Book Synopsis Atmosphere-ocean Modeling: Coupling And Couplers by : Carlos Roberto Mechoso
Download or read book Atmosphere-ocean Modeling: Coupling And Couplers written by Carlos Roberto Mechoso and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-07-27 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coupled atmosphere-ocean models are at the core of numerical climate models. There is an extraordinarily broad class of coupled atmosphere-ocean models ranging from sets of equations that can be solved analytically to highly detailed representations of Nature requiring the most advanced computers for execution. The models are applied to subjects including the conceptual understanding of Earth's climate, predictions that support human activities in a variable climate, and projections aimed to prepare society for climate change. The present book fills a void in the current literature by presenting a basic and yet rigorous treatment of how the models of the atmosphere and the ocean are put together into a coupled system. The text of the book is divided into chapters organized according to complexity of the components that are coupled. Two full chapters are dedicated to current efforts on the development of generalist couplers and coupling methodologies all over the world.

This book was released on 2005-02-14 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents approaches and methodologies for predicting the structure and diversity of key aquatic communities (namely, diatoms, benthic macroinvertebrates and fish), under natural conditions and under man-made disturbance. The intent is to offer an organized means for modeling, evaluating and restoring freshwater ecosystems.
Book Synopsis Computer Techniques in Environmental Studies by : Paolo Zannetti
Download or read book Computer Techniques in Environmental Studies written by Paolo Zannetti and published by Springer. This book was released on 1988-10-12 with total page 798 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This was the second ENVIROSOFT conference, an international meeting dealing with the development and application of computer techniques to environmental problems. The goal is to allow cross-fertilization among those scientists who are involved in different disciplines but possess two things in commmon: 1) they study environmental phenomena, and 2) they use software as a tool. The major goal of this conference was to bring these two disciplines a little closer.

Book Synopsis Viscous Flow Applications by : Carlos A. Brebbia
Download or read book Viscous Flow Applications written by Carlos A. Brebbia and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-12 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Boundary Element Method has now become a powerful tool of engineering analysis and is routinely applied for the solution of elastostatics and potential problems. More recently research has concentrated on solving a large variety of non-linear and time dependent applications and in particular the method has been developed for viscous fluid flow problems. This book presents the state of the art on the solution of viscous flow using boundary elements and discusses different current approaches which have been validated by numerical experiments. . Chapter 1 of the book presents a brief review of previous work on viscous flow simulation and in particular gives an up-to-date list of the most important BEM references in the field. Chapter 2 reviews the governing equations for general viscous flow, including compressibility. The authors present a compre hensive treatment of the different cases and their formulation in terms of boundary integral equations. This work has been the result of collaboration between Computational Mechanics Institute of Southampton and Massa chusetts Institute of Technology researchers. Chapter 3 describes the gen eralized formulation for unsteady viscous flow problems developed over many years at Georgia Institute of Technology. This formulation has been extensively applied to solve aer09ynamic problems.

Book Synopsis Landslide Hazard in a Changing Environment by : Davide Tiranti
Download or read book Landslide Hazard in a Changing Environment written by Davide Tiranti and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2019-04-03 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Landslides are one of the most dangerous geomorphological processes, responsible for losses of human lives and damages to structures, infrastructures, cultural and natural heritage. During the Anthropocene, impacts of human activity on the environment, including recent climate changes, have caused deep alterations to the natural evolution of surficial geologic processes, causing a progressive increase in in the occurrence of landslides. The goal of this Research Topic is to provide an updated overview of the progress in the field of landslide research, covering all the aspects related to the geological event: geomorphological characterization and understanding of triggering and predisposing factors, new technologies applied to the study of evolution of slope phenomena, new methodologies to foresee and mitigate landslide hazards.
