This book was released on 2021-07-28 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the introductory volume of a multivolume, verse-by-verse, interfaith rereading of the New Testament letter to the Ephesians. It looks to the Tiantai Buddhist master Zhiyi and his “threefold truth” to enhance our appreciation of nascent trinitarian themes in Ephesians. And it draws upon a broad array of scientific, theological, and philosophical thinkers in aid of rejecting the epistle's ancient, geocentric cosmology and its accommodations to the misogynistic, patriarchal, and slaveholding norms of its first-century surroundings. As a whole, the work constitutes a twenty-first century apologetic for doctrinal humility and for theologizing within a global theological commons.

This book was released on 2022-09-09 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is volume 2 of a wide-ranging interfaith reading of the Letter to the Ephesians—a New Testament text whose words have inspired and enhanced Christian spiritual life and liturgy over the centuries. Unfortunately, at the same time, Ephesians has provided apparent scriptural support to those who would defend slavery, patriarchy, misogyny, and the physical power of Christ over the cosmos. How on earth are today’s Christians to receive and understand such a text as this? Earthing the Cosmic Christ of Ephesians: The Universe, Trinity, and Zhiyi’s Threefold Truth draws upon a broad array of scientific, theological, and philosophical thinkers who enable us both to marvel at today’s ever-expanding knowledge of our vast cosmos and to appreciate the importance of the Ephesian letter in the canon of our Christian scriptures, even while we acknowledge the archaic geocentric cosmology that underlies its claims about the cosmic Christ and reject its accommodation to the patriarchal, misogynistic, and slaveholding norms of its first-century culture. Throughout this reading of Ephesians, we look to Chinese Buddhist master Zhiyi and his “threefold truth” to enhance our understanding of trinity and the nascent trinitarian themes within this letter. As a whole, this work constitutes a new appreciation for Ephesians as well as a twenty-first century apologetic for doctrinal humility and for theologizing within a global theological commons.

This book was released on 2023-05-23 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As both a scholar of Buddhism and a Christian priest, John P. Keenan engages with the New Testament letter to the Ephesians, written by a member of the Pauline school likely near the end of the first century—a time when both the cultural world and the cosmos were much narrower than for us today. In pondering this scripture’s significance for residents of the twenty-first century, Keenan looks to the work of scholars and thinkers both ancient and modern, Eastern and Western, scientists and philosophers. Particular attention is given to Chinese Buddhist master Zhiyi’s explanation of a threefold truth, which resonates with an early trinitarian theme in Ephesians and suggests the riches to be discovered upon the global theological commons.

This book was released on 2024-02-26 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a Tiantai theology, conventional truth is conventionally arisen, which means that such truth is never set once and for all, but is to be cherished and rethought in new circumstances, whether interreligious or scientific—but always in critical consonance with its ancient embodiments. Contexts shift frameworks, but life in Christ is translatable across cultures. Christian faith and theology discourage the assumption that the point of it can be clearly pinned down. God’s appearance to Elijah out of the whirlwind is an eternal reminder of the paltriness of all human perspectives. Symbolic worlds of faith and wisdom are not themselves finished products. Because it has a past and a future, the cosmos itself is unfinished. Christian creeds ought not be defended as last-word ideological positions and bastions against relativity, but instead recognized in their cultural contexts and affirmed as grammars of communal and personal assent.

Book Synopsis Ephesians – 1st Century Background and 21st Century Applications by : George Gilchrist
Download or read book Ephesians – 1st Century Background and 21st Century Applications written by George Gilchrist and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2013-02-08 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many, the Bible is a mysterious and “closed” book. However, Ephesians – 1st Century Background and 21st Century Applications seeks to “open” this great New Testament letter. Ephesians – 1st Century Background and 21st Century Applications give the reader or a study group the tools for understanding the historical, linguistic, geographical, literary, and theological foundations of the six chapters of Ephesians. Though some may view “Bible study” as merely increasing one?s “head knowledge” with little or no change in lifestyle, attitudes, or behavior, Ephesians – 1st Century Background and 21st Century Applications shows practical ways that one?s “lifestyle, attitude, and behavior may be shaped by the Scriptures.” The Biblical text for Ephesians – 1st Century Background and 21st Century Applications is a paraphrase created by the author and built upon the original Greek text plus several English and French translations. Ephesians – 1st Century Background and 21st Century Applications provides opportunities for you to change around: • God?s grace, love, and reconciliation through Christ?s death and resurrection. • The church is not a building or a bureaucracy, but it “exists wherever people are committed to Jesus and one another.” • How Christ wants to be “at home” in every aspect of life. • Building a strong marriage and family life.

