Book Synopsis The New Testament Devotional Commentary, Volume 2 by : Bo Giertz
Download or read book The New Testament Devotional Commentary, Volume 2 written by Bo Giertz and published by New Reformation Publications. This book was released on 2022-08-09 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bo Giertz wrote these commentaries in retirement after a lifetime of studying the Greek New Testament. These accompanied his own translations of the New Testament. This volume covers the Gospel of John through to Second Corinthians. Many have previously enjoyed Giertz's Romans commentary that is also included here, and they will not be disappointed with his treatment of the other texts. Giertz' s views were heavily shaped by his mentor Anton Fridrichsen who wanted to counter both the liberalism of men like his friend Rudolph Bultmann, and the neo-orthodoxy of Karl Barth with Biblical Realism. Biblical Realism sought to avoid the pitfalls of biblicism by allowing for academic freedom while studying scriptures, while also maintaining that the events of the Bible were true events that happened in our history all centered upon the death and resurrection of Christ. The scriptures are therefore a salvation history meant to "declare to you a message by which you will be saved, you and your household" (Acts 11:14).
Book Synopsis The New Testament Devotional Commentary, Volume 1 by : Bo Giertz
Download or read book The New Testament Devotional Commentary, Volume 1 written by Bo Giertz and published by New Reformation Publications. This book was released on 2021-11-16 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bo Giertz was a serious biblical scholar who avoided the ivory tower. He studied classics in undergrad before taking up theology in preparation for the ministry. In 1930 he spent time on an archeological dig in Palestine and travelled the country with his exegetical professor Anton Fridrichsen who insisted on "Biblical Realism," which avoided fundamentalism and yet refused to succumb to higher criticism. In these commentaries, Bo Giertz takes what he learned from a lifetime of such study and application in in sermons and visits with people to open Scripture to anyone who wants to grow in their faith. He never avoids the hard questions concerning the texts, and yet tackles them in such a way as to restore confidence in God's word. Here, he is concerned with what the text meant to those who first wrote it and heard it so he can deliver the same goods to us today.
Book Synopsis Exploring Ephesians a Devotional Commentary by : Ashley Day
Download or read book Exploring Ephesians a Devotional Commentary written by Ashley Day and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-02-08 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the year AD 62, the Apostle Paul was a prisoner in Rome. He had been arrested in Jerusalem on a false charge of taking Greeks into the temple. Knowing he would not receive a fair trial in Jerusalem, he had exercised his right as a Roman citizen and appealed to Caesar. Eventually, after many adventures, he arrived in Rome and awaited his hearing before Nero. During this waiting period he wrote four marvelous letters, letters which have enriched the lives of countless people down through the centuries. All four letters were recognized by the Fathers as inspired by God and were incorporated in the Scriptures. This book concentrates on Paul's letter to the Ephesians. The original recipients have long since left this world, but Gods Word is still alive and we shall examine the letter verse-by-verse, with a view to understanding what God is saying to us today.
Book Synopsis Jeremiah, a Devotional Commentary by : Tom Birch
Download or read book Jeremiah, a Devotional Commentary written by Tom Birch and published by Word Alive Press. This book was released on 2020-01-15 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nobody wants to be Jeremiah, who lived through God’s judgement on his culture. But looking at our own culture today, we may have more in common with Jeremiah than we’d like. How do we stand for righteousness and still relate to an ungodly world? In the stories of Jeremiah’s life and times, we see God’s reckless love and offer of forgiveness. They are stories of hope for our day and encouragement for our lives. Jeremiah survived attacks on his life. He endured war and famine. He stood against kings who would have killed him. He suffered depression, but in spite of it, he thrived and found his satisfaction in the living God. He was a tutor to kings and prophets. He was a messenger for God. He was a friend to any who would accept him. Jeremiah is both a powerful inspiration and a gentle encouragement that God’s plan for us is to give us a hope and a future, regardless of our past.
