This book was released on 2021-06-22 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The probing and modeling of carrier transport in materials is a fundamental research subject in electronics and materials science. According to the Maxwell electromagnetic field theory, there are two kinds of currents, i.e., conduction current and Maxwell displacement current (MDC). The conduction current flows when electronic charges, e.g., electrons and holes, are conveyed in solids, whereas MDC is the transient current that is generated due to the change of electric flux density. The source of conductive current is charged particles, i.e., electrons, holes, ions, etc., and the source of MDC is also the charged particles. It is therefore anticipated that we can probe and model carrier transport in materials, in terms of 'MDC'. In other words, we can find a novel way for modeling and analyzing materials on the basis of Dielectric Physics Approach, on focusing dielectric polarization phenomena. Maxwell Displacement Current and Optical Second-Harmonic Generation are basically dielectric phenomena. The aim of this book is to show the dielectric physics approach for the study of molecular materials and organic electronics devices related to carrier transport and dielectric polarization, on focusing Maxwell Displacement Current and Optical Second-Harmonic Generation in Organic Materials from viewpoints of Analysis and Application for Organic Electronics.

Book excerpt: Measuring the mechanical properties of human soft tissue is a current topic in the field of diagnostic ultrasound research. Long before ultrasound was used in medical diagnosis, palpation was the important clinical examination method, and was practiced by the ancient Egyptians about 5000 years ago. Palpation is still one of the standard examination methods performed in the modern diagnosis for the detection of inter alia breast and prostate abnormalities, because the change of the pathological state of tissue is often correlated with changes in stiffness; in particular some malignant tumors are significantly stiffer and less mobile than surrounding healthy tissue. However, the use of conventional imaging techniques such as, computer tomography, magnet resonance tomography and ultrasound, for the medical diagnosis is not directly able to measure the mechanical properties of tissue. In this work, a new imaging modality was developed which can be additionally used for the careful assessment of tumors in different soft tissues. This novel modality was named reconstructive ultrasound elastography, which is regarded as an objective imaging method not limited to small deformations and complements the manual palpation procedure for medical diagnostics. In order to obtain noninvasively quantitative mechanical properties of tissue, we proposed a new algorithm by which the spatial distribution of the relative shear modulus of tissue can be estimated from the measured deformation. From the measured displacement field the relative shear modulus distribution in the examined object can be determined in the sense of an ill-posed inverse problem. Due to the existing large deformations an algorithm wasdeveloped for the solution of the inverse problem on the basis of the nonlinear elasticity theory. The efficiency of the developed algorithm was shown using samples of poly vinyl alcohol phantoms, as well as in vivo data computed from prostate-cancer cases and compared to the histology data.

Book Synopsis High-Speed Range Estimation Based on Intensity Gradient Analysis by : Kurt D. Skifstad
Download or read book High-Speed Range Estimation Based on Intensity Gradient Analysis written by Kurt D. Skifstad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fast and reasonably accurate perception of the environment is essential for successful navigation of an autonomous agent. Although many modes of sensing are applicable to this task and have been used, vision remains the most appealing due to its passive nature, good range, and resolution. Most vision techniques to recover depth for navigation use stereo. In the last few years, researchers have started studying techniques to combine stereo with the motion of the camera. Skifstad's dissertation proposes a new approach to recover depth information using known camera motion. This approach results in a robust technique for fast estimation of distances to objects in an image using only one translating camera. A very interesting aspect of the approach pursued by Skifstad is the method used to bypass the most difficult and computationally expensive step in using stereo or similar approaches for the vision-based depth esti mation. The correspondence problem has been the focus of research in most stereo approaches. Skifstad trades the correspondence problem for the known translational motion by using the fact that it is easier to detect single pixel disparities in a sequence of images rather than arbitrary disparities after two frames. A very attractive feature of this approach is that the computations required to detect single pixel disparities are local and hence can be easily parallelized. Another useful feature of the approach, particularly in naviga tion applications, is that the closer objects are detected earlier.

Book Synopsis Displacement by Development by : Peter Penz
Download or read book Displacement by Development written by Peter Penz and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-01-20 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades, policy-makers in government, development banks and foundations, NGOs, researchers and students have struggled with the problem of how to protect people who are displaced from their homes and livelihoods by development projects. This book addresses these concerns and explores how debates often become deadlocked between 'managerial' and 'movementist' perspectives. Using development ethics to determine the rights and responsibilities of various stakeholders, the authors find that displaced people must be empowered so as to share equitably in benefits rather than being victimized. They propose a governance model for development projects that would transform conflict over displacement into a more manageable collective bargaining process and would empower displaced people to achieve equitable results. Their book will be valuable for readers in a wide range of fields including ethics, development studies, politics and international relations as well as policy making, project management and community development.
Book Synopsis An Assessment of Current Capability for Computer Analysis of Shell Structures by : Richard F. Hartung
Download or read book An Assessment of Current Capability for Computer Analysis of Shell Structures written by Richard F. Hartung and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report contains an assessment of current shell analysis capability. The assessment is based on work conducted at the Lockheed Palo Alto Research Laboratory under contract to the Air Force Flight Dynamics Laboratory. In addition to surveying the open literature, information for the study was gathered during a series of visits made to organizations throughout the United States at which there is an active shell analysis research effort. More than 40 industrial concerns, government agencies and universities have been visited to date. During each visit, technical personnel working in the area of shell analysis were interviewed to determine the scope of their present analysis capability, to learn of current research activities and to discuss computer methods of shell analysis in general. Information so obtained is summarized in a series of briefs which appear in the Appendix of this report.
