Book Synopsis Silence, the Word and the Sacred by : E.D. Blodgett
Download or read book Silence, the Word and the Sacred written by E.D. Blodgett and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2010-10-30 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The result of a dialogue between poets and scholars on the meaning and making of the sacred, this book endeavours to determine how the sacred emerges in sacred script as well as in poetic discourse. It ranges through scholarship in areas as apparently disparate as postmodernism and Buddhism. The perspectives developed are various and without closure, locating the sacred in modes as diverse as patristic traditions, feminist retranslations of biblical texts, and oral and written versions of documents from the world’s religions. The essays cohere in their preoccupation with the crucial role language plays in the creation of the sacred, particularly in the relation that language bears to silence. In their interplay, language does not silence silence by, rather, calls the other as sacred into articulate existence.

Book Synopsis The British Journal of Medical Psychology by :
Download or read book The British Journal of Medical Psychology written by and published by . This book was released on 1921 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The British Journal of Medical Psychology is an international journal with a traditional orientation towards psychodynamic issues. While maintaining a broad theoretical base and insisting upon sound and sensible methodology, its objective is to avoid the more simplistic approaches to psychological science. The Journal aims to bring together the medical and psychological disciplines. Collaborative studies between psychiatrists and psychologists are especially encouraged. Original theoretical and research contributions are invited from the fields of psychodynamic and interpersonal psychology, particularly as they have a bearing upon vulnerability to, adjustment to and recovery from both medical and psychological disorders. The Journal aims to promote theoretical and research developments in the fields of subjective psychological states and dispositions, interpersonal attitudes, behaviour and relationships only if they illustrate unusual forms of psychopathology or innovative forms of therapy which carry important theoretical implications.
Book Synopsis Contemplation and Incarnation by : Christophe F. Potworowski
Download or read book Contemplation and Incarnation written by Christophe F. Potworowski and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2001-11-12 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Relying on both Chenu's previously unpublished materials and his many publications, Christophe Potworowski examines the role of faith and contemplation in the Dominican life and in theology as well as considering the historical and social dimensions of the human situation in terms of individual and ecclesial existence. He discusses the prophetic role of the theologian and some of the problems this involves. Potworowski raises the question of how incarnation as an overall structure is related to the particularities of Christology and provides insights into the development of Catholic theology in the crucial period leading to Vatican II. The accompanying bibliography of Chenu's complete writings, unavailable elsewhere, is a valuable instrument of theological research.
Book Synopsis Jeanne Hyvrard, Wounded Witness by : Helen Vassallo
Download or read book Jeanne Hyvrard, Wounded Witness written by Helen Vassallo and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2007 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critical responses to Jeanne Hyvrard have generally categorised her as a writer of 'écriture féminine' and/or autobiography, due to salient features of her oeuvre such as the use of first-person narrative, a cyclic writing style, and the quest for a 'female' language. Within these broader considerations, however, a recurrent motif throughout Hyvrard's writing is that of the body, specifically the female body, represented as suffering from different forms of physical/mental illness and emotional/social malaise. It is this primordial aspect of Hyvrard's work, on which surprisingly little critical analysis has been written, that this monograph explores. It has been demonstrated that Hyvrard's works can be studied as a unity as well as individually, given that all of her texts form part of her wider theory. While this theory is often referred to in abstract terms as 'pensée ronde', 'pensée globale' or 'pensée-femme', this study shows that it can be more specifically highlighted as a theory of dis(-)ease (i.e. the intertwining of physical malady and social malaise, medical terms and metaphor), and, particularly, as a social theory of the dis(-)eased female body.
