Download or read book Base Realignment and Closure Cleanup Plan written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Cleanup Plan (BCP) describes the status, management and response strategy, and action items related to Cameron Station's ongoing environmental restoration and associated compliance programs. These programs support full - restoration of the installation property, which is necessary to meet the requirements for property disposal and reuse activities associated with the closure of the installation. The scope of the BCP considers the following regulatory mechanisms: the BRAC Act; National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA); Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) as amended by the Community Environmental Response Facilitation Act (CERFA); Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA); and other applicable laws. The Cameron Station BCP is a dynamic planning document which was developed by a BRAC Cleanup Team (BCT) consisting of U.S. Army, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region III (USEPA), and State of Virginia Department 9f Environmental Quality (VDEQ) representatives. It was necessary to make certain assumptions and interpretations to develop the schedule and cost estimates provided in this plan. The BCP will be updated regularly to reflect the current status and strategies of remedial actions, compliance programs and disposal and reuse planning. This document is the second in a series of updates/modifications and represents conditions and strategies as of January 1995.
Book Synopsis Biodiversity and Environmental Conservation by : Justice Ross & Roberto Adkins
Download or read book Biodiversity and Environmental Conservation written by Justice Ross & Roberto Adkins and published by Scientific e-Resources. This book was released on 2018-10-09 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biodiversity is the variety of all the genes, species and ecosystems which are found on our planet. It provides humanity with the cornucopia of goods and services, from food, energy and materials to the genes which protect our crops and cure our diseases. The loss of the earth's biological diversity is one of the most pressing environmental and development issues. Sustainability highlights the idea that the current use of natural resources should not diminish the options of future generations, and maintaining biodiversity is clearly one of the requirements for meeting this goal. Biodiversity conservation addresses the remarkable growth in concern at all levels for living things and the environment, and increased appreciation of the links between the state of ecosystems and the state of humankind. Building on a wealth of research and analysis by the conservation community worldwide, this book provides a comprehensive and accessible view of key global issues in biodiversity. It outlines some of the broad ecological relationships between humans and the rest of the material world and summaries information on the health of the planet. Biodiversity is beneficial to the local environment, and can also be a natural form of crop protection. In conventional agriculture, biodiversity is often eliminated by planting large tracts of fields with a single crop, and killing other species with herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, and fungicides. In the absence of biodiversity, the arrival of a single species can significantly affect crop production, and conventional farmers counter this with chemical killing agents that damage the environmental health of the area. Conservation is the protection, preservation, management, or restoration of wildlife and natural resources such as forests and water. Through the conservation of biodiversity and the survival of many species and habitats which are threatened due to human activities can be ensured. There is an urgent need, not only to manage and conserve the biotic wealth, but also restore the degraded ecosystems. This book will definitely serve as an excellent reference material and practical guide for teachers, research workers, students and environmentalists.

Book Synopsis The United Nations Programme on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice by : Matti Joutsen
Download or read book The United Nations Programme on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice written by Matti Joutsen and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-06-28 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book documents the evolution of the United Nations (UN) Crime Programme and its changing priorities, from the early focus on juvenile delinquency and correctional treatment, to the present preoccupation with transnational organized crime. It analyses what factors have contributed to this evolution, and to the shift from the original work on “soft law” resolutions and international standards, to “hard law” conventions, and to the expansion of technical assistance. It also examines the changing structure and working methods of the Programme, such as the UN Crime Commission and the UN Secretariat unit responsible for the Programme, the UN Crime Congresses, and the Programme Network Institutes. Drawing on almost 50 years of experience on the “inside” of the UN Crime Programme and his hands-on knowledge of the working of governmental and intergovernmental processes, Matti Joutsen explores the transitions that have taken place in the UN Crime Programme over the seven decades of its existence, assesses the changing impact of the Programme, and suggests possible future directions in international cooperation in crime prevention and criminal justice. An accessible and compelling read, this book will appeal to students and scholars of criminology, sociology, politics, criminal justice, policy makers, and those interested in the evolution of the UN Crime Programme.

Download or read book Marxism and Religion written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-02-27 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Marxism and Religion leading Chinese scholars unfold before our eyes theoretical explorations of religion in present-day China. In addition, they along with senior cadres superintending religious affairs strenuously explain why the Marxist view of religion still has relevance to living religions in a country undergoing deep changes unleashed by the late paramount leader Deng Xiaoping’s reform and opening-up policies. Mistakenly perceived by so many westerners as outdated and dogmatic quasi-scholarly work in the service of communist regime’s propaganda, studies selected here are brainchildren of a group of creative and reform-minded scholars and cadres who endeavor to uphold Marxist traditions while innovatively sinicizing them, hoping that their efforts will contribute to the ruling party’s ideological reconstruction. Contributors include: Fang Litian, Gao Shining, Gong Xuezeng, He Qimin, Jin Ze, Li Xiangping, Lü Daji, Wang Xiaochao, Wang Zuo’an, Ye Xiaowen, Zhu Xiaoming, and Zhuo Xinping.
