Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2014-06-27 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Philosophers in the Technological Age by : Ulrich Richter Morales
Download or read book Philosophers in the Technological Age written by Ulrich Richter Morales and published by Océano. This book was released on 2023-04-26 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Greek philosophers built great discussions about reality, which are still current in our times and still inspire today's great thinkers. From mathematical teachings by Pythagoras, encompassing Plato's and Aristotle's ideas, these great discussions have been essential for our present intelectual development. Today, however, this role has been adopted by a new class of visionaries. Brought together by this new Platonic Academy based in Stanford University; devoted to proving and making use of the supremacy of numbers and mathematics in the digital world; intent on finding the new Holy Grail embodied in the perfect algorithm, present time's entrepreneurs of new technologies have radically transformed, for good or otherwise, the world as we know it. Ulrich Richter Morales delves deep into the legacy – sometimes clear, sometimes mystical and esoteric – of the Pythagoreans in their diverse historical incarnations. He particularly emphasizes their dominant role in these digital times, while he introduces a debate regarding the sort of machines we ought to develop. Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, among others, are declared heirs of the Mathematician from Samos and, always engrossed in polemic discussions, they are inseparable from our concept of how the world works. Getting to know them as persons and as thinkers is a way to better understand modern day life and our role as citizens, in the unstable, volatile grounds we tread on today.

Book Synopsis Memory in World Cinema by : Nancy J. Membrez
Download or read book Memory in World Cinema written by Nancy J. Membrez and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2019-08-30 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Film itself is an artifact of memory. A blend of all the other fine arts, film portrays and preserves human memory, someone's memory, faulty or not, dramatically or comically, in a documentary, feature film or short. Hollywood may dominate 80 percent of cinema production but it is not the only voice. World cinema is about those other voices. Drawn initially from presentations from a series of film conferences held at the University of Texas at San Antonio, this collection of essays covers multiple geographical, linguistic, and cultural areas worldwide, emphasizing the historical and cultural interpretation of films. Appendices list films focusing on memory and invite readers to explore the films and issues raised.
Download or read book Black Code written by Ronald J. Deibert and published by Signal. This book was released on 2013-05-14 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cyberspace is all around us. We depend on it for everything we do. We have reengineered our business, governance, and social relations around a planetary network unlike any before it. But there are dangers looming, and malign forces are threatening to transform this extraordinary domain. In Black Code, Ronald J. Deibert, a leading expert on digital technology, security, and human rights, lifts the lid on cyberspace and shows what’s at stake for Internet users and citizens. As cyberspace develops in unprecedented ways, powerful agents are scrambling for control. Predatory cyber criminal gangs such as Koobface have made social media their stalking ground. The discovery of Stuxnet, a computer worm reportedly developed by Israel and the United States and aimed at Iran’s nuclear facilities, showed that state cyberwar is now a very real possibility. Governments and corporations are in collusion and are setting the rules of the road behind closed doors. This is not the way it was supposed to be. The Internet’s original promise of a global commons of shared knowledge and communications is now under threat. Drawing on the first-hand experiences of one of the most important protagonists in the battle — the Citizen Lab and its global network of frontline researchers, who have spent more than a decade cracking cyber espionage rings and uncovering attacks on citizens and NGOs worldwide — Black Code takes readers on a fascinating journey into the battle for cyberspace. Thought-provoking, compelling, and sometimes frightening, it is a wakeup call to citizens who have come to take the Internet for granted. Cyberspace is ours, it is what we make of it, Deibert argues, and we need to act now before it slips through our grasp.

Book Synopsis National Archetypes and Labour Subordination by : Antonio Ojeda-Avilés
Download or read book National Archetypes and Labour Subordination written by Antonio Ojeda-Avilés and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2023-10-30 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the plethora of heroes of different significance (religious, artistic, political, etc.), national archetypes stand out because they represent the outstanding traits of their fellow citizens and at the same time serve as role models for them. How these archetypes are formed in some countries, and what their specific features are, constitutes the starting point for this study. The book then enters a second phase with the narration of their jobs as literary heroes, culminating in a reflection on the possible effects that the archetype may have on the behaviour of workers and employers in the respective country. After the analysis of the five main European countries, the book undertakes a comparative study of other non-European archetypes, where the profiles are quite different.
Download or read book Común written by Christian Laval and published by Editorial GEDISA. This book was released on 2015-05-15 with total page 625 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
