Book Synopsis Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES). Manpower, Personnel, and Training Implications by :
Download or read book Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES). Manpower, Personnel, and Training Implications written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The average age of a typical Navy shipboard network is about seven years. These networks and the systems and applications that reside on them are an amalgam of disparate hardware and operating software that were developed and introduced onboard largely independent from one another. The Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) initiative is designed to consolidate and improve the networks on tactical platforms, largely through a common computing environment. The Navy Program Executive Officer for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (PEO C4I) asked the RAND National Defense Research Institute to assess broadly the manpower, personnel, and training implications associated with the introduction of CANES on naval ships. The research identified the implications of the conversion from current systems to understand the impact on the numbers and types of personnel needed and on overall training demands. This report describes the results of this research. It should be of interest to those involved in the analysis and policy planning for fleet manpower determination, personnel management, and training management. This research was sponsored by the Navy PEO C4I and conducted within the Forces and Resources Policy Center of the RAND National Defense Research Institute, a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Staff, the Unified Combatant Commands, the Navy, the Marine Corps, the defense agencies, and the defense Intelligence Community.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arleigh Burke is considered the father of the modern U.S. Navy to many. Sea warrior, strategist, and unparalleled service leader, Burke had an impact on the course of naval warfare that is still felt today. This biography by noted historian E.B. Potter follows Burke's distinguished career from his early days at the Naval Academy through the dramatic destroyer operations in the Solomons, where he earned his nickname "31-Knot Burke," to his participation in the crucial carrier operations of World War II. The author also fully examines Burke's postwar service as a United Nations delegate to the Korean truce talks and his unprecedented six-year tenure as chief of naval operations from 1955 to 1961, where he was a strong advocate of carrier aviation, nuclear propulsion, and a major force in developing the Navy's Polaris missile program. Awarded the Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor, in 1977, he became the first living U.S. naval officer to have a class of ship named after him--the Arleigh Burke guided missile destroyers. Now available in paperback for the first time, this definitive 1990 biography is a worthy tribute to a great naval hero.

Download or read book Real Time Analysis written by U. S. Military and published by . This book was released on 2018-05-12 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: U.S. Navy Information Dominance (ID) continues to rely on the collection of as much information as possible from the electromagnetic and cyber domains to conduct operations. However, with the increase in organic sensor data along with access to information that was currently outside Navy channels, data overload threatens the ability of the Navy to perform real time analysis. In the past three years the Navy ID community has chartered multiple roadmaps and vision documents nested within national policy to lead the way for decision superiority based on the information collected in the electromagnetic and cyber domains. As the Navy ID strategies begin to unfold into physical tasking the Navy needs to ensure the ID organization is aligned correctly to assist with the analysis of information gathered, innovation of the organization and leveraging the right commercial technology. With the military services operating under austere budgetary constraints and the rise of nefarious state and non-state actors acquiring low cost threat weapons, Navy ID has no room for failure. Navy ID needs to ensure they have constant home field advantage with their capabilities while operating forward from the sea.
