Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Work is constantly reshaped by technological progress. New ways of production are adopted, markets expand, and societies evolve. But some changes provoke more attention than others, in part due to the vast uncertainty involved in making predictions about the future. The 2019 World Development Report will study how the nature of work is changing as a result of advances in technology today. Technological progress disrupts existing systems. A new social contract is needed to smooth the transition and guard against rising inequality. Significant investments in human capital throughout a person’s lifecycle are vital to this effort. If workers are to stay competitive against machines they need to train or retool existing skills. A social protection system that includes a minimum basic level of protection for workers and citizens can complement new forms of employment. Improved private sector policies to encourage startup activity and competition can help countries compete in the digital age. Governments also need to ensure that firms pay their fair share of taxes, in part to fund this new social contract. The 2019 World Development Report presents an analysis of these issues based upon the available evidence.

At the same time there have been incredible advances in digitization. We are amid a digital revolution with unprecedented innovations. The pandemic has accelerated the requirements for "Digital Transformation." Organizations need to adopt and transform to survive and hopefully thrive. At the core of digitization there is very much an underlying principle of "debt." It comes originally from what Is called "technical debt." Simply, technical debt “reflects the implied cost of additional rework caused by choosing an easy solution now instead of using a better approach that would take longer.” Difficult transformative choices need to be made now - especially post-COVID-19. If an organization ignores digital transformation for "easy solutions", the "debt" accumulates and can have disastrous consequences. The pandemic has accelerated the accumulation of digital transformation debt! It has also provided an opportunity to thrive in the post-COVID-19 era. What does Digital Transformation mean? What are the opportunities? What are the core digital technologies? What are the best practices? What are practical recommendations to alleviate the Digital Transformation Debt!? This book addresses Digital Transformation Debt holistically and makes recommendations on how to alleviate the debt.

Book excerpt: We develop a simple model of digital markets to analyze the impact of Covid-19 on the digital transformation of sectors. The lockdown due to Covid-19 is modeled as a shock that wipes out the physical market, temporarily leaving digital consumption as the only option. Under plausible assumptions on digital demand and supply, the model predicts that such temporary shock produces an irreversible rise of the digital markets. This happens for three distinct reasons. First, by temporarily eliminating the physical market, Covid-19 provides a strong incentive for firms to carry out the fixed investments necessary to venture into the digital market (supply channel). Secondly, by forcing even the most reluctant consumers into the digital market, Covid-19 pushes them to familiarize with digital platforms, and this confidence endures in the post-Covid era (demand channel). Finally, if consumers' taste for digitalization is affected by the size of the digital market, a market may be entrapped into a low-digital equilibrium indefinitely. In such context, the lockdown due to the pandemic is the shock that may unleash the forces of digitalization and tilt the entire sector towards a high-digital equilibrium (network externalities channel).

This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At present, digitalization in many industries is changing and gradually permeating in all fields of life, of which the digitalization in healthcare has gradually been recognized and entered on the stage. Covid-19 is the biggest "Black Swan Event" in recent years, disrupting the pattern of China and the world. Impacted by Industrial Digitalization Upgrade and the pandemic, the process of digital reform in the healthcare industry has been further accelerated, represented by AI + pharmaceuticals, telecare, and SaaS systems etc.. All these new digital tools and technologies have successively received large amounts of financing in the primary market, and among them, some high-quality enterprises have had successful IPO. Meanwhile, many traditional medical enterprises are also keeping pace with the times through digital transformation, which all indicate the importance of digitalization of medical enterprises. We hope to explore in this paper the factors behind the digital transformation of medical enterprises that have significantly promote the digital reform of enterprises, and whether the factors such as enterprise R&D, enterprise scale, and enterprise digitalization promotion efforts will accelerate the digitalization process. Based on this background, this paper will conduct in-depth research in this direction. First, in the chapters of Research Background and Research Significance, this paper expounds the issues studied in this paper, and points out the relative economic and social significance; and summarizes previous scholars' research in this field, including the application of digital transformation in other industries, the beneficial efforts on business development and the related factors to accelerate the digital transformation of enterprises. Then, it uses relevant theoretical analysis, such as Solow's Neoclassical Growth Model and other theories to explain the issues studied in this paper. At the same time, based on relevant theories and literature review, relevant hypotheses are being put forward. According to the current literature research, we assume that enterprise scale, enterprise R&D, and enterprise financialization level are crucial factors in promoting the process of enterprise digitization. Therefore, this paper collects relevant Annual Reports of all healthcare enterprises on the listing market which have already completed the digitalization or arecurrently undergoing digital transformation in 2020 and 2021 after this pandemic. In this paper, we use the frequency of the core word "digitalization" in the Annual Report as the Explained Variable to measure the process of digital transformation of the enterprises; concurrently, we use Enterprise R&D Level, Enterprise Scale and Enterprise Product Commercialization Level as Explanatory Variables in this paper, and complements the relevant Control Variables to construct a Panel Regression Model. Besides, the Industry Fixed-Effect and Time Fixed-Effect have been used respectively to control the relevant time trend, and the combination of both was called the "Two-Way Fixed-Effect Model". In addition, the research adopts the method of Cluster Robust Standard Error to adjust in the empirical demonstration to reduce the interference of heteroscedasticity. Finally, according to the conclusions verified by the combination of theory and empirical research in this paper, relevant policies and suggestions are included.

