Book Synopsis Copyright and Multimedia by : Julian Rodriguez Pardo
Download or read book Copyright and Multimedia written by Julian Rodriguez Pardo and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technology has affected a wide range of issues in our personal and professional lives. And in doing so it has opened the door for new legal questions, especially with regard to intellectual property and, more specifically, copyright. New legal questions have arisen with respect to the authorship of web pages, databases, computer programs, and, in general, multimedia work. Is this technology internationally protected? Can internet piracy be considered piracy? To whom does the copyright belong when more than one author exists? When is it necessary to resort to technical protection devices? By examining international laws, such as the WIPO treaties and EU law, this book offers a clear answer to these questions while focusing on how copyright does or does not protect new technology. It also examines alternative ways of protecting technologies that present the real possibility of appealing to patent and trademark law as well as an overview of the multimedia concept and the origins of copyright. This book's simple structure helps the reader to understand how to utilize current laws to protect one's work and offers an interesting and informative analysis of the subject.

The volume contains mainly English as well as French and Spanish contributions.
Book Synopsis Protection of Traditional Cultural Expressions in Latin America by : Anna Friederike Busch
Download or read book Protection of Traditional Cultural Expressions in Latin America written by Anna Friederike Busch and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-05-19 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses the topic of protecting traditional cultural expressions (TCEs) in Latin America. It questions classic legal approaches and involves the interface of anthropology and law. The study analyses regional, national and local particularities of law on paper and law in reality. It includes personal fieldwork research in selected countries and puts light on the political, socio-economic and environmental dimension of the topic. Based upon these insights, the study gives recommendations for a more enhanced, interdisciplinary understanding and protection of TCEs. Latin America is (still) rich of cultural traditions and bio- and sociodiversity. This region is the cradle of the international discussion on protecting TCEs. The national situations are diverse and allow conclusive comparisons. Some countries have established concrete protection systems, like Panama, and made useful experiences. It is time to resume: What do TCEs really mean? Should they be protected by law and if so, how? What can we learn from the practical experiences made so far? The following is clear: The true test for any new legislation – in Latin America and elsewhere – is its impact on the everyday life.

Book Synopsis The social construction of culture markets by : Jordi López-Sintas
Download or read book The social construction of culture markets written by Jordi López-Sintas and published by OmniaScience. This book was released on 2016-01-11 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The social media and the proliferation of mobile and home electronic devices have led to dramatic changes in how consumers access cultural expressions (whether via purchase or sharing) and the way firms select, (re)produce and market cultural expressions. Technological innovation has driven changes that have profound implications for our society. The printing press converted manuscripts into tradeable goods and the gramophone did the same for musical performances. Both also introduced intermediaries into the market, namely, the publisher and the record label, who acquired sufficient power to influence governments and legislation regulating intellectual rights. In a similar way, the Internet and the digital technologies that ride on this highway have paved the way for yet another dramatic change. However, the balance of power has now shifted towards creators and consumers, who, as they socially construct the market for cultural expressions, are also reshaping legislative and economic aspects of the intellectual property regime. This book addresses questions of access to cultural expressions, the historical evolution of authors’ rights, the current Spanish intellectual property regime and the social construction of music markets. It also proposes a contextual theory regarding access to music and a social interpretation of music access patterns. It concludes with a discussion of the issues raised in the previous chapters, focusing particularly on the core issues of access to culture, incentives to creativity and the selection, (re)production and marketing of cultural expressions. The separation of the rights of creators and the rights of producers is suggested as a way to enhance incentives to creation while improving access to cultural expressions. This book will be of particular interest to social science researchers seeking interdisciplinary insights into the social construction of markets from the economics, management, marketing, law and sociology perspectives.

Download or read book Artificial intelligence and human rights. written by Rubén Miranda Gonçalves and published by Dykinson. This book was released on 2021-12-14 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are publishing this book as the result of a research project carried out by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in Spain and AFM Krakow University in Poland. Some parts of it were already announced during a scientific Conference organised remotely in Kraków in October 2020. It is now time to present the research findings in writing. The issue of Artificial Intelligence has long raised questions and interests, including those of legal science. A number of problems have not yet been widely analysed, despite the fact that the present time is undoubtedly a time of technological challenges. Therefore, in the presented publication, prepared by the international scientific community, under our scientific guidance, the authors try to analyse the areas which, in their opinion and in our opinion, required such analysis. The leitmotif of our scientific work was human rights and their relationship with Artificial Intelligence. In presenting the research results in this book, we realise that a number of issues still need to be clarified. Nevertheless, we hope that the work presented for the reader’s consideration will constitute an interesting voice in the discussion, a point of reference for all those dealing with the legal issues of new technologies and the protection of human rights. As the presented book is a collective work, the authors essentially present their own views. The whole work has been designed to address a broad spectrum of issues in Artificial Intelligence and human rights in a single collection. We are convinced that such a broad view will allow everyone interested in the discussed issues to see the essence of contemporary problems faced by the science of law in a multinational perspective. We encourage everyone to read the book!Laura Miraut MartínMariusz Zalucki

Book excerpt: The "Europeanization" of European private law has recently received much scrutiny and attention. Harmonizing European systems of law represents one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century. In effect, it is the adaptation of national laws into a new supra-national law, a process that signifies the beginning of a new age in Europe. This volume seeks to frame the creation of a new European Common Law in the context of recent events in European integration.Engaged in timely and cutting edge research, the authors cast into fine relief the building of a European Common Law. The work is envisioned as a guide and written in a research friendly style that includes text inserts and an extensive bibliography. In particular, this book seeks to orient lawmakers, as well as those individuals interested in EU law, in the intricacies of consumer protection, contractual law, timesharing, and other important aspects in the harmonization of domestic and EU law books. The detailed analysis and research this volume accomplishes is invaluable to those scholars and lawmakers who are the next generation of European leaders.
