Das entstandene Machtvakuum füllte der ehemalige Ministerpräsident Mahmud Abbas nach der demokratischen Wahl zum Nachfolger Arafats am 9. Januar 2005 aus und erweckte die Friedensgespräche zu neuem Leben. Das vorliegende Buch betrachtet Israel nach 1967 und legt einen Schwerpunkt auf die Entwicklung der Friedensbemühungen seit Beginn der I. Intifada 1987. Die geschichtlichen Hintergründe der zionistischen Bewegung und die historischen Fakten über die Entstehung des Staates Israel werden aus diesem Grund als allgemein bekannt betrachtet und nicht näher behandelt. Das Ausstrahlen des Israelisch-Palästinensischen Konfliktes auf die Nachbarländer bzw. die Problematik Israels und der arabischen Welt soll nur in Ansätzen beschrieben werden, da ansonsten der Rahmen dieser Hausarbeit gesprengt werden würde.
