Book Synopsis Atmospheric Aerosol Properties and Climate Impacts by : Mian Chin
Download or read book Atmospheric Aerosol Properties and Climate Impacts written by Mian Chin and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2009-05 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Synthesis and Assessment Product (SAP) critically reviews current knowledge about global distributions and properties of atmospheric aerosols, as they relate to aerosol impacts on climate. It assesses possible next steps aimed at substantially reducing uncertainties in aerosol radiative forcing estimates. Current measurement techniques and modeling approaches are summarized, providing context. The objectives of this report are: (1) to promote a consensus about the knowledge base for climate change decision support; and (2) to provide a synthesis and integration of the current knowledge of the climate-relevant impacts of anthropogenic aerosols. Illustrations.

Book Synopsis Evaluation of a Balanced 300-mb Height Analysis as a Reference Level for Satellite-derived Soundings by : Albert Thomasell
Download or read book Evaluation of a Balanced 300-mb Height Analysis as a Reference Level for Satellite-derived Soundings written by Albert Thomasell and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A technique is developed and evaluated for using wind observations through application of the balance equation to improve the accuracy of objective height analysis in regions between height observations to provide reliable reference heights for satellite derived soundings. At upper levels (near 300 mb), numerous aircraft winds and satellite observed cloud vector winds are available for this purpose. In regions of moderate size, where the height analysis is determined primarily by winds and where the winds are deemed sufficiently dense and accurate, the technique produces interpolated height values with an estimated rms error of 30 m or less 80 to 85% of the time. Where these conditions are met it is concluded that the technique provides reliable reference heights.

Book Synopsis Satellite Measurements of Tropospheric Aerosols by : M. Griggs
Download or read book Satellite Measurements of Tropospheric Aerosols written by M. Griggs and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This investigation uses LANDSAT 2 radiance data and ground-truth measurements of the aerosol optical thickness, obtained previously from five inland sites, to study the usefulness and limitations of the near infrared radiance over inland bodies of water. The linear relationship between LANDSAT 2 MSS7 and aerosol content found in this study can be used to estimate the aerosol content with a standard deviation of 0.42N. Analysis of the data for MSS6 and MSS7 suggest that the larger uncertainty is mostly due to water turbidity, with little contribution from the adjacency effect. The relationship found is best applied to determine an average aerosol content over a period of time at a given target, or an area average at a given time over several targets close together.
