Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Book Summary Dreams, Imagination, & Destiny, A Poetic Journey, is a far-reaching anthology of poetic thought. Lisa Moreno takes her readers on an odyssey through many poetic paradigms. Her first section, Thought Provoking, takes the reader through poetic waters that challenges the reader to think about the world of fantastic possibilities. From Mental Highway to Undisclosed Invasion, you will be held in deep thought and suspense. Her second section, Beyond Space and Time, is simply that. You'll be in a time machine going back to the beginning or continuum of eternity through poetic doorways. You'll go into the farthest reaches of space where time is of no consequence. Timing's Will and Eternity's Door are poems that will ask the reader to stop and ponder concepts generally perceived as beyond scope. What's a book of poetry without a little Humor & Farce? There's a laugh tucked away in each of the poems presented in this section. I'm Still a Size 6 and Smooth and Shiny are two poems that many people can relate to. These poems are intended to have us all laugh at our own distortions and illusions. Primal Instinct is a section that moves the reader into the jungle of sensual cravings. Humanity has animalistic elements to its makeup and enjoys natural hungers. You'll move through the corridors of temptation, lust, and bodily greed. Naked Thirst and Rapture are two poems that will parch the mouth. The next section, Inner Knowing, sweeps you into a vortex of your primordial self and ushers visions of angels and shadows. Proud Tree of Life, Journey and Dancing Angels are just a few of the poems that are food for thought in this section. The Spirit Within, mixes inner convictions and the spirit world. The Source of Life, Your Wish Come True, and Tired of it All play to the inner spirit. Last, but not least, is the section entitled Dissolving Walls. Poignant poetry dealing with racism, bigotry, and poverty are dealt with here. "We, way too often, ignore the lost, downtrodden, homeless people walking our streets." "Inner city gangs have members barely old enough to know any better brandishing dangerous weapons." As well, wars have defined history as being waged primarily over religious conflicts." 1939, Colorblind, Murder in the Street, and Life on Skid Row are some of the wrenching and moving poems in this section. It is the author's attempt to assuage the hatred, anger, and ignorance that divides people. "Dissolving Walls needs to be understood else civilization, as we know it, will just be another chapter in the book of humanity."

Book excerpt: In this rich and poetically written book, Erel Shalit "calls attention to the dream and its images along the nocturnal axis that leads us from fate to destiny." He takes us on a journey from ancient history, beginning with the first documented dream, that of Gilgamesh, to Adam and Eve and the serpent, to Joseph in Egypt as the Pharaoh's dream interpreter, through ancient Greece to the Asklepion, to Swedenborg's visions, to our world today through the eyes of Freud, Jung, and science, and finally to the process of active imagination to reveal the workings of Mercurius and the transcendent function. As Dr. Shalit moves between cultures, he adds historical accounts of the many customs of working with dreams--our long history of how humans have paid close attention to this constant phenomenon for thousands of years. Scattered throughout the pages are engaging stories, legends, myths, and the roots of words that take meaning deeper. The chapters include dreams--historical dreams and the dreams of his patients. He works them, showing us how to squeeze the precious liquid from each one that can lead to a resolution of opposites and a state of understanding so profound--and sometimes so simple--that we witness how wholeness emerges from the psyche through this process. This accessible book is a reminder of the foundational work that leads to our greater consciousness and a destiny well-lived. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 20th-anniversary edition of Kelley’s influential history of 20th-century Black radicalism, with new reflections on current movements and their impact on the author, and a foreword by poet Aja Monet First published in 2002, Freedom Dreams is a staple in the study of the Black radical tradition. Unearthing the thrilling history of grassroots movements and renegade intellectuals and artists, Kelley recovers the dreams of the future worlds Black radicals struggled to achieve. Focusing on the insights of activists, from the Revolutionary Action Movement to the insurgent poetics of Aimé and Suzanne Césaire, Kelley chronicles the quest for a homeland, the hope that communism offered, the politics of surrealism, the transformative potential of Black feminism, and the long dream of reparations for slavery and Jim Crow. In this edition, Kelley includes a new introduction reflecting on how movements of the past 20 years have expanded his own vision of freedom to include mutual care, disability justice, abolition, and decolonization, and a new epilogue exploring the visionary organizing of today’s freedom dreamers. This classic history of the power of the Black radical imagination is as timely as when it was first published.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do we go about imagining different and better worlds for ourselves? Collective Dreams looks at ideals of community, frequently embraced as the basis for reform across the political spectrum, as the predominant form of political imagination in America today. Examining how these ideals circulate without having much real impact on social change provides an opportunity to explore the difficulties of practicing critical theory in a capitalist society. Different chapters investigate how ideals of community intersect with conceptions of self and identity, family, the public sphere and civil society, and the state, situating community at the core of the most contested political and social arenas of our time. Ideals of community also influence how we evaluate, choose, and build the spaces in which we live, as the author’s investigations of Celebration, Florida, and of West Philadelphia show.Following in the tradition of Walter Benjamin, Keally McBride reveals how consumer culture affects our collective experience of community as well as our ability to imagine alternative political and social orders. Taking ideals of community as a case study, Collective Dreams also explores the structure and function of political imagination to answer the following questions: What do these oppositional ideals reveal about our current political and social experiences? How is the way we imagine alternative communities nonetheless influenced by capitalism, liberalism, and individualism? How can these ideals of community be used more effectively to create social change?

She doesn't believe in destiny the way her acquaintances and her family does, and decides that the dream means nothing. While navigating a particularly difficult relationship with her family and uncovering their lies, Sandy attempts to make her way through life without giving credence to her dream. As time goes on, she sees more and more signs that her dream is real, and that she needs to follow the signs to find out the answer to the questions in the dream. She stumbles adventurously through life in a Forrest Gumpian fashion for many years, trying to sidestep the signs in her dream. Eventually, she gives in and makes her move to unravel the dream and find out what her vision of her destiny really means. The Destiny Dream is a period specific (1980's and 1990's) story with a lot of international and mystical action and adventure that is a great read for most ages and a great book to carry along to the beach this summer.

The only way to modify your current life expression if you are unhappy with it is to shift your focus from what you perceive to be so real and become more mindful of what you want to be. You cannot serve two masters, so shifting your focus from one consciousness state to another means letting go of one and embracing the other. Nothing comes into being or keeps existing on its own. Events arise as a result of relatively stable imaginal activities, and they only remain in existence for the duration of this support.

Whether one's goal is understanding the permeability of traditions and modernities or the changing shape of religious imagination and thought in one of the most pivotal countries of the Middle East, this book is an outstanding point of departure."—Dale F. Eickelman, author of The Middle East and Central Asia: An Anthropological Approach, 4th ed. "Dreams That Matter is an insightful and well-crafted study of the practice of dreaming in contemporary Egypt. Mittermaier provides a superb analysis of the imaginative repertoires of Islamic traditions and shows how the dream has remained not only a site of Muslim scholarly interest, but an important part of the way ordinary Muslims encounter and engage with the divine."—Charles Hirschkind, author of Powers of the Secular Modern: Talal Asad and His Interlocutors "Amira Mittermaier has given us the most complete anthropological study of dream culture in the Middle East—perhaps in any culture. It is a sensitive, intellectually challenging, indeed a courageous, investigation of the psychological, ontological, and ethical assumptions that lie behind dreams, visions, and dream-visitations in contemporary Egypt—where the dream is a vibrant site of political, religious, and interpretive contest. Dreams That Matter will rank among the most important contributions to the anthropology of the imagination for years to come."—Vincent Crapanzano, author of The Harkis: The Wound That Never Heals
