Book Synopsis José Emilio Pacheco and the Poets of the Shadows by : Ronald J. Friis
Download or read book José Emilio Pacheco and the Poets of the Shadows written by Ronald J. Friis and published by Bucknell University Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Jose Emilio Pacheco (1939- ) is Mexico's foremost living poet, and a major figure in contemporary Latin American poetry. Jose Emilio Pacheco and the Poets of the Shadows examines the dynamic of literary influence and the question of literary origins in Pacheco's first six books of poetry (1960s to mid-1980s). Ronald J. Friis appropriates Bloom's theory of poetic influence to investigate how Pacheco deploys literary allusions and intertextual references as a means of decentering the traditional centrality of the figure of the author. The poets of the shadows to which the title refers include Pacheco's precursors from prior generations of Mexican and Latin American literature, particularly Jorge Luis Borges, Alfonso Reyes, and Octavio Paz."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book Synopsis Voices, Visions, and a New Reality by : J. Ann Duncan
Download or read book Voices, Visions, and a New Reality written by J. Ann Duncan and published by University of Pittsburgh Pre. This book was released on 2010-11-23 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces to a larger audience the work of a group of Mexican writers whose work reflects the stimulus of the "boom" of the 1960s, especially in the experimental nueva novella.Duncan views the work of six writers in the context of more well known writers of the period (Ruflo, Fuentes, and Del Paso), and concludes with a chapter on other recent innovators in Mexican literature. Despite their diversity, these texts share many common features, and unlike social realism, the works are not openly political, but at the same time they question assumptions about reality itself-and the relation of fiction to truth.

This book was released on 2010-02-09 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Mexican Travel Writing by : Thea Pitman
Download or read book Mexican Travel Writing written by Thea Pitman and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2008 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a detailed study of salient examples of Mexican travel writing from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. While scholars have often explored the close relationship between European or North American travel writing and the discourse of imperialism, little has been written on how postcolonial subjects might relate to the genre. This study first traces the development of a travel-writing tradition based closely on European imperialist models in mid-nineteenth-century Mexico. It then goes on to analyse how the narrative techniques of postmodernism and the political agenda of postcolonialism might combine to help challenge the genre's imperialist tendencies in late twentieth-century works of travel writing, focusing in particular on works by writers Juan Villoro, Héctor Perea and Fernando Solana Olivares.
