Download or read book The Divine Dance written by Richard Rohr and published by SPCK. This book was released on 2016-10-28 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Divine Dance has become a classic for fans of Richard Rohr and an important book on Christian mysticism, it provides a fresh perspective for anyone studying or teaching the trinity. The Trinity is the central doctrine of Christianity, but it is still widely considered a mystery we won't ever fully understand. Should we still try to understand it, even so? If we could, how would it transform our relationship with God? In this stimulating and thought-provoking book, internationally recognised teacher Richard Rohr explores the nature of God and the paradoxical idea of the Holy Trinity as both three and one. With clear, surefooted wisdom, he encourages us to build on the early Christian understanding of the relationship between Father, Son and Spirit as a flow and dance - a Divine Dance - that we are invited to join in. An engaging, accessible look at the nature of God, The Divine Dance will challenge the way you think about the Trinity and give you a much fuller understanding of the triune relationship that is at the heart of Christian doctrine. It will leave you with a faith that is renewed and strengthened, and show you how you can engage more deeply in your relationship with God and the world through the Trinity.

Download or read book True Life in God written by Vassula Ryden and published by Alexian. This book was released on 2013-05-24 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is there life after death? Are we living in the last days? Is there a heaven and hell? Does everything happen for a reason? If God is good, why does he allow suffering? Following a profound spiritual experience in 1985 Vassula Ryden commenced a dialogue with God that continues to this day. All of these conversations have been recorded in hand written journals which are now reproduced as a single printed volume. The message that Vassula brings is that God is calling all of humanity to turn our hearts back to Him before a time of justice comes upon us and the world undergoes trials and purifications. Jesus is returning, but it may not be the way we think.
Book Synopsis The End of the Timeless God by : R. T. Mullins
Download or read book The End of the Timeless God written by R. T. Mullins and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-01-07 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The claim that God is timeless has been the majority view throughout church history. However, it is not obvious that divine timelessness is compatible with fundamental Christian doctrines such as creation and incarnation. Theologians have long been aware of the conflict between divine timelessness and Christian doctrine, and various solutions to these conflicts have been developed. In contemporary thought, it is widely agreed that new theories on the nature of time can further help solve these conflicts. Do these solutions actually solve the conflict? Can the Christian God be timeless? The End of the Timeless God sets forth a thorough investigation into the Christian understanding of God and the God-world relationship. It argues that the Christian God cannot be timeless.
Download or read book Divine Sex written by Jonathan Grant and published by Brazos Press. This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The digital revolution has ushered in a series of sexual revolutions, all contributing to a perfect storm for modern relationships. Online dating, social media, internet pornography, and the phenomenon of the smartphone generation have created an avalanche of change with far-reaching consequences for sexuality today. The church has struggled to address this new moral ecology because it has focused on clarity of belief rather than quality of formation. The real challenge for spiritual formation lies in addressing the underlying moral intuitions we carry subconsciously, which are shaped by the convictions of our age. In this book, a fresh new voice offers a persuasive Christian vision of sex and relationships, calling young adults to faithful discipleship in a hypersexualized world. Drawing from his pastoral experience with young people and from cutting-edge research across multiple disciplines, Jonathan Grant helps Christian leaders understand the cultural forces that make the church's teaching on sex and relationships ineffective in the lives of today's young adults. He also sets forth pastoral strategies for addressing the underlying fault lines in modern sexuality.
Book Synopsis Disturbing Divine Behavior by : Eric A. Seibert
Download or read book Disturbing Divine Behavior written by Eric A. Seibert and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How should we understand biblical texts where God is depicted as acting irrationally, violently, or destructively? If we distance ourselves from disturbing portrayals of God, how should we understand the authority of Scripture? How does the often wrathful God portrayed in the Old Testament relate to the God of love proclaimed in the New Testament? Is that contrast even accurate? Disturbing Divine Behavior addresses these perennially vexing questions for the student of the Bible. Eric A. Seibert calls for an engaged and discerning reading of the Old Testament that distinguishes the particular literary and theological goals achieved through narrative characterizations of God from the rich understanding of the divine to which the Old Testament as a whole points. Providing illuminating reflections on theological reading as well, this book will be a welcome resource for any readers who puzzle over disturbing representations of God in the Bible.
Book Synopsis The Collected Works of Edward Schillebeeckx Volume 2 by : Edward Schillebeeckx
Download or read book The Collected Works of Edward Schillebeeckx Volume 2 written by Edward Schillebeeckx and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2014-09-25 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In effect Revelation and Theology is Schillebeeckx's general introduction to theology. Its fifteen chapters were originally published separately between 1954 and 1962, but the thematic collection offers a vivid picture of the theological renewal in the wake of World War II. Schillebeeckx's erudition and broad scholarly orientation are clearly demonstrated in this volume. Throughout there are pointers to the (at that time new) ecumenical approach to Scripture and tradition. The problem concerning the function of the scholastic tradition is highlighted. Although Schillebeeckx draws extensively on Thomas Aquinas's thinking, this early work already shows that he is not a (neo)Thomist in the narrow sense of the word. Unlike the single Dutch volume, the English version was published in two volumes. In the Collected works of Edward Schillebeeckx, however, here they are published together in the sequence that the author envisaged.

Book Synopsis The Art of Home Bible Study by : James Glover
Download or read book The Art of Home Bible Study written by James Glover and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-02-15 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written for church laypersons with the purpose of aiding those who wish to become at least beginning novice of learned biblical knowledge and interpretation on their own, in order not to be primarily dependent upon others to disclose the biblical message to them. For too long, ministers have allowed the laity to rely primarily on Sunday school curriculum materials alone, or other canned (preprinted Bible study programs) to enable the biblical message to come alive in their lives. This is not a criticism of the curriculum materials in question, but the dependency upon them which result in a form of stunted biblical growth in the word of God. When the Bible admonishes us to study to show thyself approved unto GodRIGHTLY dividing the Word of truth (2Timothy 2:15), how do we respond without a method of study as individuals on our own? If Christian education functions as it should, we need to produce people who are growing in the knowledge and wisdom of the word, moving from being BABES of the word fed with milk, to becoming adults in the word, being able to digest the meat of sound doctrine, as the apostle Paul admonishes us to become. This should enable us to become at least semi-dependent learners and critical biblical thinkers, and not merely receptacles of information fed to us about the word of God!
