Book excerpt: How I Became a Dragon Author: Suzanne Mondoux How I Became a Dragon is the deeply affecting work of fiction inspired by real-life experience by conservationist Heatha that charts the course of ivory trafficking from the fierce assault on the elephant to its ultimate destination as a carved piece of ivory. Told from the point of view of a young woman shedding her naive perspective on what it really means to work and dedicate her life for conservation, she takes you on a journey of how and why elephants lost their life for the sake of their grand tusks. Her chilling experience with illegal poaching is certain to move readers to do their part to end this vicious crime. The story also reveals how many individuals participate in the journey for one illicit piece of ivory, whether in a large or small way, and how one act of lawless poaching greatly affects the global elephant community.

Full of sly humor, this rambunctious novel will appeal to fans tired of the usual epic fantasy.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review) “A brilliantly imagined, well-executed jaunt through strange lands full of wild characters.” —Booklist “Cross Lord of the Rings with Yellow Submarine, throw in dashes of Monty Python, Douglas Adams, Shrek and The Princess Bride, season with more serious fare such as The Tin Drum and The Odyssey . . . part of the pleasure of reading it is to see what echoes will next bounce off its crags.” —Kirkus Reviews

Proven successful in the pharmaceutical-, food- and water sectors, it has also breached the field of energy systems. The future energy systems aim to be more efficient, cost-effective, environmentally benign, and interconnected. The design and operation is extremely challenging for decision-makers, engineers, and scientists and here lies a crucial role for the process systems engineer.

This book was released on 2022-07-19 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hilbert-type inequalities including Hilbert’s inequalities (built-in 1908), Hardy-Hilbert-type inequalities (built-in 1934), and Yang-Hilbert-type inequalities (built-in 1998) played an important role in analysis and their applications, which are mainly divided into three classes of integral, discrete and half-discrete. In recent twenty years, there are many advances in research on Hilbert-type inequalities, especially in Yang-Hilbert-type inequalities. In this book, applying the weight functions, the parameterized idea, and the techniques of real analysis and functional analysis, we provide three kinds of Hilbert-type and Hardy-type integral inequalities in the whole plane as well as their reverses with parameters, which are extensions of Hilbert-type and Hardy-type integral inequalities in the first quarter. The equivalent forms, the operator expressions, and some equivalent statements of the best possible constant factors related to several parameters are considered. The lemmas and theorems provide an extensive account of these kinds of integral inequalities and operators. There are seven chapters in this book. In Chapter 1, we introduce some recent developments of Hilbert-type integral, discrete, and half-discrete inequalities. In Chapters 2-3, by using the weight function and real analysis, some new Hilbert-type and Hardy-type integral inequalities in the whole plane with the non-homogeneous kernel are given, and the cases of the homogeneous kernel are deduced. The equivalent forms and some equivalent statements of the best possible constant factors related to several parameters are obtained. We also consider the operator expressions as well as the reverses. In Chapters 4-7, the other two kinds of Hilbert-type and Hardy-type integral inequalities in the whole plane are also considered. We hope that this monograph will prove to be useful especially to graduate students of mathematics, physics, and engineering sciences.

Book excerpt: Delve into gender lens investing and the reality of the female economy Women today are an unparalleled force in the global economy—as successful entrepreneurs, corporate executives and family breadwinners. Yet gender-based violence, the absence of women's legal rights and the persistent wage gap stubbornly remain. This paradox creates an unprecedented and underexplored opportunity for investors. Gender Lens Investing, co-authored by Jackie VanderBrug, Managing Director and Joseph Quinlan, Managing Director and Chief Market Strategist, of U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management, is the first book of its kind to examine, in-depth the advantages of integrating gender into investment analysis. While other books speak to growing numbers and influence of women, Gender Lens Investing moves from economic trends to financial strategy. Learn why gender is material to economic prosperity and investment performance Explore ways to use a gender lens to assess products, companies and sectors. Delve into the forces of positive social change supported by a gender perspective on investment choices Examine profitable and gratifying gender lens investment strategies Women are one of the world's greatest underutilized assets, and applying a gender lens allows you to identify companies that recognize this, or uncover the risks of companies that neglect it. A gender lens adds value across the investment community, but the impact reaches far beyond the bounds of portfolios to the economy and society as a whole. Gender Lens Investing provides expert perspective and real-world practical insight for investors looking to drive returns and impact.
