Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Earnestly Contending, Dickson Bruce examines the ways in which religious denominations and movements in antebellum America coped with the ideals of freedom and pluralism that exerted such a strong influence on the larger, national culture. Despite their enormous normative power, these still-evolving ideals—themselves partly religious in origin—ran up against deeply entrenched concerns about the integrity of religious faith and commitment and the role of religion in society. The resulting tensions between these ideals and desires for religious consensus and coherence would remain unresolved throughout the period. Focusing on that era’s interdenominational competition, Bruce explores the possibilities for and barriers to realizing ideals of freedom and pluralism in antebellum America. He examines the nature of religion from the perspectives of anthropology and cognitive sciences, as well as history, and uses this interdisciplinary approach to organize and understand specific tendencies in the antebellum period while revealing properties inherent in religion as a social and cultural phenomenon. He goes on to show how issues from that era have continued to play a role in American religious thinking, and how they might shed light on the controversies of our own time.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fight the Good Fight of Faith We are definitely living at the end of the age — when many events prophesied long ago are coming to pass. One of those prophesied events is apostasy that will emerge in the Church at the end of the age. What exactly does the Bible say about it? And what should be our response to these end-time developments? In this crucial series Earnestly Contending for the Faith, Rick Renner teaches about what the Bible says will occur in the last days and how we are to respond to it. In this series, Rick covers: What it means to earnestly contend for the faith. How God expects us to maintain the purity of the faith. And divine warnings to those who twist the doctrine of grace. If your desire is to stay on track with God and to stay rooted in His Word, then this is a series you will need to hear again and again so you can get these truths deep into your heart.

Book excerpt: The Bible commands Christians to "contend earnestly for the faith once for all delivered to the saints" (Jude 3). Believers are called by God to rationally defend the Christian faith as we live in a post-Christian era. In this helpful survey, Dr. Fernandes introduces his readers to Christian apologetics, the science of defending the faith. He discusses eight different ways to defend Christianity. Some of the issues in this book include arguments for the existence of God, historical evidences for Jesus, and scientific evidence for God. The author also shows his readers how to respond to adherents of other religions. This book is a must-read for Christians who desire to effectively share and defend their faith with others. Non-believers who are seeking spiritual truth will also benefit from reading this book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no real commendability in a mere resolve. If Christians resolve to do something, and never actually get around to doing it, what good is that? A weak and wobbling resolution in this way, holds in it nothing of real value. But if Christians desire to glorify the living Christ in their kingdom service, then such service does, truly, come in light of biblical resolution. For a true and Spirit-guided resolution to take place, the Christian mind considers many things. All Spirit-filled Christians turn all resolving powers into execution. Having a resolve to do something is a wonderful beginning. It ties two parts of a duty together for the Christian; to resolve and to do. Being resolved as a Christian, sets forth a deliberation of the mind about the thing to be resolved on. No wise Christian will ever resolve to do anything until he has considered the action, and weighed it in the balance of Scripture with himself, and fully debated its necessity and expedience. How might a Christian be resolved in the work of doing good always before God? And in what main categories might resolution take place? In considering a holy resolve, a fixed determination of serving King Jesus, this book will cover five marks: Mark 1: resolved to do great works for the glory of God in everything. Mark 2: resolved to contend for the faith once delivered to the saints. Mark 3: resolved to reject all earthlimindedness. Mark 4: resolved to righteously use the means of grace for further sanctification as Christ prescribes. Mark 5: resolved to continue to do good without growing weary.

This 1919 book serves as a study guide for the Book of Revelation, the Bible's prophetic final chapter. Larkin explains the concepts of the Beast and the False Prophet, the Seven Seals and the Seven Trumpets, and the importance of the Book of Daniel in understanding the Rapture. Charts and illustrations depict the "Pale Horse Rider," "Daniel's Four Wild Beasts," "Egyptian Plagues Compared," and more.
