Book excerpt: If Einstein Wer Alive, Would He Use A Laptop For His Notes? | 100 Inspirational Einstein Quotes Do you want to know what one of the greatest minds ever had to say about love, imagination, science and life? Do you love inspirational quotes? Then you need the Einstein Quote Notebook ! Believe it or not, paper notebooks are as relevant today as they were 25 years ago. This inspirational ruled notebook has 100 inspirational quotes from Einstein himself. Laptop Or Paper? Technology promises to make our lives more productive. Indeed, some things are faster and easier than ever. Unfortunately, a lot of technology is designed for the task, not for the user. As a result, people are able to take more notes (transcribe), yet understand less. Have you ever taken copious notes in a class or meeting using your computer only to realize afterwards you still didn't understand? Taking notes on paper forces you to synthesize rather than merely transcribe. Imagine you were wrongly accused of a crime and the world's most experienced court stenographer offered to represent you for free. Would you try to save a buck or shell out the money on an experienced attorney? The stenographer has heard as many court arguments, been in as many trials, listened to as many verdicts as most attorneys. However, their experience has primarily been that of transcription, not of comprehension and understanding. Because you desire comprehension and understanding rather than simple transcription, the Einstein Quote Notebook is a must. Studies Prove the Benefits of Paper Notebooks Based on a study conducted at UCLA, the Association for Psychological Science proclaimed "taking notes by hand is better than taking notes on a laptop". Will you take advantage of this knowledge to gain an edge on your competition at school, work, or business? How will better understanding by using the Einstein Quote Notebook make things easier for you? Organize Your Life Get rid of the scraps of paper with important tasks, notes, and phone numbers written on them. Use the Einstein Quote Notebook to neatly organize your life. Improve Your Memory Scientific studies show writing notes helps you remember better. Remember, you're not taking notes to refer to later, you're writing it down to remember it now! Improve Your Creativity Have you ever had an earth shattering idea or inspiration? Have you ever forgotten it a few minutes later? Think about the increased opportunities you'll have once you begin to capture those fleeting creative sparks in your Einstein Quote Notebook. Don't let your genius ideas escape into the ether. Feel Better By Logging Your Progress Write down your accomplishments with your hobbies, weight loss, and other life goals. Use the Einstein Quote Notebook to look back feel good about yourself and the great things you've done! What Really Matters? Think about the importance of your birth certificate, marriage certificate, property deeds, or even the laws that govern our society...the stuff that really matters goes onto paper! Buy the Einstein Quote Notebook today, make what you write matter!

He tries to make the general reader see the problems that concerned Einstein and understand the kinds of theories he constructed to solve them... This calls for scientific popularization of a high order... Hoffmann [...] does it very effectively.” — Martin Klein and Robert Merton, The New York Times “... succeeds in catching some of Einstein’s wholeness, the genius and the human being, the scientist and the responsible citizen.” — Peter Bergmann, Physics Today “What a rewarding and civilizing book for anyone interested in physics, its history, and the look and smell of the whole era during which relativity and quantum physics established themselves! ... this is one of the few [biographies of Einstein] that gives an authentic view from close up” — Gerald Holton, The Physics Teacher “This book deserves to become a best-seller... I know of no other book on Einstein that gives so complete and well balanced a picture of that great man.” — Otto Robert Frisch “... it is the very product of [Einstein’s] brain that most clearly delineates the man, and to get that across, there is none better than Dr. Hoffmann, who can write so charmingly that even General Relativity sounds like a fun thing in its very profound simplicity...” — Isaac Asimov “Here is an excellent biography of Albert Einstein by a theoretical physicist with broad interests and a deep human understanding... Hoffmann builds a remarkably interesting and human picture of an extremely gifted man...” — Louis Green, Sky and Telescope

