Book Synopsis Impact of Asphalt Thickness on Pavement Quality by : Rebecca S. McDaniel
Download or read book Impact of Asphalt Thickness on Pavement Quality written by Rebecca S. McDaniel and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 537: Impact of Asphalt Thickness on Pavement Quality documents transportation agency policy for lift thickness and minimum compaction requirements on resultant asphalt pavement quality. To achieve expected pavement performance, it is important that asphalt concrete (AC) have adequate density. A critical factor in achieving this density is the ratio of lift thickness to nominal maximum aggregate size (t/NMAS). The information in the report is designed to help make agencies aware of a range of practices other agencies use to achieve a desired t/NMAS ratio, ensuring that density of AC is adequate to meet expected pavement performance.

Book Synopsis Performance of Open-graded Friction Courses by : Richard W. Miller
Download or read book Performance of Open-graded Friction Courses written by Richard W. Miller and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report documents installation and evaluation of an experimental pavement using an open-graded asphalt friction course, placed as part of the FHWA's Demonstration project 10. Two different open-graded mixes -- one having a maximum aggregate size of 1/2-in and the other 1/4-in -- and a standard NYS 1A top mix were evaluated. Performance of the experimental pavement was determined by measuring air-void content, asphalt cement penetration and viscosity, skid resistance, rutting, and noise, and by visual observations of water drainage and splash and spray by passing traffic in wet weather. Results showed that the open-graded pavements performed better than the standard NYS 1A top.

Download or read book Gravel Roads written by Ken Skorseth and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this manual is to provide clear and helpful information for maintaining gravel roads. Very little technical help is available to small agencies that are responsible for managing these roads. Gravel road maintenance has traditionally been "more of an art than a science" and very few formal standards exist. This manual contains guidelines to help answer the questions that arise concerning gravel road maintenance such as: What is enough surface crown? What is too much? What causes corrugation? The information is as nontechnical as possible without sacrificing clear guidelines and instructions on how to do the job right.

Book Synopsis Compaction of Asphalt Pavement by : Charles S. Hughes
Download or read book Compaction of Asphalt Pavement written by Charles S. Hughes and published by Transportation Research Board National Research. This book was released on 1989 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to construction and materials engineers, paving contractors, equipment manufacturers, and others who are involved in assessing the performance of asphalt pavements. Information is presented on various issues related to compaction of asphalt pavements. Compaction is one of the most important factors affecting the performance of asphalt pavements. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the theory, methods, equipment, and specifications related to the compaction of asphalt pavements. A brief history of, the importance of, and factors affecting compaction are also discussed. Construction influences, density measurements, and trends are also considered.
