Book Synopsis Dictionaries. An International Encyclopedia of Lexicography by : Rufus Gouws
Download or read book Dictionaries. An International Encyclopedia of Lexicography written by Rufus Gouws and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2013-12-18 with total page 1592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The basis for this additional volume are the three volumes of the handbooks Dictionaries. An International Encyclopedia of Lexicography (HSK 5.1–5.3), published between 1989 and 1991. An updating has been perceived as an important desideratum for a considerable time. In the present Supplementary Volume the premises and subjects of HSK 5.1–5.3 are complemented by new articles that take account of the practice-internal and theoretical developments of the last 15 years. Special attention has been given to the following topics: the status and function of lexicographic reference works, the history of lexicography, the theory of lexicography, lexicographic processes, lexicographic training and lexicographic institutions, new metalexicographic methods, electronic and, especially, computer-assisted lexicography.
Book Synopsis Einführung in den Jugoslawischen Marxismus-Leninismus by : L. Vrtacic

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Bibliography of Bibliographies of the Languages of the World: General and Indo-European languages of Europe by :
Download or read book Bibliography of Bibliographies of the Languages of the World: General and Indo-European languages of Europe written by and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1990-01-01 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is Volume I of a monumental two-volume work, a historical record and guide to bibliographic efforts on all the languages of the world, which is designed to serve the professional as well as non-professional reader as a first point of entry for information about any language. By consulting the Bibliography, the reader will quickly be able to identify specific bibliographic sources for particular topics of interest, and thus rapidly begin to narrow the search for information. Although bibliographies of bibliographies have appeared for a few language families, this set provides for the first time a comprehensive compilation of bibliographies for all of the languages or language families of the world, from the earliest period through 1985. Volume I, with nearly 2500 entries in 400 pages, covers the Indo-European languages of Europe, plus Etruscan and Basque, as well as general and multi-language references, including sections on dictionaries, dissertations, and specialized topics. Volume II, with approximately the same number of entries, will cover all other languages. In the Bibliography, most entries are annotated to indicate the number of items in each bibliography and how they are arranged; some information on the scope and coverage of the work (where not obvious from the title); whether items are annotated; and what indexes are included. The Bibliography will long stand as an indispensable reference tool, and should be in every library serving readers interested in any aspect of language.

Book excerpt: Thoroughly revised and updated with some 500 new entries-including the addition of pertinent Internet sites-this is the only bibliographic guide to information sources for linguistics. Coverage spans from 1957, the publication date of Chomsky's seminal work, to the present, with emphasis on English-language resources. DeMiller's detailed citations describe and evaluate each work, often offering comparisons to similar titles. The book is also indispensable in the related areas of anthropological linguistics, applied linguistics, mathematical and computation linguistics, psycholinguistics, semiotics, and sociolinguistics, which are all treated in separate chapters, as well as the study of language and languages from a linguistic perspective. A must for any library supporting the study of linguistics or its related fields, this is a valuable reference and research tool. It i

Book Synopsis Between Demonstration and Imagination by : Lodi Nauta
Download or read book Between Demonstration and Imagination written by Lodi Nauta and published by BRILL. This book was released on 1999-04-26 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays in this volume reflect the wide-ranging interests of John D. North, distinguished historian of science and philosophy. Section One has papers on horoscopes, astrolabes and time-reckoning, and it includes an edition of a twelfth-century treatise on the astrolabe and surveys of astrolabes. Section Two is devoted to the study of the medieval cosmos. These contributions discuss Calcidian astronomy, astronomy in the Spanish Jewish community, the role of God in scholastic natural philosophy, and other themes. New information is presented about previously unknown scholars such as Abd al-Mas of Winchester and Simon Bredon. Section Three contains essays on philosophy and scholarship in the early modern period, including pieces about commentaries on Boethius's "Consolatio Philosophiae" in the Northern Renaissance, Spinozistic philosophy, and the early modern concept of substance. These essays take up the various themes to which John D. North has made important contributions: the development of scientific knowledge and methodology, the style of scientific and philosophical thought, and the uses of scientific knowledge in the making of instruments or the casting of horoscopes: this book will be of much interest to all historians of science and philosophy. Contributors include: Charles Burnett, Bruce S. Eastwood, Owen Gingerich, Bernard R. Goldstein, Edward Grant, Keith Hutchison, David A. King, Richard Lorch, F.R. Maddison, Lodi Nauta, Detlev Patzold, J.A. van Ruler, Julio Samso, Keith Snedegar, A.J. Turner, Arjo Vanderjagt, and G. Frederici Vescovini.
