Book excerpt: Research with the Locus of Control Construct, Volume 3: Extensions and Limitations presents the extensions of use of the locus of control construct into areas far removed from the purview of the construct's originators and limitations of that usage. This book is divided into two parts. Part I describes the large number of investigations that have been conducted in each of three psychological domains—industrial psychology, psychophysiology, and cross-cultural psychology. Part II examines the question of the circumstances under which locus of control is a useful construct. This volume is recommended for psychologists and medical practitioners concerned with the locus of control contract.

Download or read book Research with the Locus of Control Construct written by Herbert M. Lefcourt and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research with the Locus of Control Construct, Volume 1: Assessment Methods was created to serve two purposes. The first is to fill the researcher's need for information about the application of appropriate locus of control scales to their particular purposes or samples. It presents a variety of locus of control scales and describes the relevant research and applications. The second purpose for this book involves the general field of personality psychology. Often personality constructs emerge, occupy center stage for the better part of a decade, and then almost silently disappear from view. By contrast, the locus of control construct has occupied a central position in personality research for a decade. The contributions to this volume represent some of the innovations that extend the utility of the locus of control construct to different areas of concern. It illustrates a simple principle—that a construct continues to be viable only as long as it continues to inspire innovations; if it remains static the construct will eventually disappear. This book is intended to provide information regarding new developments and to encourage new questions and applications that may allow the locus of control construct to outlive the brief life span that is common among personality constructs. It is assumed that the reader is already familiar with the basic literature on locus of control research.

This book was released on 2020-10-13 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Academic Paper from the year 2020 in the subject Psychology - Social Psychology, Walden University (Department of Psychology), language: English, abstract: This paper will provide an integrated review of literature. Common themes and different views about the topic 'Locus Control - Community and Individuality' will be compared based on narrative theory views of different authors. It will be analysed what they have to say about an individual's problem-solving skills, critical thinking through self-identity, altruism, and recognition of environmental influences through the act of using locus of control individually and within community. Learn-oriented situations are created for the purpose of learning strategies to guide learners in the achievement of internal locus of control and external locus of control. Social research requires the analyzation of community and qualitative or quantitative methods to develop transformative social change. When comparing different authors beliefs, there are some similarities, but they differ along a continuum of factors. These factors range from the use of technology to simplistic strategies derived from learned precepts and concepts of interaction, that are learned through environmental and role stimulation or acquired through parental and social interactions. Such known causes of effects influence or alter how individuals view relationships in community and if they are drawn to receive their potential from external influences (External Locus Control) or from their own concrete view of life from their inward persona in order to make sound and just decisions (Internal Locus Control). Locus control is vital for how a person develops further throughout life. It is just as pertinent to consider that both external locus control and internal locus control are needed at different stages in life to strengthen community and individuality.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Past research suggest that relationships exist between Type A personality, stress, and coronary heart disease. This thesis determined that Type A individuals are inclined to experience more stress than Type B individuals in similar situations. A relationship was found between Type A behavior and internal locus of control indicating that individuals with internal locus of control are more likely to be Type A personalities than type B personalities. Relationships were also found among Type A behavior, internal locus of control, and assertiveness indicating that Type A individuals are more assertive than Type B individuals. Family inventory was inversely related to locus of control inferring that internal locus of control individuals are more satisfied with their personal relationships than are external locus of control individuals. Because family inventory was also inversely related to stress, when stress is present in one area of an internal locus of control individuals's life, the individual looks to other areas of their life for satisfaction. No relationship was found between stress and assertiveness indicating that assertive individuals deal more effectively with stressful situations. This investigation also determined that as the environment changes to a more structured rigid environment, the individual shifts from an internal to an external locus of control. These determinations were based on statistical analysis using Pearson Correlations, Paired t-Tests, and Regression Analysis. (Author).
