Book excerpt: This review examines the effectiveness of the World Bank's strategy to facilitate the sharing of development knowledge and information with client countries, as well as the institutional infrastructure put in place to implement it (including resources, governance and technology). Findings include that the Bank has made good progress in establishing the tools and activities to support its initiative, but it has not established adequate business processes and management responsibilities. The review recommends that the Bank take three sets of actions regarding: the need for greater strategic direction and oversight of the Bank's knowledge processes; linking knowledge-sharing activities to lending and non-lending processes; and setting outcome objectives and supporting programme performance indicators in accordance with agreed monitoring and evaluation procedures.
Book Synopsis The Power of Education by : Colin Power
Download or read book The Power of Education written by Colin Power and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-23 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the power of education: the kind of education that simultaneously improves the quality of life both of individuals and the wider society. It explains why education must be viewed as a basic human right, as a value in and of itself, and reviews the evidence on how education builds the human resources that individuals and nations need to be productive, to continue to learn, to solve problems, to be creative, and to live together and with nature in peace and harmony. When nations ensure that such an education is accessible to all throughout their lives, education becomes the engine of sustainable development – economic, social, moral and cultural. The book is unique in that it covers the development of education at all levels in all countries of the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, using the latest international data bases, while blending in analyses of both quantitate and qualitative research.

Book Synopsis Status of Implementation of e-Agriculture in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia by : Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
Download or read book Status of Implementation of e-Agriculture in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2018-07-23 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agriculture is becoming increasingly knowledge intensive: farmers have to make more and more complex decisions on the use of their land, the selection of the agricultural commodities they plant, the choice of markets on which to sell their agricultural products and other key decisions that impact their livelihoods and that of society. The development of ICTs is a major driver of economic growth. It is also an accelerator for innovation and change. FAO has been promoting the use of ICTs in agriculture and has focused on ICT innovation in improving agricultural production and value chains. However, innovation is an elusive combination of people, processes and technologies. Many projects put technology alone at the core of proposed solutions intended to address emerging and existing challenges, but this is not a sustainable solution in many cases. Recently, FAO and the International Telecommunication Union, have jointly prepared a National e-Agriculture Strategy Guide which aims to help countries mainstream ICTs into agriculture and develop or revitalize e-agriculture strategies in line with agricultural goals and priorities. This paper is intended to assist policy-makers and stakeholders of e-agriculture in transition economies to map the policy and technological environment in their countries, would show case e-agriculture initiatives in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia and provide with recommendations on formulation of e-agriculture strategies.
