Download or read book Stabilized Earth Roads written by A. Kézdi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-02-26 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments in Geotechnical Engineering, Volume 19: Stabilized Earth Roads surveys soil stabilization theory and practice. This work is divided into nine chapters that discuss the physical, chemical, and soil mechanics principles of soil stabilization. The first chapter is an introduction to the history, methods, and importance of soil stabilization in road construction. The next chapters deal with the fundamental definitions of soil physics and the interactions of soil components, as well as the concept of mechanical soil stabilization. Considerable chapters examine soil stabilization with several materials, such as cement, lime, bitumen, and tar. The last chapters describe the soil-stabilization methods with various chemicals, including chlorides, phosphoric acid, and natural and synthetic polymers. These chapters also consider the design of stabilized earth roads. This book is of value to geologists and civil engineers.

Book Synopsis The Use of the Split-log Drag on Earth Roads by : David Ward King
Download or read book The Use of the Split-log Drag on Earth Roads written by David Ward King and published by . This book was released on 1908 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The earth road is by far the most common type of highway in this country. Its cheapness in comparison with other types of construction and the absence in many sections of the country of rock, gravel, or other hard natural materials for road building will render its use necessary for many years to come. There are at present in this country about 2,000,000 miles of such roads, most of which must be maintained by some means more or less inexpensive. The split-log drag is of great service on roads of this class, and an increasing mileage of the rural highways of this country is being kept in repair economically and well by the use of this simple implement. It is now in use in many states of the Union and in foreign countries also and its adoption in most localities where there are earth roads will doubtless increase. The aim in writing this bulletin has been to give a concise description of the construction of the split-log drag, and the method of using it which will give the best results. The ditch cleaner, another useful implement for use on earth roads, has also been briefly described.

Download or read book Gravel Roads written by Ken Skorseth and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this manual is to provide clear and helpful information for maintaining gravel roads. Very little technical help is available to small agencies that are responsible for managing these roads. Gravel road maintenance has traditionally been "more of an art than a science" and very few formal standards exist. This manual contains guidelines to help answer the questions that arise concerning gravel road maintenance such as: What is enough surface crown? What is too much? What causes corrugation? The information is as nontechnical as possible without sacrificing clear guidelines and instructions on how to do the job right.
