Book Synopsis Southern Hunting in Black and White by : Stuart A. Marks
Download or read book Southern Hunting in Black and White written by Stuart A. Marks and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2021-03-09 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many Southern men living in or close to rural landscapes, hunting is a passion. But it is not a timeless activity in a cultural void. Whether pursuers of fox or raccoon, deer or rabbits, quail or dove, Southern hunters reveal for Stuart Marks complex patterns of male bonding, social status, and relationships with nature. Marks, who has written two outstanding books on hunting in Africa, was born and has long lived in the South. Examining Southern hunting from frontier times through the antebellum era to the present day, he shows it to be a litmus test of rural identity. "Drawing on the latest anthropological theory, statistical sources, extensive interviews, and historical research, [Marks] has crafted a multifaceted account of Southern hunting. Relations of race, property, gender, and region appear in fresh guises in this innovative and intriguing study. The portrayal of the contemporary state of hunting is especially interesting, revealing both the continuities with the past and the new pressures on the sport."--Virginia Quarterly Review
Download or read book Trophy Buck written by Elby Dubose and published by . This book was released on 2005-08-01 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have read so many books about hunting, but most of them are about Canada and Michigan or somewhere up North where it snows most of deer season.. So I have kept records for the last 35 years. About hunting without the big money or being a Blue blood and left thousands of acres of land. So, I have thought that I should turn my notes into a book and tell it like it is," The Truth." My friend Joey Tisdale and Scottie Burroughs have hunted together forever. They have seen me hunt and they had hunted with others before and they even questioned my way. I would have 60 acres that I went door to door asking for permission to hunt, 40 acres, 20 acres and so on. So, I had to learn fast and learn my way that this year I would have a place to hunt for the next year or I might not. So, I had to learn quick and with the lack of money and my own land or land from year to year. Thus, my book DOING IT THE HARD WAY is for those that don't hunt because of these reasons. That's what my book explains. Don't ever give up, you can do it even if you don't have a lot of money. Be in the woods, enjoy the peace and quiet and solitude, even if you don't get him this time. You've enjoyed mother nature and she's quite a lady. "The statement of my book" is true and the best way I know to get that Trophy Buck is to do what I have explained in the book. It has been tried and tested for 35 years. You be the Judge. This book is about hunting South Carolina and that's hard without big money. God Bless Us All and the U. S. A.

Hunting Island's importance to Beaufort and the nation has always stemmed from its use as a recreational area. From the rice planters, who took their families here on week-long excursions to hunt and fish, to present-day naturalists, campers, and beachgoers, Hunting Island's unique ecology, terrain, and wildlife have always been enjoyed and valued on an international level. Through the eyes of photographers a century ago, the story of the island unfolds. Readers visit early planters, and meet shrimpers who spread their nets in the shoaled waters surrounding the island. We travel though marshes brimming with life and enjoy moments of solitude along quiet sandy beaches.
