Download or read book Depth written by Melissa Zinkin and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2024-09-30 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is striking that, although philosophers have theories about the values of truth, goodness and beauty, they do not provide an account of the value of "depth," which is also frequently referred to in our everyday evaluative discourse. In Depth, Melissa Zinkin provides one of the few philosophical accounts of depth. Moreover, she does this through a new interpretation of the philosophy of Immanuel Kant. By showing that Kant was in fact arguing for this unique and important value, Zinkin shows how Kant is still relevant to contemporary philosophical discussions of value. Indeed, Kant's philosophy has much to offer anyone today who is critical of superficial or shallow thinking.

Download or read book Depth Effects written by Brooke Belisle and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2024 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this bold rewriting of visual culture, Brooke Belisle uses dimensionality to rethink the history and theory of media aesthetics. With Depth Effects, she traces A.I.-enabled techniques of computational imaging back to spatial strategies of early photography, analyzing everyday smartphone apps by way of almost-forgotten media forms. Drawing on the work of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Belisle explores depth both as a problem of visual representation (how can flat images depict a voluminous world?) and as a philosophical paradox (how do things cohere beyond the limits of our view?). She explains how today's depth effects continue colonialist ambitions toward totalizing ways of seeing. But she also shows how artists stage dimensionality to articulate what remains invisible and irreducible.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Theory and Applications of Models of Computation, TAMC 2011, held in Tokyo, Japan, in May 2011. The 51 revised full papers presented together with the abstracts of 2 invited talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 136 submissions. The papers address the three main themes of the conference which were computability, complexity, and algorithms and are organized in topical sections on general algorithms, approximation, graph algorithms, complexity, optimization, circuit complexity, data structures, logic and formal language theory, games and learning theory, and cryptography and communication complexity.
Book Synopsis Time-of-Flight and Depth Imaging. Sensors, Algorithms and Applications by : Marcin Grzegorzek
Download or read book Time-of-Flight and Depth Imaging. Sensors, Algorithms and Applications written by Marcin Grzegorzek and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-09 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cameras for 3D depth imaging, using either time-of-flight (ToF) or structured light sensors, have received a lot of attention recently and have been improved considerably over the last few years. The present techniques make full-range 3D data available at video frame rates, and thus pave the way for a much broader application of 3D vision systems. A series of workshops have closely followed the developments within ToF imaging over the years. Today, depth imaging workshops can be found at every major computer vision conference. The papers presented in this volume stem from a seminar on Time-of-Flight Imaging held at Schloss Dagstuhl in October 2012. They cover all aspects of ToF depth imaging, from sensors and basic foundations, to algorithms for low level processing, to important applications that exploit depth imaging. In addition, this book contains the proceedings of a workshop on Imaging New Modalities, which was held at the German Conference on Pattern Recognition in Saarbrücken, Germany, in September 2013. A state-of-the-art report on the Kinect sensor and its applications is followed by two reports on local and global ToF motion compensation and a novel depth capture system using a plenoptic multi-lens multi-focus camera sensor.
