Ceci est un problème de santé publique général, car dans certaines familles, peu d'importance est accordée à la nécessité d'une mise en place de bonnes habitudes en matière d'hygiène bucco-dentaire et d'alimentation. Les particularités liées à l'âge et les conséquences de la carie chez l'enfant ne sont pas négligeables. De plus, les atteintes sont réparties de façons inégales suivant un gradient socio-économique. La mise en place d'un projet de prévention à échelle locale fait l'objet de cette thèse. L'école est un lieu de vie propice à la création d'une situation pédagogique de sensibilisation bucco-dentaire qui rassemble tous les milieux culturels et sociaux. Les enfants de classe de CP, à un âge clé de la prévention, sont les destinataires d'un livret de prévention bucco-dentaire. Les 3 axes ; risque carieux, alimentation et hygiène bucco-dentaire, sont traités d'une façon ludique avec des illustrations réalisées pour le livret, tout en s'inscrivant dans le programme d'apprentissage de la lecture. La distribution de 1500 exemplaires dans les écoles publiques de l'agglomération nantaise, s'inscrit dans une volonté de diminuer la prévalence de la carie dentaire chez l'enfant, à échelle territoriale.

Toutes les populations sont touchées, mais les milieux les plus atteints sont ceux de faible niveau économique et social. Des barrières restent à franchir afin que les messages de prévention atteignent ces cibles et y soient efficaces. Il existe une nécessité de venir supplémenter les actions existantes. Pour y contribuer, nous nous proposons de lancer des interventions de prévention dans les écoles, menées par des étudiants en odontologie. Afin d'accompagner ces interventions, nous pensons utile de développer un kit pédagogique. Son but est de soutenir une continuité dans l'apprentissage, créer un lien entre l'école et la maison, permettre l'arrivée des informations jusqu'aux parents et fonction du retour de l'expérimentation, faciliter l'extension des interventions sur le territoire. Le kit doit être un outil de communication adapté à l'enfant et favorisant l'assimilation et la mémorisation des informations. Face à ces enjeux différents supports et outils sont envisagés et étudiés. La valeur de l'image dans son impact et son efficacité en communication, non seulement à l'enfant mais à la population globale, est mise en avant. Une réflexion est menée quant au contenu informatif et visuel du kit. Trois supports sont choisis et font actuellement l'objet d'un travail de recherche et de création avec des étudiantes de l'Ecole d'art lyonnaise Emile Cohl : un livret, des affiches et un dessin animé

Par ailleurs, les personnes ayant des difficultés d'accès aux soins sont des publics à privilégier pour les actions de prévention et de promotion en santé. Nous avons donc voulu participer à l'éducation bucco-dentaire des enfants déficients visuels de l'ERDV de Loos. Nous avons ainsi évalué la présentation, la compréhension et la lisibilité de l'information contenue dans un livret pédagogique traitant de la prévention buccodentaire. Une étude qualitative par entretiens individuels semi-directifs a été réalisée auprès des enfants scolarisés en primaire à l'ERDV de Loos. L'étude a été menée selon les recommandations de la HAS sur l'élaboration d'un document écrit d'information à l'intention des patients et des usagers du système de santé. Douze entretiens ont eu lieu. De manière générale, le livret pédagogique a reçu un bon accueil de la part des enfants. Néanmoins, ceux-ci souhaitent quelques améliorations de forme. Cette étude permet donc d'envisager une diffusion du livret pédagogique à un public plus large de personnes déficientes visuelles après certaines modifications. Nous avons aussi évoqué la possibilité de faire créer un livre audio à partir de ce livret, par les collégiens de l'ERDV de Loos. Ce projet permettrait de rendre les enfants déficients visuels acteurs de leur santé bucco-dentaire.

He reached the shore in a dinghy. For the next 15 days he trudged through inhospitable country in a futile attempt to return to Strauss airbase. What should have been a few days walk turned into his worst possible nightmare as he stumbled aimlessly through mosquito and crocodile infested swamps. "It was almost six days I'd been without sleep, apart from a short period of unconsciousness and those few moments before I fell out of that tree," he said. " I became demented by the cavalcade of mosquitoes and hallucinating badly". His experience was only to worsen - he waded halfway across a tidal river to be confronted by a large saltie. Darwin historian John Haslett help Stagg map the original route by retracing his steps, even managing to relocate an American Kittyhawk Stagg found crashed in the middle of nowhere.
