noteworthy individuals are also interestingly detailed. The defence of Gibraltar is particularly well considered. The end of the 18th century brought the rise of Revolutionary France and the dawn of the Napoleonic period. The guns and notable gunners of the Peninsular War, the War of 1812 and the Waterloo Campaign of 1815, are extensively described in these pages. Later in the 19th century the actions in Syria in 1840, wars against Kaffir tribes in South Africa, the Crimean War of 1856, the Opium Wars and conflicts with the Maoris of New Zealand are well covered. In its original edition, titled 'England's Artillerymen', this otherwise excellent book was laden with extraneous material which has been removed to create a new and well focused Leonaur edition to which illustrations have also been added. Leonaur editions are newly typeset and are not facsimiles; each title is available in softcover and hardback with dustjacket.
