Book Synopsis Some Policy Lessons from Country Applications of the DIG and DIGNAR Models by : Daniel Gurara
Download or read book Some Policy Lessons from Country Applications of the DIG and DIGNAR Models written by Daniel Gurara and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2019-03-18 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past seven years, the DIG and DIGNAR models have complemented the IMF and World Bank debt sustainability framework (DSF) analysis, over 65 country applications. They have provided useful insights in the context of program and surveillance work, based on qualitative and quantitative analysis of the macroeconomic effects of public investment scaling-ups. This paper takes stock of the model applications and extensions, and extract five common policy lessons from the universe of country cases. First, improving public investment efficiency and/or raising the rate of return of public projects raises growth and lowers the risks associated with debt sustainability. Second, prudent and gradual investment scaling-ups are preferable to aggressive front-loaded ones, in terms of private sector crowding-out effects, absorptive capacity constraints, and debt sustainability risks. Third, domestic revenue mobilization helps create fiscal space for investment scaling-ups, by effectively containing public debt surges and their later-on repayments. Fourth, aid smoothens fiscal adjustments associated with public investment increases and may lower the risks of unsustainable debt. Fifth, external savings mitigate Dutch disease macroeconomic effects and serve as fiscal buffers. The paper also discusses how these models were used to estimate the quantitative macro economic effects associated with these lessons.

Book Synopsis Dig Where You Stand by : Sven Lindqvist
Download or read book Dig Where You Stand written by Sven Lindqvist and published by Watkins Media Limited. This book was released on 2023-03-14 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the 45th anniversary of its initial publication in Swedish, Sven Lindqvist's polemic on history, politics and power is finally available in English for the first time. This volume brings Dig Where You Stand, Sven Lindqvist's classic text on history, power and politics, to English-speaking audiences for the first time. First published in 1978, Dig Where You Stand is a rallying cry for workers to become researchers, to follow the money, take on the role as experts on their job, and "dig" out its hidden histories in order to take a vital step towards social and economic transformation. A how-to guide that inspired an entire movement, it makes the case that everyone – not just academics – can learn how to critically and rigorously explore history, especially their own history, and in doing so find a blueprint for how to transform society for the better. In a world where the balance of power is overwhelmingly stacked against the working-class, Dig Where You Stand's manifesto for the empowerment of workers through self-education, historical research and political solidarity is as important and relevant today as it was in 1978.

Book excerpt: Some 40 years ago, I, as a searching, seeking, questioning, mortal started with studying the Bible. The Old and New Testaments. Then, just the New Testament, then just Jesus’ Sayings. I then started to dig back into the New Testament where I found just the sayings of Mary, Joseph, John the Baptist and compared their contents and volume to Just the Sayings of Jesus... What I found led me to continue digging on into the writing letters–Epistles of Paul and Peter, etc. These excavations and Scriptural expose, which some might even call controversial, have been collected into what I call The Great Bible Dig. Dig One of The Great Bible Dig uncovers some interesting questions concerning the Brain, Life and Jesus and allows the reader to ask the question WHY. Download or read book Chicks Dig Fries written by Bob Mathews and published by Andrews McMeel Publishing. This book was released on 2013-02-05 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many women would say that the notion of "clueless men" is as redundant as "cold snow" or "expensive yacht." If that's true, then men everywhere stand to benefit from the clever and lighthearted advice within Chicks Dig Fries: A Guide for Clueless Men. After years of trial-and-error dating, author Bob Mathews shares his hard-fought wisdom in this illustrated guide to what women want most from men. Each tip or insight is paired with comical and quirky illustrations of the things that "chicks dig" most. * Chicks Dig Fries: With honey-mustard or plain old ketchup on the side-doesn't matter. * Chicks Dig Cats: Why? Who knows? They just do. If you despise the wretched creature (the cat, I mean) try to be mean to it only when she's not looking. * Chicks Dig Guys Who Can Play a Musical Instrument: Show her your "artistic" side, even if you suck. * Chicks Dig the Opposite of What We Think: Stop whatever it is you're doing, because whatever it is, it's probably wrong. * Chicks Dig a Guy Who's Nice to Her Friends and Family: Even if you're faking it. (See "Chicks Dig Cats.") For any man who doesn't get the big deal about potpourri; has ever thought, even for a split second, that a woman might want an appliance as a birthday gift; or who believes a "scone" is some kind of hard doughnut, Chicks Dig Fries offers all the help he needs.
Download or read book The Big Dig written by Linda Barnes and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2019-03-05 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Boston PI excavates her city’s buried secrets in this “shrewd . . . smartly told” thriller by the Anthony Award–winning author (The New York Times). Six-foot-tall, redheaded ex-cop and Boston-based private eye Carlotta Carlyle is “the genuine article: a straightforward, funny, thoroughly American mystery heroine” (New York Post). Boston’s largest urban renewal undertaking in modern history draws Carlotta into an undercover gig at the site. It comes at the request of a disgruntled hardhat who suspects the multibillion-dollar project has set off a groundswell of graft, kickbacks, and fraud. The case hasn’t unearthed anything but dirt, so Carlotta is tempted into moonlighting on another: a Beacon Street socialite who’s deeply concerned about her vanishing tenant, a dog groomer named Veronica James. Since there’s no possible way Veronica would run off without her beloved Norwegian wolfhound, Carlotta’s suspicions are definitely aroused. And when her big-dig informant falls to his death in a highly dubious accident, Carlotta’s torn between two disparate investigations: an unlikely kidnapping and a likely murder . . . Until they begin to converge, “and watching Carlotta tease out their deep, disturbing connections is pure pleasure” (Kirkus Reviews). The Big Dig is the 9th book in the Carlotta Carlyle Mysteries, but you may enjoy reading the series in any order.
