Writing this book has allowed me to open doors to discover more of who “I am.” I have had experiences, shifted ideas, sorted facts, discovered some of my beliefs and brought together some of my ideas about biology and spirituality. My hope is that others might find more self-understanding, more self-realization from sharing my story. We just might discover we are more alike than different. I was feeling so crazy, detached and miserable, with anxiety galore. About three years ago I was searching for a feel-better place. Among all the modalities I tried, I walked into a Center for Spiritual Living, thinking this might be an answer. At the time it was an unconscious choice, walking this spiritual path, but now it’s a conscious choice. I knew I didn’t like feeling this crazy, and that was a motivator for me, an inertia buster, as I call it. I have had shifts of consciousness, observed different viewpoints and I have totally changed my ideas of how things work. A transformation, my evolution in consciousness. Because of my personal and our collective consciousness, a spiritual path may not be what we think, because things aren’t always as they seem. It’s all in our views and our beliefs. The destination, unknown to me at the time, was to walk a spiritual path. My life journey consisted of experiences, that allowed me to reach my current understanding about life. I have realized that we are following our destiny all the time, creating life on the go. The best way is to become aware, we become empowered making it a better journey—a better life for me and for you. And the journey continues...

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More, Bits & Pieces of a Biologist's Journey is exactly that. It is small vignettes of important events that impacted my life and helped me discover the beyond. There is so much more. This book has allowed me to be able to express more of who "I am,” far more than when I began 78 years ago. Life has been most challenging at times but I have been able to move forward not always with grace and ease, but moving forward and learning from the rough patches. Learning more of who “I am” and merging my experiences with my science background gave me a greater understanding within myself. Life on this planet, in this galaxy, in this universe is unbelievable, magical, mysterious and stretches the imagination especially in light of how humanity has been programmed to believe currently and in the past. I have been challenged, felt the stress, the anxiety, the panic and discovered ways to improve those “feelings” shifting them to greater levels of peace. The uncomfortable, I call “inertia busters” as they propelled me to seek solutions. Who likes to feel bad? One of the doors I walked through was a Center for Spiritual Living, I had never considered I was on a spiritual path, it was most impactful. I was able to reevaluate and shift my consciousness into a more favorable place using spiritual tools. Tools like the importance of words, the power of beliefs, writing affirmations, the power of intention, meditation, mindfulness, breath work, the importance of sound in healing and the law of attraction. Things aren’t always as they seem, there is more, far more than we can see with our eyes. We need to be silent, learn to listen and “Be still and know that I am God.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This updated edition of the New York Times Notable Book recounts the long hunt for Einstein’s predicted gravitational waves—and celebrates their discovery. In February 2016, astronomers announced that they had verified the last remaining prediction of Einstein’s general theory of relativity—vibrations in space-time, called gravitational waves. Humanity can now tune in to a cosmic orchestra. We have heard the chirp of two black holes dancing toward a violent union. We will hear the cymbal crashes from exploding stars, the periodic drumbeats from swiftly rotating pulsars, and maybe even the echoes from the Big Bang itself. More than a decade earlier, Marcia Bartusiak chronicled the gamble taken by astronomers who were determined to prove Einstein right. In their quest to detect gravitational waves, they built the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) detectors, the most accurate measuring devices ever created. In this updated edition, Bartusiak brings the story to a thrilling close with the triumphant discovery of gravitational waves made with the LIGO. "An important, multifaceted scientific story…part theoretical physics, part astronomy, part experimental physics, part engineering."—James Ryerson, New York Times Book Review

Book excerpt: Right from the get-go I was never going to believe that we were not meant to be happy! At just 15 years of age the thought of spending the rest of my life in misery because we werent put on this earth to be happy was a thought too frightening to conceive. As I projected this sentiment forward and imagined the long years ahead, then and there I made the commitment that I was going to find the pathway to happiness: that I would live a joyful life. By the time I had reached my middle years this commitment had become an obsession. During this lifetime, I would find the keys to happiness. Whatever it took, joy was my goal and I wouldnt rest until I found it. With glimpses of happiness along the way, I was motivated and driven. Love yourself first! What does that mean? How do you do that? There were lots of great suggestions but very few helpful guidelines. Entrenched in a middle-income mindset I held many limiting beliefs that kept me squarely where I was. But for an enquiring mind and a fearless heart that had almost lost its desire to fight on, I may have drowned in the mire of unworthiness. Little by little the pieces of the puzzle came together. My journey took me to explore both inside and out: what others had to offer and the filters through which I was living my life. A woman on a mission, I wouldnt let it go until I had discovered the answers. Joy! We are meant to be joyful. We are meant to be happy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Jim Holt, the New York Times bestselling author of Why Does the World Exist?, comes an entertaining and accessible guide to the most profound scientific and mathematical ideas of recent centuries in When Einstein Walked with Gödel: Excursions to the Edge of Thought. Does time exist? What is infinity? Why do mirrors reverse left and right but not up and down? In this scintillating collection, Holt explores the human mind, the cosmos, and the thinkers who’ve tried to encompass the latter with the former. With his trademark clarity and humor, Holt probes the mysteries of quantum mechanics, the quest for the foundations of mathematics, and the nature of logic and truth. Along the way, he offers intimate biographical sketches of celebrated and neglected thinkers, from the physicist Emmy Noether to the computing pioneer Alan Turing and the discoverer of fractals, Benoit Mandelbrot. Holt offers a painless and playful introduction to many of our most beautiful but least understood ideas, from Einsteinian relativity to string theory, and also invites us to consider why the greatest logician of the twentieth century believed the U.S. Constitution contained a terrible contradiction—and whether the universe truly has a future.
