Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book The Sociology of Space written by Martina Löw and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-09 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the author develops a relational concept of space that encompasses social structure, the material world of objects and bodies, and the symbolic dimension of the social world. Löw’s guiding principle is the assumption that space emerges in the interplay between objects, structures and actions. Based on a critical discussion of classic theories of space, Löw develops a new dynamic theory of space that accounts for the relational context in which space is constituted. This innovative view on the interdependency of material, social, and symbolic dimensions of space also permits a new perspective on architecture and urban development.
Book Synopsis Children in Painting by : Marie-Christine Autin Graz
Download or read book Children in Painting written by Marie-Christine Autin Graz and published by Skira. This book was released on 2002 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the same way Caravaggio was the inspiration behind "Jewels in Painting," so Fra Angelico is the starting point for "Children in Painting." It was while I was looking at his "Last Judgement" in the convent of San Marco in Florence that two child angels filled me with happiness. They are meeting in Paradise and embrace with tenderness before entering the dance of eternal happiness. They make you believe in true love. Fra Angelico is divine but is a child so? From the day of his birth until the age of ten, one might believe so. This is the reason why no child over ten features in this book. Having a child is a universal desire. A child is life, a child is love. Having to choose amongst an infinite number of pictures, I have attempted to select the most representative ones in Italian, German, Dutch, Flemish, Spanish, English, American, Swiss and French painting, in which children play, laugh, kiss, cry, eat or sleep. Each of them reveals a masterpiece, in which the artist has exchanged his knowledge for a marvellous innocence. the ordinary becomes extraordinary, truth reveals beauty and beauty reveals truth. This book is as much for adults as it is for children, who will hopefully be encouraged to delve further into the world of art. To understand it is to start loving it: admire it and let yourself be carried away from everyday's routine.

Book Synopsis Children and the Good Life by : Sabine Andresen
Download or read book Children and the Good Life written by Sabine Andresen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-09-21 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In April 2009, an inspiring international conference was held at Bielefeld on the topic "Children and the Good Life: New Challenges for Research on Children." The focus was on how we can define and measure a "good life" for children growing up in the modern world. This tied in with discussions on how convincing universalistic theories are, what research on children can contribute, and how children themselves can be integrated into the research process and debates on the "good life." Discourses and the production of knowledge on the "good life" or "well-being" require a guiding idea or a theoretical frame. This frame can come from the feminist ethic of care or from the Human and Children's Rights Convention, from the idea of welfare, or from the Capability Approach.
Book Synopsis The vulnerable middle class? by : Simone Egger
Download or read book The vulnerable middle class? written by Simone Egger and published by utzverlag GmbH. This book was released on 2019-04-05 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume addresses the question of how the rapidly rising cost of living in prospering cities affects the everyday life and life plans of the middle class. Particularly the depths of focus of a cultural anthropological, ethnographic view of the lived everyday life of people thus facilitates insight and understanding which is missing in certain macro perspectives in the economics and social sciences. Therefore, in the following contributions which are based on examples from Germany and Sweden, colleagues will discuss the question of how members of the middle class deal with residing and living in today’s postmodern cities, which tactics they develop and which strategies become apparent before the background of the processes sketched above. The seven papers originate from the panel “The vulnerable Middle Class? Strategies of housing in a prospering city” which was organized by the two editors at the 13th congress of the Societé Internationale d’Ethnologie et de Folklore 2017 in Göttingen, titled “Ways of Dwelling. Crisis – Craft – Creativity“.