This book was released on 2018-01-16 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The "Heavenly Citizens" series serves as a tool to help the Christian understand not only what the Bible teaches us, but also how to study the Bible. Explaining what the Bible teaches is like giving someone a fish to eat. Teaching him how to study the Bible is like teaching someone how to fish so he can feed himself. Both approaches are essential to developing spiritual maturity. "Ephesians" is the fifteenth volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series. The Apostle Paul begins this letter with a greeting from God the Father and God's Son Jesus. It is written to the Church of Ephesus, located on the west coast of Asia Minor (modern Turkey) at the Aegean Sea. Ephesus was the capital city of the Roman province of Asia. The landscape and culture of Roman Asia in Bible times was pervaded with the "mystery religions," of which "Gnosticism" was one. To the Gnostics God could not have a human son because... Well, that is a long story, one which is to be found inside this fifteenth volume of our Heavenly Citizens series. So come inside and read all about it! Unlike the churches in Galatia and the Church of Corinth, the Church of Ephesus was not steeped in heresy. It was a strong and thriving church at the time of this letter, sending out missionaries to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and plant churches all over Roman Asia. But two spiritual dangers threatened this vibrant church notwithstanding. This too is a long story, so we invite you to come inside and read all about it as well. Microwave Bible might be quick, but it never can nourish a growing boy into a spiritual man of God. So for a thorough understanding of these issues, we invite you to come inside and join the Bible class with us. We plan to delve into each and every detail and get to the bottom of it. After all, we do want our church today to be spiritually vibrant and fecund, don't we? What better way to accomplish this, than to enjoy a thorough study of the Apostle Paul's Letter to the Ephesians. The approach for "Ephesians," and for every volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series, is to teach the student the meaning of Scripture. We also teach him or her how to study the Bible on his/her own. We do this in two ways: we provide a few rules by which to govern our Bible study, and we demonstrate by example how to study the Bible. Experience is an outstanding teacher. In our books we practice the rules for Bible study. By walking through the Bible with us, the reader experiences firsthand what our method of study is like. We believe the student will come out of our studies with both an understanding of the Bible and the ability to truthfully understand the Bible on his/her own. The path lies before you. Walk through the gate and join the journey with us! And may the blessings of the Lord Jesus Christ be yours in abundance.
Book Synopsis Ephesians by : D Min Dallas R Burdette
Download or read book Ephesians written by D Min Dallas R Burdette and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One objective of this book is to set forth the heart of Christian theology. This volume is composed of sixteen in-depth studies designed to strengthen and encourage Christians in their daily walk with God and with one another. Chapter 1 begins with an overview of the Book of Ephesians in order to set the proper background to understanding how Paul unravels God's mystery. Chapters 2, 3, and 4 take a look at Paul's call to the ministry, the word saints, and the administration of God's grace. Chapter 5 explores the existence of God. Since Jesus is the center of Christianity, three chapters (6, 7, and 8) focus upon different aspects of Christ as Redeemer. Chapter 9 examines Paul's defense of Jesus' Incarnation. The next three Chapters (10, 11, and 12) are devoted to Christ as the fulfillment of Messianic prophecy. Chapter 10 scans the Book of Genesis. Chapter 11 discusses Moses' prophecy in Deuteronomy 18:15 and Balaam's prophecies in the Book of Numbers. Chapter 12 unfolds the progressive announcement of the Coming Messiah in the Book of Isaiah. The last three chapters (14, 15, and 16) are devoted to an analysis of the biblical concept of predestination and election. Dallas Burdette has been a serious student, teacher and preacher of the Bible for sixty-two years, supporting himself for many years as an agent for AFLAC. He has written numerous articles for religious journals, as well as many essays and sermons which are available on his website (www.freedominchrist.net). He has developed a keen interest in promoting unity among God's people through a more accurate reading of the Word. He has degrees from Amridge University (formerly Southern Christian University) where he also was Director of Extended Learning for five years. He holds the Doctor of Ministry degree (1999) from Erskine Theological Seminary.
Book Synopsis The Cosmic Christ by : Hans-Werner Schroeder
Download or read book The Cosmic Christ written by Hans-Werner Schroeder and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question of the cosmic reality of Christ is central to modern Christian awareness. We see lively debate about Christ's nature in relation to the earth and creation, not only within the Church itself but also in more speculative areas of thinking and feeling, such as creation spirituality and the New Age movement. The works of Teilhard de Chardin and Fritjof Capra have stimulated many to think spiritually about the created world and the part of humankind in its evolution. These issues were also illuminated by Rudolf Steiner in his Christology, which placed the Incarnation at a pivotal point of earthly evolution. Exploring the work of the cosmic Christ, Schroeder draws upon these sources and clarifies the concepts of "reality, evil, and the meaning of cosmic." He summarizes the cosmic dimension of Christ in the New Testament and the developing consciousness of humans in relation to the Logos, and examines how we are to engage personally in a natural but deeply conscious relationship with the Christ among us. Hans-Werner Schroeder, born in 1931, is a priest of the Christian Community. He teaches at the seminary in Stuttgart and is part of the leadership of this movement for religious renewal.

Book Synopsis A Cosmic Leap of Faith by : Vincent A. Pizzuto
Download or read book A Cosmic Leap of Faith written by Vincent A. Pizzuto and published by Peeters Publishers. This book was released on 2006 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the array of christologies embodied within New Testament literature, the so-called "hymn" of Colossians 1: 15-20 offers a unique and invaluable contribution to contemporary theological and inter-religious discourse. This is because it conveys what is arguably the highest christological affirmation within the canon. Pizzuto contends that the hymn is a creative and faith-filled composition by the same deutero-Pauline author of the Colossians epistle itself and demonstrates that there is an inextricable relationship between the chiastic structure of Col 1: 15-20 and a proper understanding of its provenance, authorship and theology. Although the hymn echoes theological motifs consistent with Second Temple Judaism and loosely reflects a number of syncretistic influences, it is fundamentally the novelty of the "Christ-event," - the historical impact of Jesus of Nazareth - that has been most influential in determining the christological categories of Col 1: 15-20 and its larger epistolary framework. Pizzuto thus defends the overall integrity of the hymn against those who would assert that it reflects a pre-Christian or pre-Colossians origin. He concludes that Col 1: 15-20 represents something of a "leap" beyond Pauline christology into a new and unequivocal conviction of the cosmic implications of the Cross.
