Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ISCRE 10 Tenth International Symposium on Chemical Reaction Engineering documents the proceedings of the symposium which brought together experts from all over the world to discuss developments in CRE. Efforts were made to cover high added value substances and to encourage papers from industry. Some success was achieved, but there remain significant gaps between Chemists and Chemical Engineers when considering high added value products as well as between researchers and practitioners of CRE. The volume begins with plenary papers covering topics such as challenges in reactor modeling; bioreactor engineering; the design of reaction systems for specialty organic chemicals. This is followed by papers presented during the eight technical sessions. Technical session A focused on the modeling and control of chemical reactions. Technical session B was devoted to studies on biotechnology. Technical session C covered mixing while Technical session D dealt with special reactor systems and chemicals. The papers in Technical session E examined reactions for emission control and recycling. Technical session F covered the safety aspects of CRE. Technical session G focused on the experiments with multiphase reactions while Technical session H dealt with catalytic reactors.

This book was released on 2012-01-25 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of this book is to study the porous media and the transport processes occur there. As a first step, the authors discuss several techniques for artificial representation of porous. Afterwards, they describe the single and multi phase flows in simplistic and complex porous structures in terms of macroscopic and microscopic equations as well as of their analytical and numerical solutions. Furthermore, macroscopic quantities such as permeability are introduced and reviewed. The book also discusses with mass transport processes in the porous media which are further strengthen by experimental validation and specific technological applications. This book makes use of state-of-the-art techniques for the modeling of transport processes in porous structures, and considers of realistic sorption mechanisms. It the applies advanced mathematical techniques for upscaling of the major quantities, and presents the experimental investigation and application, namely, experimental methods for the measurement of relevant transport properties. The main benefit of the book is that it discusses all the topics related to transport in porous media (including state-of-the-art applications) and presents some of the most important theoretical, numerical and experimental developments in porous media domain, providing a self-contained major reference that is appealing to both the scientists and the engineers. At the same time, these topics encounter a variety of scientific and engineering disciplines, such as chemical, civil, agricultural, mechanical engineering. The book is divided in several chapters that intend to be a resume of the current state of knowledge for benefit of related professionals and scientists.
Book Synopsis Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Porous Media by : Sadik Kakaç
Download or read book Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Porous Media written by Sadik Kakaç and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1083 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid growth of literature on convective heat and mass transfer through porous media has brought both engineering and fundamental knowledge to a new state of completeness and depth. Additionally, several new questions of fundamental merit have arisen in several areas which bear direct relation to further advancement of basic knowledge and applications in this field. For example, the growth of fundamental heat transfer data and correlations for engineering use for saturated media has now reached the point where the relations for heat transfer coefficients and flow parameters are known well enough for design purposes. Multiple flow field regimes in natural convection have been identified in several important enclosure geometries. New questions have arisen on the nature of equations being used in theoretical studies, i. e. , the Validity of Darcy assumption is being brought into question; Wall effects in high and low velocity flow fields have been found to play a role in predicting transport coefficients; The formulation of transport problems in fractured media are being investigated as both an extension of those in a homogeneous medium and for application in engineering systems in geologic media and problems on saturated media are being addressed to determine their proper formulation and solution. The long standing problem of how to adequately formulate and solve problems of multi-phase heat and mass transfer in heterogeneous media is important in the technologies of chemical reactor engineering and enhanced oil recovery.
