Book excerpt: One in seven working-age adults identifies as having a disability in OECD countries, a share that is also substantial and growing among young people (8% in 2019). Many of them are excluded from meaningful work and have low levels of income and social engagement. This report documents the current labour market situation of people with disability, who continue to face large employment, unemployment and poverty gaps compared with people without disability. The report concludes that the goal set up some twenty years ago of making disability policies pro-active and employment-oriented has not been achieved. In particular, key areas of disability policy have received too little attention so far, such as policies to support young people with disability, improve the skills of people with disability, and intervene early in the course of a health problem or disability. The report calls for rigorous disability mainstreaming in all relevant policies and practices as the missing link to better labour market inclusion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The issue of mental health at work has become a hot topic in both the popular media and academic writings. Although job stress and mental ill-health are associated with negative outcomes for individuals, teams, and organizations, there has been some suggestion that changing the work environment and creating healthy workplaces can improve worker health. Much of the current works in the general of health is fractured, coming from a variety of disciplines and perspectives without an organizing framework to help guide research and practice in the area. Having this individualized, compartmentalized perspective constrains our ability to fully understand the scope of the issue, the key factors in supporting or detracting from one’s mental health, and interventions focusing on mental health at work. Given the importance of understanding mental health at work and the current lack of coverage on workplace mental health, there is a need for a book to provide a holistic overview of the issue targeting the environmental, individual, and group influences of mental health and well-being, as well as the impact on individuals and workplaces. This handbook provides a conceptual framework for examining these issues. Each chapter offers an in-depth examination of the key facets of mental health at work, focusing both on the seminal and current literature on the topic and practical suggestions for best practices for organizations. With contributions from leading experts, authors address the state-of-the-art research and integrate current events that are shaping the way we work and our wellbeing at work. This edited collection will be of interest to researchers, academics, policymakers, and advanced students in the fields of human resource management, organizational psychology, and management.

Book excerpt: Companies in developing countries are adopting Artificial Intelligence applications to increase efficiency and open new markets for their products. This book explores the multifarious capabilities and applications of AI in the context of these emerging economies and its role as a driver for decision making in current management practices. Artificial Intelligence Enabled Management argues that the economic problems facing academics, professionals, managers, governments, businesses and those at the bottom of the economic pyramid have a technical solution that relates to AI. Businesses in developing countries are using cutting-edge AI-based solutions to improve autonomous delivery of goods and services, implement automation of production and develop mobile apps for services and access to credit. By integrating data from websites, social media and conventional channels, companies are developing data management platforms, good business plans and creative business models. By increasing productivity, automating business processes, financial solutions and government services, AI can drive economic growth in these emerging economies. Public and private sectors can work together to find innovative solutions that simultaneously alleviate poverty and inequality and increase economic mobility and prosperity. The thought-provoking contributions in this book also bring attention to new barriers that have emerged in the acceptance, use, integration and deployment of AI by businesses in developing countries and explore the often-overlooked drawbacks of AI adoption that can hinder or even cause value loss. The book is a must-read for policymakers, researchers, and anyone interested in understanding the critical role of AI in the emerging economy perspective.
