Auf der einen Seite findet man die Lehrperson. Diese sollte über ein umfangreiches Fachwissen verfügen. Ihre Aufgabe ist es nun, dieses Wissen weiter zu geben. Auf der anderen Seite findet man die Schülerschaft, die Zielpersonen des Unterrichts. Sie stellen zu Beginn die noch Unwissenden dar, denen der Lernstoff näher gebracht werden soll. Ziel des Unterrichts ist es, den Schülern einen Einblick in die verschiedenen Fachbereiche zu geben und diese auf die Zukunft vorzubereiten. Nun ist es aber zum Großteil von der Lehrperson abhängig, wie der Stoff vermittelt bzw. weitergegeben wird. Ob er die Schüler erreicht, diese etwas lehrt und so auf das spätere Leben vorbereitet, oder aber ob der Unterricht an den Schülern vorbei zieht, ohne dass sie etwas daraus mitnehmen. Wie ist dies zu erklären? Der Lehrer stellt während des Unterrichts die Hauptperson dar. Seine Aufgabe ist es, den Schülern etwas bei zu bringen. Um diese Anforderungen zu erfüllen, müssen jedoch einige Sachen bedacht werden, die zu Beginn häufig nicht in Betracht gezogen werden. Lehrer sein heißt nicht nur vor der Klasse zu stehen und den Stoff runter zu beten. Nein, ganz im Gegenteil. Aus eigener Erfahrung ist bekannt, dass es „gute“ und „schlechte“ Lehrer gibt. Doch woran ist dies fest zu machen? Wie schafft es ein Lehrer die Schüler zu motivieren, den Unterricht spannend zu gestalten? Wie zieht er die Schüler in seinen Bann? Woran zeigt sich, dass ein Lehrer wirklich Spaß am Unterricht hat, sich seines Wissens sicher ist?

Die Körpersprache umfasst jede bewusste oder unbewusste Bewegung eines Körperteils oder des ganzen Körpers, die von einem Menschen benutzt wird, um der Außenwelt Botschaften zu übermitteln. Man bezeichnet Körpersprache auch als nonverbale nonvokale Kommunikation (vgl. dazu 3.2). Was in der Persönlichkeitsforschung und der Verkaufspsychologie schon fast zum Alltagswissen gehört, bekommt in der pädagogischen Ausbildung immer noch zu geringen Wert. Kaum jemand macht sich Gedanken über seine eigene Körpersprache, obwohl diese kontinuierlich produziert wird und großen "Einfluss auf den Lern- und Erziehungsprozess" hat. Selbst erfahrene Lehrer kennen oft weder ihr nonverbales Verhalten, noch dessen Wirkung einzuschätzen. "Vielleicht langweilen sich Generationen von Schülern im Unterricht, weil ihre Lehrer sie nicht wirklich sehen, und weil sich ihre Lehrer nicht darüber im Klaren sind, wie sie selbst nichtverbal wirken" Der Erfolg des Unterrichts hängt in besonderem Maße davon ab, inwieweit es dem Lehrer gelingt, zwischen seiner Verbalsprache und seiner Körpersprache einen Gleichklang zu erzielen. Wenn die Verbalsprache anderes vermittelt als die zeitgleich ausgesandte Körpersprache, können sich die zu übermittelnden Botschaften im harmloseren Fall gegenseitig neutralisieren. Im ungünstigsten Fall erzeugt das auseinanderklaffen von Verbal- und Körpersprache Verunsicherung und Verwirrung bei den Schülern, da sie nicht wissen wie sie die widersprüchlichen Aussagen des Lehrers deuten sollen. While a number of survey articles and sporadic book chapters have appeared on the subject, to the best of my knowledge this book represents the first volume of contributed essays on conjoint analysis. The book re flects not only the geographical diversity of its contributors but also the variety and depth of their topics. The development of conjoint analysis and its application to marketing and business research is noteworthy, both in its eclectic roots (psychometrics, statistics, operations research, economics) and the fact that its development reflects the efforts of a large variety of professionals -academics, market ing research consultants, industry practitioners, and software developers. Reasons for the early success and diffusion of conjoint analysis are not hard to find. First, by the early sixties, precursory psychometric techniques (e.g., multidimensional scaling and correspondence analysis, cluster analy sis, and general multivariate techniques) had already shown their value in practical business research and application. Second, conjoint analysis pro vided a new and powerful array of methods for tackling the important problem of representing and predicting buyer preference judgments and choice behavior-clearly a major problem area in marketing.

It can be described as a set of techniques ideally suited to studying customers’ decision-making processes and determining tradeoffs. Though this book is oriented towards methods and applications of conjoint analysis in marketing, conjoint methods are also applicable for other business and social sciences. After an introduction to the basic ideas of conjoint analysis the book describes the steps involved in designing a ratings-based conjoint study, it covers various methods for estimating partworth functions from preference ratings data, and dedicates a chapter on methods of design and analysis of conjoint-based choice experiments, where choice is measured directly. Chapter 5 describes several methods for handling a large number of attributes. Chapters 6 through 8 discuss the use of conjoint analysis for specific applications like product and service design or product line decisions, product positioning and market segmentation decisions, and pricing decisions. Chapter 9 collates miscellaneous applications of marketing mix including marketing resource allocation or store location decisions. Finally, Chapter 10 reviews more recent developments in experimental design and data analysis and presents an assessment of future developments.
