Book excerpt: Millville, the small town where I'd grown up and lived for the past twenty-one years, had nothing interesting about it other than the dusty scarecrow in Creepy Ned's field. That might have been why I didn't have any aspirations of a noteworthy life in my future. After I landed a scholarship overseas, I learned that Ryevick University had more to it than pretty buildings, and a happening student life. It was full of secrets that only curious people who paid attention to it might discover. Tales of Demons walking among us, taking human form, and wanting to claim this world for their leaders abounded. With the law of free will holding back the angels from interceding on humanity's behalf, they had to come up with a plan to stop the evil. So they created the Elementi, or more specifically, Elementi Warriors. Blessed knights, each gifted with an elemental power to fight the demons and keep everyone safe. But as with every gift, or exchange, there is fine print. The warriors must remain pure and diligent to their calling if they were to receive the ultimate weapon in the time of humanity's great need. This promised weapon, that has the ability to defeat the demons, was dubbed Synergy- the highest power known to men and heaven alike. But over the years, as the knights search for it, they've started to question what if Synergy isn't just a weapon at all? At least, that's how the legend goes...

The "Manor" boys are at the top of every girl's wish list, therefore making Lailah a target of their schoolgirl jealousy. Book excerpt: Alexa Tsoulis-Reay's Finding Normal is an author's up close tour of people who are using the Internet to challenge the boundaries of what's taboo and what it means to be normal. Finding Normal explores how people are using the internet to find community, forge connections, and create identity in ways that challenge a variety of sexual norms. Based on a highly candid interview series conducted for New York magazine's human science column—"What It's Like"—each story in Finding Normal intimately immerses the reader in the world of a person who is grappling with a unique set of circumstances relating to sexuality. Finding Normal at once celebrates the power of our evolving media landscape for helping people rewrite the script for their lives and offers a wanring about the danger of that seemingly limitless freedom. Tsoulis-Reay shows the enduring power of the search for belonging—for humans and society. Like happiness of life purpose, finding normal is perhaps the definitive human struggle.

In this refreshing book, Julie Schmidt Hasson and Laura Estes-Swilley provide 185 brief stories shared by former students about their most impactful teachers. With a different story for every day of the school year, the authors illuminate the many ways teachers shape students’ lives. You can use them to set your intention for the day, to reflect on your teaching in the evening, or to infuse meetings and professional development with encouragement and affirmation. Hasson and Estes-Swilley concisely unpack each story and pose questions to help you consider the meaning it holds for your own work. While the stories themselves are inspirational, they also provide models to help you make a greater (and more consistent) impact on your students’ lives. Through these daily reflections, you’ll have the space to contemplate your practice and consider new perspectives and possibilities. With regular reflection, you can find greater satisfaction in teaching, particularly during challenging times. And as you grow, you'll have more capacity to help your students grow, too.

Book excerpt: This book provides an up-to-date study of the fundamental facets of supporting information technologies: organisation and people, data and information, presentation of information, and process. To improve the effective use of human resources, it is necessary to capture the structure of an organisation and the knowledge of people within the organisation. Data can be processed to produce new information by either inferring hidden implications or summarising a large volume of information into more manageable information units. Information may also be required to be presented using different perspectives so as to meet individual needs and at the same time reinforce policy on data access rights. Routing of information and job tasks is paramount in ensuring that all necessary steps are taken for a given job. These complementary aspects are explored throughout the volume. The book is a selection of papers presented at the Industrial Session of the 9th IFIP 2.6 Working Conference on Database Semantics. It will be of significant value to researchers, teachers, students and practitioners. The scope embraces design methodology, implementation techniques, and applications development. Specific topics include knowledge management, intelligent enterprises, query transformation, information sharing and retrieval, data warehousing, and knowledge discovery.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Materials have the potential to be the centrepiece for the transition to viable renewable energy technologies if they realise a specific suite of properties and achieve a desired set of performance metrics. The envisioned transition involves the discovery of materials that enable generation, conversion, storage, transmission, and utilization of renewable energy. This book presents, through the eye of materials chemistry, an umbrella view of the myriad of classes of materials that make renewable energy technologies work. They are poised to facilitate the transition of non-renewable and unsustainable energy systems of the past into renewable and sustainable energy systems of the future. It is a story that often begins in chemistry laboratories with the discovery of new energy materials. Yet, to displace materials in existing energy technologies with new ones, depends not only on the ability to design and engineer a superior set of performance metrics for the material and the technology but also the requirement to meet a demanding collection of economic, regulatory, social, policy, environmental and sustainability criteria. Disruption in the traditional way of discovering materials is coming with the emergence of artificial intelligence, machine learning and robotic automation designed to accelerate the well-established discovery process, massive libraries of materials can be evaluated and the possibilities are endless. This book provides a perspective on the application of these new technologies to this field as well as an overview of energy materials discovery in the broader techno-economic and social context. Any budding researcher or more experienced materials scientist will find a guide to a fascinating story of discovery and emerge with a vision of what is next.

This book was released on 2023-10-24 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A written companion and workbook for readers seeking to reclaim their bodies as home in healing from sexual trauma. Body rites as a holistic healing journey, anchored in the practice of decolonizing healing and reclaiming body sovereignty, reaches back into indigenous roots and land-based healing. It centers remembering as a means of survival. This workbook is the first of its kind: a resource of rituals divided into four healing journeys for Black women, femmes, and nonbinary survivors of sexual assault. The experiential workbook moves beyond prescriptive self-help models by providing a gentle guide and liaison to explore the impact of sexual trauma on the mind, body, heart, and spirit. It is an invitation to heal holistically, drawing upon psychophysiology, lived body wisdom, trauma-informed embodiment practices, kinship and ancestral connections, and African spiritual practices. Most urgently, this book is a series of intimate conversations with your “self”; and remembrance that healing lives at the core of your intuition.
