Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a rethinking of the burgeoning research on not-for-profit organizations and socially responsible economics. Adopting a comparative approach, the chapters explore and reinterpret the impact of social enterprises on the provision of general-interest services, work integration, microfinance, and fair trade, and show how these enterprises form the hub of an emerging economy of social responsibility. The book provides a new interpretation of social enterprises as entrepreneurial organizations that pursue social objectives and are successful due to the non-self-seeking motives of their members. This book will be of interest to postgraduate students, professionals working in the not-for-profit sector, and scholars interested in socially responsible economics. It is particularly suitable for seminars and workshops focusing on the management of not-for-profit organizations, sustainable development, and globalization.

Book excerpt: "At present, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for some may not be more than an attitude. Can it be more? What degree of commitment can we reasonably expect of corporations in the struggle to eradicate poverty, promote human rights, halt climate change and reverse ongoingenvironmental destruction? It is not a question of power; more than half of the worlds top 100 economies are corporations, not nation-states. Whatever can be done to "fix" the world's problems, corporations are in the best position to do [it]."--Back cover.

Book excerpt: This book illustrates how CSR can be used as a tool to improve corporate governance in organizations and improve the relationship between business and society. Connecting corporate social responsibility (CSR) with corporate governance (CG) is a 21st century challenge, and the book argues that CSR and CG should be addressed together in synergy in the management literature. Linking these two crucial business functions, it describes the preconditions for successful integration and the tools for practical implementation. Volume 1 covers corporate governance from the perspective of CSR, where responsible and sustainable business is a common goal and the tasks are to create core values, business policy and organizational strategies.

This book was released on 2021-06-08 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The strategies and practical approaches for socio-economic development are undergoing systemic changes under the influence of new developments in global economic systems and markets. The most significant factors influencing such changes are connected to the start of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0), which is impacting all economic systems to a greater or lesser extent. The creation of the digital economy and transition to Industry 4.0 particularly increases the significance of hi-tech for socio-economic development. Secondly, there is now a transition underway from a period of unlimited globalization and comprehensive integration to more limited globalization and selective economic integration. The growing importance of regionalization on the global economic system is manifested in the formation and rapid development of new integration unions at the regional or country level (e.g., the EU and the EAEU), and company level (e.g., regional sectoral economic clusters, special economic areas, technological parks, and innovative networks). Thirdly, there’s an urgent need for faster innovation, which leads to the formation of more innovative economies. The global financial crisis drew attention to the problems of managing sustainability and achieving balance in socio-economic development. The formation and exponential growth of the information society, based on digital technologies, is now stimulating the growth and significance of corporate social and environmental responsibility as a prerequisite for entrepreneurial success. Thus, the paradigm of socio-economic development is changing from absolute rationality (economic effectiveness) and stability – which has historically been associated with problems of stagnation – to responsibility (limited and socially-oriented rationality) and dynamism (quick innovative development based on leading technologies). This book aims to provide a scientific substantiation for this new paradigm.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprehensively describes social responsibility and sustainable development, with contributions from scientists and representatives from industry working in the field. The papers are innovative, cross-cutting and many share practice-based experiences, some of which may be replicable elsewhere. Prepared by the Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme (IUSDRP) and the World Sustainable Development Research and Transfer Centre (WSD-RTC), it reiterates the current need to promote social responsibility. Social responsibility and sustainable development are two different concepts, whose integration over the years has led to significant advances in the way enterprises see and perceive their operations. It is not only about policies or steps taken to meet legal requirements, but is also about social equality and environmental accountability, also bearing in mind the links with eco-efficiency, innovation, and the health and wellbeing of workers. According to ISO 26000, social responsibility is the responsibility of an organisation for the impacts of its decisions and activities on society and the environment, through transparent and ethical behaviour that: a) contributes to sustainable development, including health and the welfare of society b) takes into account the expectations of stakeholders c) is in compliance with applicable law and consistent with international norms of behaviour d) is integrated throughout the organisation and practised in its relationships. But even though the relations between social responsibility and sustainability are strong, it is still necessary to encourage organisations to adhere to, or at least follow the principles of sustainable development in their operations, giving something back to the community. As such, there is a need for a better understanding of how social responsibility is related to sustainable development, and of the identification of processes, methods and tools that may help the integration of these two important elements. There is also a real need to showcase successful examples of how to structure behaviour and institutional practice in line with the sustainability challenges we face today. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Companies contribute to the development of the community in which they are located and constantly face new challenges linked to their environment. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is one of those challenges because it supposes for the companies the integration of social and environmental objectives, together with the traditional economic objectives that allow them to establish a management model of their positive and negative externalities. However, CSR is not a new discovery for social economy companies. The values and principles of CSR have been present in the heart of the cooperative model since its origins. The main objective of this book is to analyze the role of CSR in companies of the social economy from different perspectives and sectors. This book compiles eight contributions from outstanding specialists who approach the theoretical analysis of supranational territorial spaces such as the European Union and the different lines of public action for the promotion of CSR strategies in social companies, including a study of national and local cases focused on banking, agro-industry and tourism. The authors of this book intend to show and interest the reader to a rigorous and varying panorama of the state of research applied to social economy companies and how they integrate CSR into their objectives.

Book excerpt: Current global economic crises call for social responsibility to replace neo-liberalistic, one-sided and short-term criteria causing monopolies of global enterprises. The triad ‘freedom, brotherhood, equality’ and ‘the invisible hand’ support the hypothesis of interdependence among humans. Humanity’s existence is endangered under the threat of global capitalism, unless the social responsibility’s concept ‘everyone’s social responsibility impacts everyone in society’ becomes the new socio-economic order, realized alongside concepts as ‘interdependence’ and ‘holism’ and using its principles of accountability, transparency, ethical behavior, respect for stakeholders, for the rule of law, for international norms and human rights. Social Responsibility – A non-technological innovation process explores the realm of social responsibility in the context of innovation, business practice and economic crises. Readers can apply related principles to their business practices and enhance their business prospects in a modern environment facing the challenges of socio-economic crises. This volume is intended for graduates and professionals working in government organizations and commercial enterprises, to learn basic concepts about social responsibility and introduce holistic management practices in their daily and professional lives.