Do you often find yourself pondering life's little conundrums? Have you ever wondered why the ocean is blue? Or why birds don't get electrocuted when perching on high-voltage power lines? Robert L. Wolke, professor emeritus of chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh and acclaimed author of What Einstein Didn't Know, understands the need to...well, understand. Now he provides more amusing explanations of such everyday phenomena as gravity (If you're in a falling elevator, will jumping at the last instant save your life?) and acoustics (Why does a whip make such a loud cracking noise?), along with amazing facts, belly-up-to-the-bar bets, and mind-blowing reality bites all with his trademark wit and wisdom. If you shoot a bullet into the air, can it kill somebody when it comes down? You can find out about all this and more in an astonishing compendium of the proverbial mind-boggling mysteries of the physical world we inhabit. Arranged in a question-and-answer format and grouped by subject for browsing ease, WHAT EINSTEIN TOLD HIS BARBER is for anyone who ever pondered such things as why colors fade in sunlight, what happens to the rubber from worn-out tires, what makes red-hot objects glow red, and other scientific curiosities. Book excerpt: Modesty, humor, compassion, and wisdom are the traits most evident in this illuminating selection of personal papers from the Albert Einstein Archives. The illustrious physicist wrote as thoughtfully to an Ohio fifth-grader, distressed by her discovery that scientists classify humans as animals, as to a Colorado banker who asked whether Einstein believed in a personal God. Witty rhymes, an exchange with Queen Elizabeth of Belgium about fine music, and expressions of his devotion to Zionism are but some of the highlights found in this warm and enriching book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first publication of Albert Einstein’s travel diary to the Far East and Middle East In the fall of 1922, Albert Einstein, along with his then-wife, Elsa Einstein, embarked on a five-and-a-half-month voyage to the Far East and Middle East, regions that the renowned physicist had never visited before. Einstein's lengthy itinerary consisted of stops in Hong Kong and Singapore, two brief stays in China, a six-week whirlwind lecture tour of Japan, a twelve-day tour of Palestine, and a three-week visit to Spain. This handsome edition makes available, for the first time, the complete journal that Einstein kept on this momentous journey. The telegraphic-style diary entries--quirky, succinct, and at times irreverent—record Einstein's musings on science, philosophy, art, and politics, as well as his immediate impressions and broader thoughts on such events as his inaugural lecture at the future site of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, a garden party hosted by the Japanese Empress, an audience with the King of Spain, and meetings with other prominent colleagues and statesmen. Entries also contain passages that reveal Einstein's stereotyping of members of various nations and raise questions about his attitudes on race. This beautiful edition features stunning facsimiles of the diary's pages, accompanied by an English translation, an extensive historical introduction, numerous illustrations, and annotations. Supplementary materials include letters, postcards, speeches, and articles, a map of the voyage, a chronology, a bibliography, and an index. Einstein would go on to keep a journal for all succeeding trips abroad, and this first volume of his travel diaries offers an initial, intimate glimpse into a brilliant mind encountering the great, wide world.

What began as an open source EJB container project six years ago has become a fully certified J2EE 1.4 application server with the largest market share, competitive with proprietary Java application servers in features and quality. And with its dynamic architecture, JBoss isn't just a J2EE server. You can alter the services to make J2EE work the way you want, or even throw J2EE away completely. After more than a million downloads, many JBoss users are no longer trying it out on internal test boxes, but rolling it out on production machines. JBoss: A Developer's Notebook takes you on a complete tour of JBoss in a very unique way: rather than long discussions, you will find code--lots of code. In fact, the book is a collection of hands-on labs that take you through the critical JBoss features step-by-step. You don't just read about JBoss, you learn it through direct practical application. That includes exploring the server's many configurations: from bare features for simple applications, to the lightweight J2EE configuration, to everything JBoss has in store-including Hibernate and Tomcat. JBoss: A Developer's Notebook also introduces the management console, the web services messaging features, enhanced monitoring capabilities, and shows you how to improve performance. At the end of each lab, you'll find a section called "What about..." that anticipates and answers likely follow-up questions, along with a section that points you to articles and other resources if you need more information. JBoss is truly an extraordinary application server. And we have an extraordinary way for you to learn it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1903, despite the vehement objections of his parents, Albert Einstein married Mileva Maric, the companion, colleague, and confidante whose influence on his most creative years has given rise to much speculation. Beginning in 1897, after Einstein and Maric met as students at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic, and ending shortly after their marriage, these fifty-four love letters offer a rare glimpse into Einstein's relationship with his first wife while shedding light on his intellectual development in the period before the annus mirabilis of 1905. Unlike the picture of Einstein the lone, isolated thinker of Princeton, he appears here both as the burgeoning enfant terrible of science and as an amorous young man beset, along with his fiance, by financial and personal struggles--among them the illegitimate birth of their daughter, whose existence is known only by these letters. Describing his conflicts with professors and other scientists, his arguments with his mother over Maric, and his difficulty obtaining an academic position after graduation, the letters enable us to reconstruct the youthful Einstein with an unprecedented immediacy. His love for Maric, whom he describes as "a creature who is my equal, and who is as strong and independent as I am," brings forth his serious as well as playful, often theatrical nature. After their marriage, however, Maric becomes less his intellectual companion, and, failing to acquire a teaching certificate, she subordinates her professional goals to his. In the final letters Einstein has obtained a position at the Swiss Patent Office and mentions their daughter one last time to his wife in Hungary, where she is assumed to have placed the girl in the care of relatives. Informative, entertaining, and often very moving, this collection of letters captures for scientists and general readers alike a little known yet crucial period in Einstein's life.