Book excerpt: Abstract: This study aimed to investigate the impact of digital transformation (DT) on economic growth in India during the post-pandemic era. The research objectives involved examining the relationship between DT and economic growth, assessing the current level of digital transformation across sectors, identifying key drivers and barriers, exploring the impact on productivity and innovation, and examining the role of DT in enhancing the competitiveness of Indian businesses. Hypotheses were formulated to test positive relationships between DT and economic growth, increased productivity, fostering innovation, and enhancing competitiveness. The research adopted a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis and qualitative insights through surveys and interviews with business leaders, industry experts, and policymakers. The sample consisted of 21 businesses in India, selected using stratified random sampling across different sectors, ensuring a representative and diverse sample for meaningful analysis and generalizability of findings. Quantitative data were analysed using statistical techniques, including regression analysis and descriptive statistics, while qualitative data were analysed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed significant relationships between DT readiness, employee engagement, budget allocation, awareness, integration of digital tools, and anticipated impacts on competitiveness. The study concluded that factors such as employee engagement, budget allocation, awareness, and effective integration of digital tools play a pivotal role in achieving heightened readiness for digital transformation, enabling companies to enhance competitiveness and realize the anticipated benefits of successful digital initiatives. The research sample consistes of 21 businesses in India, selected using stratified random sampling. The businesses are distributed across different sectors, including Manufacturing, with a population size of 500. This technique ensures a representative and diverse sample, allowing for meaningful analysis and generalizability of findings. The analysis of the data revealed several significant conclusions regarding digital transformation readiness and its impact on organizational factors. Firstly, a positive relationship was observed between digital transformation readiness and the anticipated impact on competitiveness, indicating that companies with higher readiness were more likely to expect positive competitive outcomes. Secondly, there was a noteworthy negative correlation between employee resistance and digital transformation readiness, suggesting that companies with lower levels of employee resistance tended to exhibit higher readiness for digital transformation. Additionally, a positive association was found between budget allocation and digital transformation readiness, indicating that companies dedicating a larger budget to digital transformation initiatives were more likely to demonstrate higher readiness in adopting digital technologies. Moreover, a positive correlation was identified between awareness and understanding of digital transformation and readiness, showcasing that companies with a deeper comprehension of digital technologies tended to have higher readiness. Furthermore, a positive relationship existed between digital transformation readiness and the actual adoption of digital technologies, emphasizing that companies with elevated readiness were more inclined to integrate digital technologies into their operations effectively. Lastly, the integration of digital tools was positively associated with digital transformation readiness, with companies proficiently incorporating digital tools demonstrating higher readiness. These findings underscored the pivotal role of factors such as employee engagement, budget allocation, awareness, and the effective integration of digital tools in achieving heightened readiness for digital transformation, enabling companies to enhance competitiveness and realize the anticipated benefits of successful digital initiatives.
